I mean, how bored are you? It's like stargate level. I have a low threshold for sci fi entertainment so I'm a terrible judge. Season 2 has not been as good. So maybe ?
Celemo I like Season 1 of Dark Matter. On the syfy show scale, it's pretty good. I dropped it in S2 mostly because I didnt have time for it. Probably will come back to it at some point. I dont think it's as good as Stargate, personally, but still decent.
Season 2 has been solid so far. I've really enjoyed Killjoys and Dark Matter. I'm just disappointed as hell that we won't be getting another season of the Expanse until next year
I haven't read the books.... They worth the read? FWIW I'm not big on fictional books. I prefer non-fiction
Well, they're obviously fiction, so I dont really know what to tell you. I love them. If you like the show, I'd imagine you'd like the books even more. There's a handful of TMBers that have read them and really enjoy them.
let us not forget that truman said something like "blade runner is maybe in the top 20 sci-fi movies ever made"
Haven't seen Suicide Squad or any of the recent shit he's done. I think the last time I watched him in anything was maybe Panic Room and I couldn't get past his cornrows
i dont have high hopes anyway. prometheus looked great and had pretty awesome potential but ended up being pretty mediocre. vickers was an android btw.
i haven't seen that. i think the only movie he's been in that i liked was Lord of War, but i like it in more of a "if it's on tv i'll watch it" sort of way.
The entire premise of Blade Runner/DADoES always annoyed me because of the massive plot holes, but I do enjoy the lunatic ravings of Philip K Dick.
are you going to tell us about the plot holes in blade runner or are we supposed to know what they are
Unless you say Blade Runner is the greatest film ever made, Joe_Pesci will be offended by it I liked it. Didnt love it.
Sci fi ground hog day. Device that can solve energy crisis created time loop. Inventor and girlfriend have to protect it
My main gripe is they could have done SO much more world building instead of basically a bottle episode. Like what is Taurus, how did the war start, was there some kind of nuclear exchange?
'Valerian' Time-Traveling Ship and Other Sci-Fi Awesomeness Revealed at NY Comic Con By Sarah Lewin, Staff Writer | October 7, 2016 11:56am ET The poster for the upcoming "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (2017) was revealed Oct. 6, 2016 at New York Comic Con. Credit: www.teaser-trailer.com NEW YORK — "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," a big-budget action movie built from a long-running French comic, has arrived at New York Comic Con. Its booth here at the Javits Convention Center mashes up the old and the new, featuring an old-school comic shop alongside computer-generated imagery (CGI) of a spaceship for visitors to explore and an eye-catching display of the film's poster. "Valerian," which will be released in July 2017, follows two special government agents as they try to unravel the evil putting the mega-sprawling space-station city Alpha in danger. The movie's director, Luc Besson, also directed "The Fifth Element" — and he's loved the story ever since he read the comic as a 10-year-old, according to promotional materials for the film. "I wanted to make this film years ago, but I had to wait for the technology to catch up with my imagination," Besson said, as quoted in the pamphlet. Outside the booth was a massive poster, first released yesterday morning (Oct. 6) on the first day of the convention. Rendered with a 3D holographic effect, the poster was draped with material so nobody would see it until its big reveal that morning, employees at the booth told Space.com. A series of colorful posters greeted visitors to the "Valerian" booth at New York Comic Con. Clive Owen, Kris Wu, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman and Rihanna are also featured in the movie. Visitors pass a screen showing short clips, as well as a trio of life-size aliens from the series, called the Doghan Daguis, who share a collective brain with vast knowledge of the universe. Next, Con-goers arrive at a green-screen ramp, where they can pose for a virtually rendered photo. They're placed on the ramp of the characters' spaceship, the Intruder, showing a weathered, industrial-looking hull touched down on a desert surface. In the movie, the Intruder lets the main characters travel through time and space. "Valerian" director Luc Besson and the comic's co-creator Jean-Claude Mézières met fans to sign the film's newly-released poster at New York Comic Con on Thursday, Oct. 6. Credit: Janette Pellegrini / Getty Images Just next door, sharing a wall with the CGI set, is an old-fashioned comic-shop setup, cluttered with original copies of the comic and other bric-a-brac. On Thursday, Besson and Jean-Claude Mézières, who co-created and illustrated the original comic, signed movie posters for fans. Mézières worked with Besson on "The Fifth Element," and used to ask why he hadn't made a "Valerian" movie, too. Besson said he didn't think the special-effects world was up to it — until James Cameron's "Avatar" was released in 2009. The booth will stand for all four days of the convention, showing what seems to be the movie's aesthetic — a comic-book sense of adventure and modern special effects to define a sweeping sci-fi world.
Supposedly Valerian footage from SDCC blew people away. Really hope Luc Besson has found his groove again. I really didn't like Lucy.
Roommates had never seen District 9. They're currently watching my copy as I couldn't let such poor deprived souls continue on like that.
The Expanse got picked up by Netflix. S2 in 2017. Leaving the comment but forgot this was the movies thread. May still apply to some of you.
Oh shit. Didnt realize it wasn't going to happen on Syfy. That's great news. They could really blow it out. Hope they give them a good budget
I'll never understand why it's more worthwhile making another sharknado instead of something halfway decent like Expanse.
Yeah. I always hope for the best on Syfy, but prepare for the worst. The Expanse was decent. It really should be on HBO or Netflix with a bigger budget. The Expanse universe is really vast and there's a lot of cool shit to cover. The first season is covered the first half of the first book, which is a pretty contained story. But I was wondering how they'd be able to cover other stuff once the story.... EXPANDS. Ive given up on syfy producing good TV shows. Ive tried a lot of shows but just cant get into them. Dark Matter held me for a while, but I got tired of it. I did think the did a good job with Childhood's End though
Finally got around to seeing Chappie. Similar to Elysium, there is a good story in there somewhere but the movie was underwhelming to me.
Edge of Tomorrow 2 is a Sequel AND a Prequel Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman has spoken to Collider about how Edge of Tomorrow 2, which he will return to direct, is not only a sequel but also a prequel to the 2014 original. “That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing,” Liman said. “It’s because first of all the story is so amazing—much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film—and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel.” So what does that mean? Is it a prequel/sequel the way The Godfather Part II flashed back and forth? Does it involve time travel more extensive than the Groundhog Day-style way the previous movie did? He also teased his new concept to IGN, boldly stating that, “It’s going to revolutionize how people make sequels. It really will.” Race writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse have been brought on to script the film. The original screenwriter, Christopher McQuarrie, previously spoke about the prospect of a sequel, revealing star Tom Cruise had an idea for the film. “Edge of Tomorrow was so hard and was so draining. When we went out to dinner when we were making Mission and Tom said, ‘I have an idea for the sequel to Edge,’ and I said, ‘I don’t want to f***ing hear it. I do not want to know!’ And he pitched the idea to me and he finished pitching it, I was like, ‘Why did you do that?'” Edge of Tomorrow 2 sequel would see the return of Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, though how the film will continue the events of the first remains to be seen. Directed by Doug Liman, Edge of Tomorrow brought in just north of $100 million at the domestic box office, and cleared $370 million worldwide. The film also starred Bill Paxton, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way. The movie was based on the acclaimed novel “All You Need is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
