So me and my family are going to be in California beginning late next week. For a night or two we'll be in Glendale. My brother is looking for a good spot to get some legit Mexican food. I'm down with that but would like to try some other good food places as well. Any recommendations?
Din Tai Fung is a nationally relevant restaurant - definitely worth hitting. The HK location was the first Taiwanese restaurant to ever win a Michelin star.
If you want some ridiculous tacos. Go over to the Ave. 26 taco truck in Eagle Rock, about 10 min or so from Glendale. Off of Figueroa in the Von's parking lot. They're only there from 5 p.m onwards. It's not glamorous, but it is soooooo good, and an authentic L.A street taco. Plus they do Suadero tacos, which is like carnitas, but with beef brisket. Not everyone in L.A does that. If you're looking for a casual sit down joint, Cacao Mexicatessen is pretty good. It's also in Eagle Rock. Casitas Taco al Carbon in Burbank is also amazing. It's in a tiny strip mall, but strip malls are where a lot of the good food is at in L.A. If you're looking for good Mediterranean food (which would be a good idea if you're in Glendale), you should try Raffi's Place.
Played Santa Anita GC today. On the 11th hole (probably around 2:15 pm), I had 175 to the green and had decided I would hit 4 iron to an elevated green with a hurting breeze. While waiting for the green to clear, the wind freshened and I decided to club up to hybrid. I changed clubs two more times to 5 wood and then 3 wood as the wind just started blowing crazy hard in to us. The rest of the afternoon was wild with the gusty breezes and I knew there was going to be some awful fires. This planet is burning up.
No, a group of friends were talking about him. Just a little nostalgia. The Best 15 Minutes in Sports was amazing when I was a kid listening to him. I called into the show a few times when I was 12 or 13. Carlsbad to Cerritos, Long Beach to Lompoc, Oceanside to Orange I’ve got you
Jesus, the tribes are really committed to trying to squash this online gambling prop. It's only June and they are buying up ad spots like they're a dollar a dozen.
I'm down because the girls would love it - but it's telling me over $700/ticket - where did you get yours?
Have not bought any tickets yet. But the 699 tix are the VIP+ tickets. VIP is $399 and regular are $179
Yea I just looked at it - I'm going to be stuck getting the ones that come out to $739 without a doubt as I'm with two females but it's close to me and the wife's anniversary so not really taking more of a financial hit than a usual year.
Any tips on what to do on Catalina island, besides the wine mixer? Disney cruise stops there one day in October. My wife, I, and a 3.5 year old. 8:30am-4:45pm on a Wednesday.
I usually take mescaline and try to ride the Bison. Might have to leave the kid behind for that though.
I have recently discovered Lahmacun (Armenian Flatbread) and I am kind of obsessed. Sipan Bakery in Glendale is crazy good.
Corky Bucek The Bungalow Kitchen a good spot in Belmont Shore? Have a work dinner up that way in a few weeks.
I’ve only had brunch there. I have heard it’s good food wise and the drinks are definitely good. I live in that neighborhood so if you need any other recs or ideas let me know.
Where else would you recommend? We got a reservation for 6 on a Tuesday night but can cancel obviously.
I'm coming up from OC to take a few employees to dinner who are visiting from around the country...the conference they are attending is in Long Beach and I think their hotels are there.
Depends on the food but something in the price wheelhouse in the area I like Michaels, Nico’s and Nicks. Probably in that order.
Edit add on: The Attic is a little further away but not by much on Broadway in Belmont Heights. They just got a Michelin recommendation. That’s another really good spot.
Wanting to meet up with some friends of ours from San Diego for a weekend getaway kinda halfway-ish between us. We're in SLO. Typically, we go for SB area but were thinking about trying something different. Found a ton of AirBnBs in a small community called Pine Mountain Club. Anyone ever been and had positive/negative experiences?
Eating dinner tomorrow night at Olivetta, a restaurant I just realized I booked for March 20, 2020 and never got to go with Covid Time is a flat circle
I've gone hiking around Mt. Pinos and driven through Pine Mountain Club. It's a really cool and beautiful area, but I've never stayed over. One of the coolest roads I've ever driven is Hwy 95 going through PMC to the 166; was going to Bitter Creek Wildlife Refuge where you can see California Condors. Though it was in May, and everything didn't look dead yet. You can actually get to Ojai and Ventura from Pine Mountain Club if you go south on 166, I've always wanted to do it, but never have.
Right on thanks. Pulled up the map, and you're right. 95-166-33 down to Ojai looks pretty rad and worth the detour
not sure why I'm reading my own 4 year old posts and responses to them, but reminiscing on that trip - I ended up hiking Sandstone Peak in the Santa Monica Mountains on Sunday morning, then spending the afternoon with VTA at Casa Agria. Pretty nice little Sunday.
I’m in a friends group with a total of 8 couples looking to take a 5ish day trip to Palm Springs next year sometime between June-august. Other than golf and the girls hitting the spa, what else is there to do? Age range is around 35-45 if that matters.
Well, fuck. So when are the best two months to go? I found a house with a lazy river pool, so needs to be warm enough to enjoy that.
If you're going to Palm Springs from June to August, you should literally plan on some sort of morning activity from like 6:30-10:30 (golf, hike, biking, etc.), be indoors or at a pool til like 6:30 PM, then a fun dinner all night or something. There might be a mid-century museum or something, but you will not want to be outdoors from like 11 AM to 6 PM, not being facetious
