These fires are no bueno. Mt Baldy is completely fucked. The Line Fire is close to Big Bear right now. Supposedly the fire as of last night was 2 miles from the bridge at that dam. My aunt and cousin evacuated, but are not in the official zone. My family’s lake house is in the evacuation zone.
Weho - slight wobble. Talked to some Malibu people that said they had some broken vases and stuff but nothing crazy.
Yesterday had Green Day / Smashing Pumpkins at SoFi, Slipknot / Knocked Loose at Intuit Dome, and Glass Animals at the Forum. I think Cosm is also fully up and running too and a lot of the bars / restaurants down there I was at Intuit and it was a bit of a madhouse, but got luck and had a buddy who was driving drop me off at a hotel by the 405 and caught an Uber from there. Don’t know whose idea it was to have 150k people in that area last night
My niece sent me this in a family text thread. https://vlc.calgaslitigation.com/ "If you live in California and purchased gasoline at retail between February 20, 2015 and November 10, 2015 in any of ten Southern California counties, you may be eligible for payment from a settlement negotiated by the Attorney General of California." Anyone else aware of this?
lol. https://la.eater.com/2024/10/1/24259420/intuit-dome-inglewood-4-am-last-call-approved-gov-newsom Gov. Newsom recently signed a bill (AB 3206) allowing Intuit Dome’s members-only club to serve alcohol until 4 a.m., reports the Los Angeles Times; the 100-person venue is the only one across the state allowed to do so. LA Clippers and Intuit Dome owner Stever Ballmer, who is the former CEO of Microsoft, said through his company, Murphy’s Bowl, that the last call extension was “needed as a boost to a unique Los Angeles community that draws hundreds of thousands of sports fans each year.” According to state records, Ballmer’s wife Connie donated $1 million to Newsom’s Stop the Republican Recall campaign. Murphy’s Bowl donated over $700,000 to lobby state lawmakers and Newsom for proposals that would make it easier for alcohol companies to advertise and install face-scanning technology to verify legal drinkers, reports the Times. Critics on social media were quick to call the new bill an example of corruption.
There is probably going to be quite a bit of additional degeneracy going on there if 4am was a critical need for the venue. It's wild that it is the only one approved in the state though, there are plenty of companies that would donate/pay dramatically more than the reported amounts for a 4am liquor license.
Yea, depends on your CUP but your relevant bar/nightclubs usually get 4am approval. 4am-8am is the no on-premise sale and Sunday is 4am-10am no on-premise.
COSM is playing the MSU-Oregon game tomorrow and my wife is going with a group that reserved a table. It's over $90 per person for the seat, nothing else included. My tickets to the actual game cost $64.
I think we have a couple LBC people on here - this looks interesting - Phil Pretty's new opening at City Center: https://la.eater.com/2024/10/3/2426...ng-long-beach-michelin-star-city-center-hotel
That’s me as in the Long Beach guy here. Still haven’t been to Heritage yet but I’ve heard it’s awesome. The new place looks legit and they also opened a coffee/bagel place that’s supposed to be good.
Went to Heritage for my wife's birthday in April Awesome experience; felt like a truly elevated / special meal. Make sure you are really excited about the set menu as it rotates every ~6 weeks and obviously a lot of money Also, they offer a caviar bump for like $30 at the start of the meal. We passed on it, but at the end of the night they gave us each two free ones and a glass of champagne. I guess their caviar expires every Saturday night and we were the last table there late Saturday night so they offered it to us with the remainder of a champage bottle they were going to pour out. Great time
They just pulled ND / FSU from COSM given FSU's start :( Going to try to go for a game soon, but that was the logical one for me
Spoiler Verdict from the group that went to COSM that it was a cool experience for about the 1st quarter and when the amazement wore off it kind of sucks. Everyone that went pretty much agreed it's a one and done experience. - They project the live feed from a handful of cameras, so there's issues with the play being too far away at times - There's no game info on the screen, so no time clock, yard markers, down and distance, 1st down line, etc. - The commentary over the speakers was from the main broadcast so it didn't always match what they were seeing - They spent most the game looking at the side TVs to watch the actual broadcast, especially for replays - As you can see on the pic, there's people in the line of sight. I guess two scores were completed blocked by seating on the 2nd deck. Definitely pay the extra to sit in the second and third tiers.
hoping for the best for my people at Rustic Canyon, that place seems primed to get fucked up by those winds :( you too fish
We're fine with regard to trees but losing power would not be fun. My FIL's place is really up in the foothills so I'm hoping he comes through unscathed.
We have a friend house sitting for us. our place is in Wilshire Montana neighborhood of Santa Monica so it’s pretty close. I guess the smoke is going out to the ocean for now.
Man, this is really bad. And now we got a fire around Eaton Canyon, that could go all sorts of wrong.
Left work to grab our cat and evacuated around 1:30. Pic is from 645 from one of our home cameras before the power went out, one of our neighbors doing battle with a garden hose. Hopefully he’s ok. Live just west of the palisades village. edit: never posted a picture on here before, struggling
