Agreed. Only cost a 5th and swapping a 5th for a 6th. That's good by me, cause he wasn't falling to our pick.
I had a sneaky suspicion we were gonna go LB. Hicks has a ton of talent, just has to stay healthy. Obviously was a big time recruit coming out of HS.
Some guys I'm liking on this last day WR - Tre McBride WR - Justin Hardy WR - Rashad Greene WR - Darren Waller OL - TJ Clemmings OL - Jarvis Harrison DE/LB - Trey Flowers DE/LB - Anthony Chickillo DE/LB - Shaq Riddick OLB - Alani Fua
Loading up on secondary in the 6th JaCorey Shepherd (Kansas) at 191 Randall Evans (Kansas State) at 196
Like this Devante Davis kid they signed as an UDFA. He's got some great size. Should definitely be able to push for a roster spot considering the lack of real experience we have at WR.
Kyle Arrington was released by New England. Probably a decent chance he ends up back there on a cheaper deal but I wouldn't mind exploring. He did have a quick stint with Philly as an UDFA out of college.
The Eagles have announced the hiring of Dwayne Joseph as the team's director of pro personnel. Joseph was most recently the associate director of pro personnel with the Chicago Bears. Joseph, 42, began his NFL career as a cornerback for the Chicago Bears, appearing in 16 games, starting one, in the 1995 season. After his playing career, Joseph earned his master's degree in education leadership from DePaul University. He previously earned his undergraduate degree from Syracuse in human development. Joseph joined the Bears football operations department in 1998, spending three seasons as coordinator of player programs and then three years as diretor of player development. From there, Joseph spent eight years (2004-2011) with the Miami Dolphins, serving primarily as a pro scout. Joseph then rejoined the Bears in 2012 as assistant director of pro scouting before he was promoted to his most recent title. A native of Miami, Joseph is married with two sons.
Eagles released LG Evan Mathis. This has been a long time coming for Mathis, who quickly wore out his welcome under my-way-or-the-highway coach Chip Kelly. Mathis had been skipping voluntary workouts the past couple seasons in hopes of a trade or raise from the Eagles. Due a $5.5 million salary this season, Mathis wanted more entering his age-34 season. Now hitting the market at this stage of the year, Mathis would do well to make half that in 2015. The Dolphins, Patriots, and Rams have all reportedly expressed some level of interest in Mathis at times over the previous couple months. When on the field, Mathis is still one of the best guards in the league. Sucks to get nothing for him.
Peters - Barbre - Kelce - Tobin - Johnson I know the team loves Barbre and thinks he is underrated. Going to need Tobin to step up. Would be nice because he's only 25 so he could stick around a while if he can develop.
We all knew it was coming, but still sucks :( Steelers acquired CB Brandon Boykin from the Eagles in exchange for a 2016 fifth-round pick. One of the top slot corners in the league, Boykin is an immediate upgrade to a Pittsburgh secondary that ranked 27th against the pass last year. Boykin was undervalued by Chip Kelly for his lack of size, but still graded as a top-25 corner by PFF over 524 snaps last season. He's essentially a one-year rental for the Steelers. Boykin is owed $1.542 million in the final year of his contract. He turned 25 early last month.
Hey guys. Can I be an Eagles fan or is this a bad time? I don't have an NFL team that I cheer for. Live in Oklahoma. I have several interests on the team: Bradford, Murray, and L. Johnson + my eternal desire to watch the Cowboys fail.
I know, it's a risk, but I am confident that won't be an issue if he stays upright. He ran a similar offense at OU and had a lot of similar weapons. Demarco has great hands so should excel in the offense as well. My fear about Demarco is now that he's been paid he may be like he was in college. He would dominate all season then magically have an injury and never played in a bowl game. He also would go down on first contact, every time ever. However, he hasn't acted like that in the pros so hopefully this paycheck doesn't change that because he's a stud when he wants to be. Sucks about losing Evan Mathis. Dude was a very good Guard.
Tim Tebow: Monday Reps: 17 reps Monday Stats: 11/14 Overall Stats: 31 reps, 20/26, 0 TD, 0 INT Analysis: Tebow was much better on Monday than he was on Sunday, hitting 11 of his 14 passes and taking more reps than Barkley. Tebow's issue on Sunday was his accuracy, and although he had as many incompletions on Monday, he was able to fit the ball into some tight windows. On one throw, he squeezed the ball between two defenders and put it where only his receiver could catch it, getting a first down for the offense. Tebow also showed off his athleticism, taking off on one play for what would have been a 15-yard gain.
It's weird. Growing up in OK most people chose Cowboys, Chiefs, or Broncos. I never settled on a team, but I always find it most amusing watching the Cowboys fail after the last Switzer championship.
Jeff McLane ✔ @Jeff_McLane #Eagles OLB Travis Long tore his left ACL again. He's done for the season, sources said. Man up, Marcus Smith
According to Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, Alonso suffered a concussion during the team's Tuesday practice at Lincoln Financial Field. It's unclear exactly when the injury occurred because Alonso didn't leave practice early. Alonso now won't be able to return to practice until he passes through the NFL's mandatory concussion protocol. In the meantime, DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks will likely take the bulk of first team reps at inside linebacker.
