https://la.eater.com/2025/1/17/24346323/los-angeles-restaurants-struggling-wildfires-chefs-2025 I'm not worried about LA long term but a lot of restaurants will close this year. You can't sustain those losses for months on end and no one is going out right now.
Next round of offshore winds expected Monday afternoon/evening into Tuesday. PSPS has been activated for portions of SCE's territory: https://www.sce.com/outage-center/check-outage-status Winds might be more easterly this time, as opposed to the last few which were NNE or NE. This could result in some of the stronger winds occurring in the IE, San Diego County, northern LA County and Ventura County. Fire weather watches are in effect for the usual areas: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/ Another, weaker period of winds could occur next Thursday. At least these are shorter in duration, but it's hard to put a positive spin on anything right now.
Whopping 0.2" of rain since the end of April in San Diego but there is finally some rain in the forecast for this weekend/next week.
are there any good local team related pieces of merch that don't have the "LA Strong" slogan on it? would love to buy some stuff that contributes to the cause but i hate that expression/slogan

https://teamlastore.com/collections/kings-x-lafd I don't think I could pull off the one with the bear on the back but I'm sure some others could.
Street sweeping causes so much panic in my street group text. We don’t have parking issues compared some streets or neighborhoods in the area, yet people move their cars to the other opposite side the day before. Our posted time is at 10:00 am and more than half of the idiots have already left for work by then. So make zero sense on complaining and worrying about it. Also makes sense it’s a bunch of boomers.
My old neighbor's daughter was seemingly trying to set all-time records for it, but the amount of people getting towed regularly was always mind-blowing to me. Just within my 1 block purview it seemed like at least four of five people got towed every street cleaning and this is on a small residential street.
Somewhat clearly posted signs with about 8 different parameters listed of when you can park there and only if you have a permit. Also you have to be weary of any large scale events that pop out of nowhere and then you also will get towed.
It's a gift and a curse - you feel like you're walking in a scene from LaLa Land with clear streets but you know in your heart several people just got boned for making a parking mistake.
Is there a Northern California thread? I’m in Gilroy until the middle of next week and am bored out of my mind.
I might on Saturday since I don’t have to work but I’ve already done that. Might hit up a winery or something instead since I haven’t done that yet around here since I’m typically only here on weekdays and most of them close around 5pm.
Monterey Bay aquarium is right around the corner. Big Sur isn't too far either. But the San Joaquin valley is mostly just farms
Is Monterey worth checking out outside of the aquarium? I’ve been to Santa Cruz and hung out on the pier and while that was cool and all I don’t know if Monterey will much different Or is the aquarium cool enough to drive an hour for? Not that it seems like I have a lot of options here.
Has anybody been to Intuit Dome? Taking my brother for his bday/christmas gift on Sunday. Looking to figure out parking recs.
Not sure what it's like on GameDay, but they have a big garage basically attached to the stadium by bridge. There are lots around the area too.
Yea, there are three parking areas, one is attached and the east and west are reasonable walking distance.
If it's for your brother's birthday I would splurge (it's not that much of a cost difference) and get a player's garage pass.
Anybody else get smacked with a 58% increase on their service charge with Golden State Water this month?
You could go to Carmel. Kayak at Moss Landing. Drive back to Santa Cruz and go to Henry Cowell State Park and see the giant redwoods. Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Walk a beach in Rio Del Mar with me and get some fucking perspective
Went up to Griffith for the sunrise. I live in Silverlake and I never think to do it. Only a 12 min drive and it was so nice up there. Also a bunch of wasted Germans who ended up there from the night before in the parking lot.
Anyone been to this before? It's this weekend. https://sailgp.com/races/24-25/los-angeles-sail-grand-prix/overview
Parked in the West structure which was pretty easy and would recommend grabbing a parking pass prior. Stadium is pretty cool with all of the technology. I can see it being great for having season tickets or going multiple games a season, but some people may find issues with it for single game experiences. This is in regards to having to set up everything on your phone in advance of the game. Club seats were great and looking around it seemed like the upper levels were close enough to the action. Club lounge was nice to have pregame and at halftime. Found the food options could use a lot of improvement even in the club area in my opinion. Pretty much everything around the stadium was the same option and no other option for a restaurant.
I disagree with some of this but it's a decent breakdown: https://la.eater.com/2023/9/21/23881454/where-to-eat-sofi-stadium-best-food-los-angeles I've definitely never been impressed by any of the food at sofi though. Edit: Disregard - forgot which stadium we were discussing. I don't think I've eaten anything at Intuit but this doesn't sound great: https://www.foodandwine.com/los-angeles-clippers-intuit-dome-food-menu-8726801
Forgot about this. I was actually at the game last night too. Agree that the food options are trash given how forward looking everything else is there. I did appreciate the walk out ability when buying the food though.
Food felt like it was prepared hours prior for the chicken and waffle fries and my brother had the burger which he said was the same. They had a person preparing some items, but the portions were hilariously small for the price. Didn't really have the stadium foods as an option. The menu you linked is basically what they had the entire stadium. Think if they expanded some options or made a themed/specialty type of in some of the spots it would be a lot better experience. Also the beer menu was pretty shitty compared to other stadiums I have been to in recent years.
They used fucking Levy for the food services which is disappointing for an LA venue. I''d be surprised if they don't make some adjustments there eventually.
It's the same company that does the Dodgers but they have a ton of independent contractors in the stadium also. Doesn't look like Intuit does but I have only been there I think twice and food wasn't the focus at the time.
Sushi Dog seems like just bad marketing all around but I don't claim to be a stadium concessions expert. Like who is that appealing to? The zero percent of the LA populous that is unaware of what a handroll is?
I went to Jingle ball with a liquor company and they weren't able to provide the food package they had pre-paid for, so I'm assuming not all is well on that front at Intuit.
Corky Bucek I'm intrigued, you been yet? After five years and $150 million in renovation, the Fairmont Breakers Long Beach reopened in November 2024, giving new life to the historic building that has graced the shoreline for nearly a century. On the ground floor is the traditional Italian restaurant Nettuno, while the entire penthouse has been revived as the Sky Room led by executive chef Jared Reeves and chef de cuisine Max Pfeiffer. https://la.eater.com/2025/3/7/24380...ach-history-old-hollywood-pacific-ocean-views
Haven’t been yet but definitely want to check it out. I went to the Sky Room way back in the day as a kid for a grandparents bday.
Supposed to go to Anza-Borrego this weekend for camping. This storm later this week can go fuck itself.
