After 15 years of drinking scotch, I still do not enjoy the heavily peated scotches. So it irks me more than it should when someone says that I enjoy starter scotches. They are just my scotch of preference after many many years of pouring scotch down my throat.
I got two Bruichladdichs: Octomore 7.3 and Black Arts. I think Octomore 7.3 is the highest PPM of any Scotch, but it's super smooth and balanced.
Have lost contact with him as I moved on in my career. Should have kept in contact with him just to see how this turned out.
Need this thread to be more active. Currently have a bottle of Glenfiddich 15, Caol Ila 10 & Lagavulin 16 & need to balance out all my bourbon. What shall I purchase next? Ideally sub $120
Oban 18 might be found at that price if on sale. Oban Distiller's addition (think it is a 16 year old), Glenmorangie 18.
One that I've come across that I haven't seen much in the US is Glendronach 21 yo "Parliament" I tried it in Scotland and it was great: molasses, brown sugar, toffee, etc. Hint of spices, tobacco too. They use sherry casks, which usually isn't my thing (I typically like smoke/peat), but the end result is awesome. Mine was about $100, I think.
What I said earlier wasn't a jab at people like you. You have tried a bunch and found what you like. It's the people who try one and assume they hate all scotches or say the only thing they will drink is something without trying others
oh I know, it is that almost every time someone lists scotches to try to start with, that is usually followed with and then your palate will start to handle the really good scotches, you know the peated ones. also, I said it irks me more than it should. we are all good, was not looking for a fight.
Is this one any good? I noticed my liquor store has this marked down to like $25 (saying it was like $45) and have a shelf full of them. Was wondering if something was wrong with it.
Try a bottle and see. If you like it, buy it up and know that you got a great deal. My attitude is "you like, what you like". Anyone putting you down for drinking what you want to drink really has no clue what they are talking about. I drink Scotch almost exclusively, but have been drinking Jameson Caskmates all week. Really enjoyed it.
It's decent. It's not as strong as some of the other Islay's but that's not always a bad thing. I've enjoyed it anyway. If it's on sale, go for it.
Wanted something cheapish as a daily drinker for my decanter... Went with Monkey Shoulder. It has a ton of favorable reviews, but I'm still surprised at the quality for a $30 bottle
That's my gf's favourite blended scotch. It's pretty darn decent for that. I'd leave it in its own bottle though - the money graphic is pretty cool
Fucked around with a girl who worked for a liquor distributor and she gave me all sorts of scotch like balconies 25 and stuff. She kept trying to get my to try monkey shoulder and I was like wtf kind of name is that. This was like four years ago and I pretty much always keep a bottle of it in my place now. For the price I think it's about the best deal there is
Not bad. Just a touch more peat than my tastes prefer but pleasant otherwise. Definitely drink it when I am having a nice steak from now on instead of by itself.
I love the peat, but currently on a path away from Islay. I've found that, on occasion, I prefer some of the other regional variants
I looked for the Alexander & Murray 23 in Vegas but no luck. I did find Battlehill Glen Moray 24 though. It is a Speyside and complex. It's very smooth. No peat at all to my palate, so you might like it.
Scotch bros, hope y'all are enjoying a dram in honor of Burns tonight. I am. A little smooth heat on a winter's night.
get a load of training wheels over here but srs I love Islays, Speysides, and... Lowlands. wut Auchentoshan on a summer evening with grilled foodstuffs hnnngh
Anyone have any thoughts on a 30 year scotch? Looking at picking up a glenfarclas 30 for a friend's 30th birthday.
Bar (The Baxter Inn) I went to in Sydney, Australia last week. The bottles on the bar are all new scotches I tried.
It was. Ridiculous place and you literally had to find it in a dark back alley by garbage cans then walk down industrial stairs into a hidden basement to get there.