Speaking with the media after a training camp practice, Jason Peters revealed he's gone on a diet this offseason to lose weight. He's cut out ice cream and other sweets. He's also been riding a bike around Philadelphia on a regular basis. These efforts have helped Peters drop from 345, his usual training camp weight, down to 320. Inspiration for Peters' weight loss came from dissatisfaction with his performance last season. Via Joe Santoliquito of CBS Philly: "I started slacking at the end of the year I must say," Peters admitted. "The last three games I gave up some sacks that I usually don’t give up. I look back on it and I wasn’t pleased, I came into this year working on trying to fix that. "When I look back at my last three or four games, I look back and know I have to do better than that; that I’m able to do better than that. It’s why I started training earlier, more than the last few years. I was upset late last year. I wanted to come back than I was last year. I’m getting older. I want to win a Super Bowl. Every year you want to make the playoffs and go farther than what you did the previous year. We lost to the Cowboys and they knocked us out of the playoffs, and that was tough. I was upset. Losing to Dallas got me to a little bit. I carried that around for a while."
Marcus Smith notes... "I went to [former NFL defensive end] Chuck Smith this offseason and I went to him and we did pass rush moves and different stuff to get me acclimated to how the NFL is," Smith said. " I think that’s what got me better." The 23-year-old also changed his body by adding muscle and lowering his body fat percentage from 18 to 15. "I put on 10 pounds," said Smith. "At first, I was 265. When I came back out here I went down to 260 because of all the practicing and stuff. So I’ll probably play during the season at 260, 255, or around that weight." Smith went on to explain why bulking up was so important to him and his game. "I just think it was strength and ability to knock the tackle back because in this league tackles are just as fast as you are so you have to be able to knock them back to be able to get to the quarterback so you can set your speed moves." Another factor working in Smith's favor is that he's no longer a rookie learning the scheme. He's also no longer being bounced between outside and inside linebacker. The Eagles have Smith exclusively working on the outside. "I would say 100 times more comfortable than I was last year," said Smith. "Being athletic is all well and good but once you get the technique down and all that stuff, you become a better outside linebacker. You can’t just be an athletic person in this league. You have to have great technique."
Stanford grad thinks Kiko had a concussion? hmmmm. Kiko is just retarded and barely literate - i'm sure his brain is "fine"
Eagles rookie CB JaCorey Shepherd will undergo an MRI on his knee on Monday. Per the Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen, it's believed Shepherd's MRI is being performed to see if his ACL was torn in Sunday's practice. The Eagles had penciled in Shepherd as their slot corner after trading away Brandon Boykins, so this loss would be a substantial blow. With Shepherd out of Sunday's practice, the Eagles turned to S/CB Jaylen Watkins to practice in the slot. Would really suck considering how much the coaches have been talking him up so far.
Looking pretty solid in the 1st half today against Indy. It's obviously the first preseason game, but liked what I saw from the secondary. Some really nice plays being made. Good to see Rowe in on two forced fumbles. EJ Biggers had a couple solid plays and Prosinski and Maragos were in on some plays on the defense. Marcus Smith made a couple nice plays and looks much bigger now. The starting 3-man front was excellent against the Colts first team offense. Liking what I see from Agholor. Clearly has some really nice breakaway speed and has a really nice feel after the catch. Had a couple drops, one of them really easy, but overall I am happy. Matthews just looks like he is going to be really productive this year. I think our future at WR looks very promising. The special teams game is looking like it is picking up where they left off. Great effort by Barner at the end of the half to score that long TD on the punt return. Barkley looking surprisingly good outside of the tipped pass that got intercepted. I guess the only real negative on the day so far would be that Sanchez looked terrible.
Not the best news considering he could use as much time on the field as possible, but hopefully will be ready for Week 1 Eagles OLB Marcus Smith is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a strained hamstring.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Jordan Matthews was "the best player on the field" at this week's Ravens-Eagles joint practices. Keep in mind Matthews was facing a revamped Ravens secondary that got back shutdown corner Jimmy Smith from last year's foot injury, and added stingy slot CB Kyle Arrington in free agency. This news is also coming from Baltimore; not Philadelphia. Ravens beat writer Jeff Zriebec writes, "Ravens defensive backs will be seeing (Matthews) in their sleep over the next couple of days." Zriebec added "Nobody on the Ravens has been able to match up," and "if Matthews stays healthy, I'd be shocked if he didn't have a big year."
let's hope tonights debut goes as well as the last time a guy made his preseason debut against the Ravens. also, hope for a better ending.
We look really fucking solid. The defense has looked vastly improved. I think they could really surprise some people if these first two games are any indication. Should Demarco and Mathews stay healthy then we should have a ridiculous run game. Fuck, Kenjon Barner is making his case for punt returner.
That was a fucked up play, ESPECIALLY in the preseason. Regular season, to me, no big deal -- they wanna run the read option, the QB is open game as long as he is carrying out his fake. And what better way to set the tone than to clock the QB. But in game 2 of the preseason, nah.
