The winner of this jackpot will net, after taxes, roughly half of the combined estimated family income of all of Laurens County, SC from last year.
the median income of gray court is $31,000. the town has 800 people. this winner is going to be at least ten times richer than the entire town combined
Oh shit, my grandma lives in Gray Court and my dad is actually down there taking care of her right now.
A friend of mine is saying he heard it was won by the wait staff at a Charleston restaurant. No idea how he would know that though.
why would their tickets be purchased from a town across the state? a good friend of mine is a waiter at a nice charleston restaurant so hoping this is true
Theres a giant ZF Transmissions plant out that way. Could have been a ticket in giant pool from there or something.
The restaurant he said was My Uncle's Moustache or something like that. This friend has no connection to Charleston though and is often the "I've got a scoop" guy even though he truly doesn't.
The ticket was sold at the KC Mart #7 at 303 Lee Vaughn Rd. in Simpsonville, lottery officials announced Wednesday morning.
I’ve said this multiple times, but we’ve infested your lands for decades now. We liked the taste and wanted more. Your bloodlines are our bloodlines. You are part of Ohio now. We are are one.
at the amount of press / attention / nagging this person is going to receive.... Seriously - would you rather win this jackpot ($500 million - ish) publicly or just wake up tomorrow and have a cool $5 million deposited in your bank account (low-key, nobody knows but you)?
Clemson rivals board says the winner works at ZF Edit: sounds like people at zf know who it is and a name is leaking.
SC allows you to claim anonymously so as long as the winner is smart enough to be discreet and hire an estate planning lawyer and create a trust to claim the money he should be able to stay relatively anonymous. Although it appears the person is not that smart because they are from rural upstate SC.
I already have a guy to handle all of this if I were to win. Unfortunately I wont be calling him today.
$500,000,000 publically 100 times out of 100. Not even a question. It would suck to have people coming at you all the time but the difference in those numbers is monumental.
Plus that's only around where you live. You can go 40 miles away from home and no one is going to know who you are. Its not like youre a celeb and will be recognized every where you go.
Yeah when I’m spending half my year in Colorado, Cali and other parts of the US doubt anyone will know who I am
The idea of someone in Simpsonville, SC getting half a billion dollars makes me chuckle. That's going to be a shit show.
I get it - The numbers I used are probably too far to the extreme. However, I think some people are overlooking the (documented) torment of being a non-anonymous lottery winner.... Just one example: You’re now SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to be the victim of: Drug overdose Bankruptcy Kidnapping Convicted of drunk driving A defendant in a civil lawsuit A defendant in a felony criminal proceeding Homicide (20x more likely than average) Homicide at the hands of a family member (120x more likely than average) Source: https://www.telapost.com/powerball-danger/
I would give a shit ton away. Like a couple hundred million. I’d be like Oprah handing out free shit to her audience. Who wants a millions? You get a million, you get a million and you get a million!
bought a couple power ball tickets tonight and was able to avoid getting hit again so don’t let me get hot
store owner stands to get $50k so he isn’t happy. 4 months later, mystery and rumors surround Mega Millions unclaimed $1.5 billion jackpot https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...millions-unclaimed-lottery-ticket/2963048002/
Maybe he/she still getting things organized. Apparently SC allows you to remain anonymous if you deposit it into a Trust.
Also, the state government had already built the 61 million tax into the budget, so if he doesn't pop up to claim it, the budget will be short 61 million.
