first listen through: extremely good as usual. "winding stair mountain blues" and i love "oklahoma stars" and "pay no rent" too.
Is there an emotional state when you get your best writing done? Evan Felker: Anxiety is a good one, to be honest, because there are so many scattered thoughts. Sadness is one that leads to a lot of output. During the record we just finished, a good friend of mine passed away. I called a mutual friend, John Fullbright, and he came over. One of my favorite songs is Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," and we worked out a rendition to play at the funeral. Then we found out later than almost everyone else was working up a rendition of the same song. So the day before the funeral, we started at noon and wrote from scratch. That song is on the new record and it's called "Pay No Rent."
Randy Rogers has an album coming out produced by Dave Cobb. Hopefully it won't be as poppy as his last few releases. As a side note, it's amazing how much Kentucky has taken over the country scene. I feel like Texas has largely been left by the wayside
Speaking if Kentucky, I’ve had chris knight pretty heavy on the playlist. And gave Cody Jinks another shot, not sure why didn’t care for his stuff when I first listened to it but there isn’t a bad song on the adobe sessions
Brandon Jenkins is in "extremely critical" condition after complications during a heart surgery. He found out he had developed a heart condition and underwent surgery to put in a new heart valve. So sad
Terrible update today, Brandon didn't make it. Can't find many details but I'm seeing it floating around
anyone going to see Turnpike Troubadours at Red Rocks (june 13th)? I have them and Jason Isbell on Labor Day on the docket. its going to be a good summer.
Bingham’s in the studio, hopefully getting a new album this year. Jason Boland’s new record comes out in May. First song: https://www.rollingstone.com/countr...i-dont-deserve-you-with-sunny-sweeney-w518750
Also, not Red Dirt specifically, but most of y'all in here would like the new Sarah Shook and the Disarmers record that came out last week.
Saw Bingham solo acoustic recently in ATL, was awesome. Debuted three new songs, two of which were really good. Someone at the Nashville stop recorded them:
Yea I hadn't gotten to Southbound 35 when I made the post. Sounds like a cover you'd hear on Broadway in Nashville.
Haven't listened yet but he's great. Got a mention on NPR for it. Went to see a Jamey Johnson show last year just because he and Margo Price were the openers. I like Jamey but I went for those two mostly.
Decent HD radio station for getting caught up on the latest red dirt stuff: https://tunein.com/radio/KIKK-1003-HD-2-s102736/
Whiskey Myers puts on such an amazing show. Also seeing reckless Kelly in a week, getting spoiled recently
Was it them (whiskey Myers) that kind got sideways with their career because they would get too drunk to play shows?
Turnpike is who I think you’re thinking of. Never heard that about WM, but I could be wrong. FTR it sounds like Turnpike has cut the bullshit from what I’ve heard.
Except the whole Miranda/Evan drama. Hopefully their shows are better. I vowed to never go to another one until Evan sobers up. The last time I saw them, Evan couldn't even remember the lyrics for the last 4 or 5 songs.
Just read some Cosmo on the Miranda/Evan shit. Jesus christ hes great at making music but a complete fuck up
Unfortunately I'm guessing Evan Felker will cause the demise of Turnpike at some point, which will be a tragedy.
Probably when Miranda wants to control everything, which seams to be happening already unless they just want the payday to open for her the rest of their career
Saw them in Omaha last week, they sounded awesome. There was maybe 50 people in the whole place so I felt bad for them but selfishly I loved it.
New Cody Jinks single. Album out end of next month. http://k101online.com/first-listen-cody-jinks-must-be-the-whiskey/
