    1. Not common on the west side.

    2. there is a taco stand that I love. If you’re in my area I’ll tell you exactly where and how to get there.

3.Smoking weed in public is illegal. It’s the same as drinking in public. You’ll get stopped. At the beach you’ll probably be fine. I don’t smoke so I honestly can’t say much more than that.

    4. yeah

    5. Second Korea town.

that Al and Bea's place looks good as hell

kind of disappointed to hear they actually enforce laws related to marijuana. Looked up a LA Times article back when rec sales were starting up and some Assistant Police Chief had some pretty tough words for pot heads: “And the department will take aggressive action in enforcing the law.” :meh:

but I should say being able to reasonably expect that your car won't get broken into is pretty nice

I don’t smoke so I can’t swear by this but if it’s like booze you’ll be okay at a park or beach. But, I don’t know about walking down the street smoking.

My friend who was in California a couple months ago said that he was able to just walk off away from other people and smoke in public without any issues. My friend told me that. Hope that helps, Cornelius Suttree .

Yes, Delancey and Bay Cities are both fairly casual with t shirt and jeans being what I typically wear.

Quarters is the most famous Korean BBQ place. I'd try to go there, but sometimes the waits for KBBQ tables take forever. I think most are wait only, no reso. Not my area of specialty, I just know of Quarters as the big one.

I wouldn't worry about car break-ins but don't be stupid with your car, e.g. try to park in fairly busy streets or lots. You can get away with weed in public decently well, but again, don't be dumb and it is illegal so just be careful. I've seen people just smoking walking down Sunset or busy street, that's pretty casual and I wouldn't recommend it, but people do.

El Compadre is my personal favorite Mexican spot in Hollywood; always get the fajitas so can't speak to the burritos, but it's damn good Mexican.

Agree on Parks and if you're looking for AYCE then Oo-Kook is always a solid choice.

Bay Cities is good but can be super busy and awkwardly set up. Sandwiches are ordered in the back right corner at the deli counter, there will likely be a line. But it's also a market and there will be people trying to shop in the same space, Santa Monica people, that believe they're entitled to any space regardless of who/what's already there

They only list Hollywood and Echo Park as their two locations on their website, so I don't think so, but it could be if they just consider it a different areas or if its friends of friends or something

I loved El Compadre - but they’ve had a few pretty rough health department violations that made me stop going. The owners get hammered and hang out after and buy shots for everyone which was always a good time.

    Delancy is super casual.

Best Italian in LA right now is Chad Colby’s spot Antico.

This is the only thread I’m posting in moving forward. Lol.

Randomly throwing this in there, but if you are in North OC in the AM on the way to HB, Laguna, Dana, then I would stop at Nick's Deli in Seal Beach for a breakfast burrito.

For Laguna, if you want a good hike or even just a quick hike for the view, then go to El Morro Canyon. It's a mix of some serious hikers for the big canyon hikes and then Newport milfs walking on the base trails with Starbucks.

Sun went down just as I got to Malibu last night so got a cheap room in Thousand Oaks. Took Hwy 23 back to PCH at sunrise and breezed through Malibu to Pepperdine this morning. Now walking from Santa Monica Pier to what I believe is gonna be Venice Beach

Not a bad start to the day. That Hwy 23 drive through the Santa Monica Mountains was absurdly fun and pretty

Had Park's BBQ this evening and then went downtown. That was well worth the wait. Tomorrow I'm planning on being downtown again around sunrise to check out some architecture. Then get back on the PCH early enough to hopefully eat lunch at Dana Point. Then slowly make my way back to this hotel in W Hollywood, park and take a Lyft back to Koreatown or to that Mexican place that looked so good if they're open late enough. Should be a better evening tomorrow since more things will be open. Gonna be driving a bit but should get to see some cool spots. Early Friday morning planning on getting a big breakfast and driving back up PCH as far as Santa Barbara. Stay there and then make rest of drive Saturday. I've been hitting up a bunch of Missions along the way so might try to identify one I might have missed

    Edit, it's raining damn it

I might go a little past SB on Friday to avoid having to push too hard to get back for the semifinals on Sat. But definitely want to stop back there. Malibu, Santa Barbara and Monterey have given me some serious real estate envy

I loved how the dorms of UCSB that were right across from the beach had surfboard racks in addition to bike racks

Pepperdine is one of the most insanely sheltered environments I've seen. Gated entrances as if it's the AF Academy or some shit. Beautiful setting no doubt. But what kind of lame student life is there on that campus? Students can't possibly change or grow much there. Believe some might call it an anchor school because you just get even more deeply invested in the beliefs with which you entered

    Should try to visit UCLA/USC

decided to take advantage of the open roads I was seeing today and came all the way back after stopping in Santa Barbara for a bit this morning

highlights of my very brief time in the LA area:

    - Dana Point: Dana Point Harbor, Bluff Top Trail, and Doheny State Beach
    - Laguna Beach: Aliso Beach, Treasure Island Beach, and Crystal Cove State Park. Small sample size but Orange County seemed exceedingly bitching
    - that early morning drive down Hwy 23 on xmas morning
    - Malibu Pier was neat. Malibu is so damn gorgeous
    - Santa Monica: enjoyed the stroll from SM Pier to Venice Beach. Would love to see that area during the summer
    - Broadway downtown. Some really cool buildings around that area, especially the Bradbury Building and City Hall
    - driving my truck through Beverly Hills while blasting the new White Reaper album about as loud as possible

I really need to come down some random week during the summer when everything is actually open and it's warm, but still nice to get some exposure to the LA area as an adult

anyone considering a drive from the Bay Area down to LA, see the spoiler for suggestions from a pretty lowkey single dude who doesn't drink

    - Santa Cruz: West Cliff Drive, Natural Bridges State Beach, the Mission
    - Monterey: Point Pinos Lighthouse, Carmel Mission. Want to do the 17-mile drive at some point and also want to see Point Lobos State Natural Reserve
    - Big Sur: pretty dang beautiful. Bixby Bridge was neat. The whole dang PCH is wonderful, this stretch seemed to be especially scenic
    - San Luis Obispo: Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Cal Poly, SLO Mission and historic downtown, breakfast burritos with green chili (place had serious western vibes), elephant seals on beaches near San Simeon. SLO is now up there with Flagstaff, AZ and Fort Collins, CO as future retirement options. Outstanding college town
    - Santa Barbara: UCSB, Chaucer's Books, the SB Mission, Stearns Wharf, SB Harbor

This is MODEVIL 's backyard, but I am pretty familiar with Newport as well. Where you are at, you are closest to Fashion Island, which is an upscale outdoor mall. I'm not familiar with much there. You are then going to need to take some short ubers to either Corona Del Mar (on the other side of the mall from you) which has a bunch of restaurants which are all walking distance. I like the Side Door which is part of 5 Crowns, Quiet Woman is popular, Bungalow is good too. A new place opened called CDM and have heard good things. They also have a speakeasy bar there as well. The bar district is in Balboa Peninsula and has a ton of restaurants. On the way to that you have a few restaurants on the water like Winery (steakhouse), Billy's at the Beach and Rusty Pelican. A Restaurant is pretty good, but not on the water.

    this state is absurd btw

I had to make some sacrifices to move to CA with one being the majority of my travel budget. But that hasn't proven much of a loss with so much at your disposal within a few hours in any direction (besides maybe to the west, ha). I put like 1,100 miles on my vehicle this week yet was rarely out of sight of the Pacific from start to finish. I really haven't even scratched the surface of what is nearby and could easily spend weeks exploring the more distant and/or remote spots

    it's really mind blowing
