be safe it’s scary out there. Took my pup potty and the palm trees look like they are going to fall. I assume something that will tall is safe but fuck if it doesn’t look scary
Overnight into tomorrow is supposed to be worse too, going to be some stronger winds and even lower humidity levels than today.
lived there in the E019 section for 15 years until a few years ago. My family had a house there since the 1950s. Have hit an ungodly amount of buckets at the Eaton Canyon golf course range. This all sucks so much.
hope you are okay stay safe brother. My daughter in law’s job is closed tomorrow. I’m shocked my son is working tomorrow. They both work in Santa Monica
I did about a year of fire recovery work in Napa and Sonoma and heard some really chilling stories from people who survived the fire. If you're in an evac zone, best to get out tonight if you can. One of those fires came through in the middle of the night and people i talked to only made it out by the skin of their teeth. If there's only 1 way in and out of your neighborhood and you're in an evac zone, gtfo
I have a good friend that is Cal Fire and some of the things he told me about the Camp Fire in '18 in Butte County (85 dead and many other long term effects) is stuff you have nightmares about. Last night I shared a post on IG about these upcoming scary conditions and the replies of people having no idea was astonishing. I definitely feel people should follow something like a local KTLA, KCAL, ABC7, some weather page, etc. on one of their socials just for shit like this happening.
I don’t know if this is accurate because mine have always been on - but it’s pretty damn dumb if it is.
Quick note on our other fire - Areas under mandatory evacuation: East of Altadena Drive Kinneloa Canyon Road Outpost Lane Glen Springs Coolidge Miranda Roosevelt Veranda Kenclare Foxridge Canyon Close Grand Oak North of New York Drive East of Altadena Drive West of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue North of Sierra Madre East of Allen West of Santa Anita Drive Areas South of Sierra Madre are under an evacuation warning. Details remain limited and it’s unclear how many homes or structures may be threatened.
2025 is off to a great start. I can’t imagine how fucked we’re going to be with a bunch of brain dead morons running this country.
I was born in Arcadia, Mom grew up in Arcadia, Dad is from West Covina and worked his ass off cleaning pools in the 626 for 40 years (including Don Drysdale's pool for many years) and he texted me yeah some of the pools I used to clean, those homes will be done
I used to have family in Altadena. Looking at that map I'm thinking the place they lived in is gone. Edit - misinterpreted. They'd be evac'd for sure, at any rate.
Our friend house sitting is preparing for an evacuation order. Told her to grab a few sentimental items for us but more importantly make sure her and our baby kitten get the hell out of there if ordered to.
Brother-in law lives in Altadena and had to evacuate. Currently have 8 people and two dogs now living in our small 2 bedroom house.
Mandatory evac issued for all of La Canada. I gotta try and get over to my Dad's house/childhood home, he's out of town right now. See if I can grab some stuff and bail.
For anyone in the area needing updates, I have found the "Watch Duty" app is pretty fantastic. We used it this summer with the Park fire up near Chico in Nor Cal and were close to being evacuated.
Already two reported dead in the Eaton fire. Most of my neighbors have evacuated even though it's still pretty far away but being able to see flames is pretty unusual for Weho.
Just got back from La Canada, flames getting close to the JPL area. I've never seen a smoke cloud that thick. It's hanging super low all over downtown, driving up the 2 was a trip. Looks like the fucking apocalypse.
Woke up this morning to the scent of a bonfire, I live mid city so luckily not near any of the fires, but anecdotally the smoke clouds are worse than any I've seen in this part of the city in the last ~10 years. Power is on, but elevators are out. living on the 11th floor makes things interesting. Lucky that is the total extent of my inconvenience
Checking in on everyone. Looks like the Altadena fire is getting really bad if the evac notices this morning are any indicator. All of LCF & 1/3 of Glendale now? Palisades gone. Stay safe
My neighborhood (Marina del Rey area) seems safe right now but going outside and it looks like we are surrounded by fire/smoke clouds. It is really ominous looking out there.
It looks like the fire is crossing San Vicente and creeping into Santa Monica. Less than a mile from my home now.
Thinking of that a bit. Even you guys that aren’t next to the fires, don’t be stubborn and wear an n-95 or some form of a mask outside. Thinking of all the hazardous materials that must be burning is scary stuff. Like the smoke at ground zero we could be hearing about the health consequences from this for decades.
praying for your fr. Be safe and smart. Weirdly this morning was an instagram memory from will rogers beach during the natty when we stayed in SM.
They just evacuated lower Santa Monica, west of 11th, north of Montana. Christ. Looks like fires moving into Rustic Canyon and real concern it hoping up
This was from my office 6 pm last night Awful smell and ash in the South Bay today even though we’re 15 miles from it
Man, when I stayed in Marina last year for a week and a half, I was at the Marina Tower apartments right by you.
My place is a couple blocks south of Montana. If they can’t contain that neighborhood that’s thousands of people fucked
It's unclear if there's an active fire threat, or if it's just very precautionary. There's been chatter of a spot fire at 4th and Adelaide which is what set the whole evac in motion (I think, timing would fit) but hearing that may be handled? If this fire without 75+ mph winds can jump out of SM Canyon and/or cross San Vicente, we are truly fucked as it's zero lot lines for miles
