Office in Brentwood just got evacuated Buddy in Santa Monica (Idaho and Teens) just asked to come down to South Bay for a few days Doesn't seem like its getting better
My view from Silverlake just now. I know multiple people who have lost their homes today in Altadena, I honestly can't believe how far down it has gotten over there. Whole thing is unbelievable really, this has to be the worst disaster since the Northridge quake. Hope everyone stays safe.
Been a lurker on this site for a number of years and never have posted. Heartbreaking scenes in LA County. Been living in Southern CA off and on for 30 years and this weather scenario for the basin and foothills is the worst I can recall. The new fire in Runyon Canyon must be a terrible one to fight tactically as there are north winds up on Mulholland, but fuel/terrain pushing it north (against the wind). Spot fires can result far from the flame front due to random lofting. Take care of all of you up there.
Yea I posted in the other thread - I've literally got one going to my NW, NE, and now fucking direct north at the moment.
This is brutal - I don't have a house in an affected area but I have a lot of friends literally losing everything between yesterday and today.
I think the Bowl is safe, as it's to the east. Magic Castle is south, hopefully the fire moves SE instead. People can leave, but places like the Magic Castle can't. When Lahaina and Warren and Annabelle's burned in August 2023, I could console myself that at least the Magic Castle still stood. If it burns I'll be doubleplusbummed
Brother in Law had to go back and watch his house. Neighbors reached out and they had people trying to loot houses in the Evac area
There's been a lot of looting already - police are basically nowhere to be found in the forced evacuation zones so it's pretty much a green light.
It's sad as shit - unless someone wants to steal glassware, plateware, chairs or banquettes they aren't getting much from me but there are a lot of places that will get robbed blind during this.
My boss just (2-3 months ago) had his fire coverage pulled from the policy on his (very expensive) house in the Hollywood hills that is now 1.5 miles away from the center of the Hollywood fires It seems a lot of insurance companies may have done that recently knowing how dry the area is plus local incompetence plus the rain forecast for the year being so light. Luckily he had some firm put in a policy at a 400% premium a month or so ago. Going to start veering into conspiracy territory soon
A lot of people are already going heavily into that territory given the starting point locations of the fires. Like normal people that I know are convinced this is a hit job.
Just got a notification to evacuate - in Weho. That doesn't sound promising considering I thought there was no chance we would be impacted.
Legit was about to tell the BFF I prob should get a pack of reds coat my lungs with something less dangerous than whatever is burning in Runyon canyon but didn’t think she’d go for it.
They just prepped us that we have to leave soon from the W. Weho still isn't in mandatory. Which is extremely concerning - it never entered my mind the W would potentially get hit given the landscape from the hills to get to it without wind being a factor.
Fuck yea LA - we’ll be back. https://www.fireaid.info/?fbclid=PA...Z_BU-POj29jauVt16U_aem_q_LCUMG7W0Ssa1KxforZwQ
