Need some advice, por favor. I'm visiting L.A. around July 4th weekend and need help figuring out the best places to visit during the day and the bar/club scene at night. The trip will be about 4 or 5 days.
4th of July is always going to be a big party day at the beaches. Really wouldn't matter if you chose Manhattan, Hermosa, Huntington, Newport, etc.
Going with two other people. Have a friend that just moved to Culver City but she's not the type to know everything that's going on after moving so soon or the best places. I imagine we'll get a hotel not far from her.
If you are in Culver City then you are going to be right by Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica. I don't live up that way, but I am sure some others that post itt will have knowledge of what goes on for 4th of July in those areas.
I live in the area but I am old so I don't do anything. I think there is shit at Santa Monica during the 4th every year. There are cool bars in the area but like I said I am old so TIFWIW. There is a brewery in Culver City but I have never been.
The Marina has fireworks I think. All the beaches will be packed so wherever you go it will be people overload.
As mentioned, Culver City is a great central location to a lot of places. I'd suggest these four days. Venice Day: Get fish tacos at James Beach, make a reservation on the Hotel Erwin rooftop and get a couple drinks from the roof, go down and wander the boardwalk and check out whatever bar looks/seems appealing, stopping for more drinks where appropriate. Santa Monica Day: The hottest bar in Santa Monica right now (I feel like Stefon) is the Bungalow. It's a house-party vibe across the street from the beach. However it's gotten so popular that its near ridiculous. It opens at 2, and you'd probably have to start queuing around 1:00-1:30 to get in at open, if you get there between 2-3, you'd probably have to wait at the door. You can check out that scene, and if you don't get in there, go to the Hotel Shangrai-La next door - they have a cool pool bar and rooftop as well. Walk down Ocean Ave to the pier, hang out by the pier for a little bit and check out any of the various bars on Ocean. Malibu Day: Get an early reservation at the Getty Villas (like noon). It's a museum, so you may not be interested, but this is a cool place, and a go-to for bringing people to when they visit. Then go to either Malibu Wines or Moonshadows for drinks. This will be a #HotTake to many, but I'd avoid the beaches on the actual 4th. Everyone heads down there and they just get overpacked and crazy - nowhere to park, Uber surge pricing, hard to get drinks, hard to find a spot on the beach, etc. For this day, I'd hit up a rooftop - Standard Downtown, Herringbone in WeHo, Wilshire hotel in mid-city, etc. and have drinks on the roof and catch the fireworks from up high. Others can feel free to pop in where I'm missing...
I just got back Sunday from a trip to Anaheim/LA. My buddy lives in Anaheim and Rockies were in town so I stayed with him a few days and went to games. I rented a car Thursday afternoon to drive to my office near Marina Del Rey. OK, so I was living in the Marina from August to Thanksgiving last year and it rained once. The day I have to drive from Anaheim to Marina the heavens opened. I literally had the front tires out of the rental place when the downpour started and it didn't end until I got to the office. That fucking sucked. I gotta say, though, living in Marina Del Rey for three months was fucking awesome.
Slow speed police chase right now on Ventura blvd. dude is going 5-10 mph in a mustang throwing up peace signs and waving to people. Car has a sign "victory parade" on the door. Wtf and I'm paying for this shit
Lapd won't approach cuz they think he could gas it haha No spike strip due to slow speed motherfucker
He rolled through my area so I was getting texts to watch the tv. It was on the local stations and then just kcal 9. It's over now. He made it from reseda to just east of van nuys, but it took him almost an hour haha
Was supposed to go hiking in the palisades today but I'm way too hung over and its beautiful out. She mad.
The New Biggest Mansion in Los Angeles Will Ask $500 Million The biggest house in Los Angeles has swollen even larger in size and is getting a pretty big ego now too. Bloomberg reports that the finished project will measure more than 100,000 square feet, making it bigger than the infamously unfinished Versailles estate in Florida. The spread is being developed on spec, naturally, and will feature a 74,000-square-foot main residence with a 5,000-square-foot master bedroom, a 30-car garage, a "Monaco-style casino," and three smaller houses spread across four acres. "The house will have almost every amenity available in the world," prolific spec house developer Nile Niami says about his latest project. How much will every amenity available in the world cost? $500 million. http://la.curbed.com/archives/2015/05/biggest_house_in_los_angeles_500_million.php
Tell me the must see and do shit near The Gaslamp District. Or if there is something that I must do that'll need to drive to...OK. Go. Likes will be awarded
Tomorrow afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. Breakfast probably will not happen. Conference will handle that. Free time will be half of tomorrow and a couple evenings after 5pm
There's a Stone tasting room that's probably close to you. Petco park is close if the Padres are in town as its a pretty cool stadium. Coronado Brewing is a short drive over to Coronado Island. You can always check out the world famous San Diego zoo or SeaWorld or cross the border to TJ for a donkey show.
Kearny Mesa, which is a drive from you, has the best breweries in my opinion like Societe and Alsemith being the most well known.
I've literally "been to the beach" a few times since I moved a few blocks from the beach a few months ago. Currently drinking at a bar 500 yards from the beach.
Nice downtown area you got here. Ate at. The BlInd Burro. Was pretty solid. Good tacos. Your bums sure do love to stay south of Petco. Very nice of them to all stay in one spot. Really wish I could head to a game there, but they are out of town. You stay classy, San Diego.
it's good to be back in san diego. one of the top 4 burritos in san diego (i believe it's the best, but i try not to be biased)
Received our notice from the water company that the 24% reduction mandate is now in effect. I'm pretty confident we will meet the goal. I'm letting the yard die and will move to drought-tolerant landscaping. The woman is going to miss her roses, though. Also, if it's yellow, let it mellow.
You might be able to keep the roses. Just use a large bowl to catch water from the shower while you're waiting for the water to warm up.
