Would have definitely tried to go to this - didn't hear anything about it (was rescheduled from the initial date due to wildfires and just happened Monday). I was on the phone in HB and he got an alert and felt it a few seconds before my phone sent out the alert.
My mom is in poway about 15 miles from epicenter. She said she got alerted about 10 seconds before she felt it. Wild, didn’t know they could do that.
Despite all of these electronic devices pushing bits at near the speed of light, the the flow of information is much faster than any seismic wave. For there to be a warning prior to an earthquake, the ground detection network has to be alerted, send the readings upstream via telemetry to some server. From there it has to be relayed via cell network/ISP and into your device. Even with hardware/software lag, these detectors can outrun a tremor (unless directly over the earthquake). Mexico has had a similar system for years. Relatively new in CA, not sure if the rest of the US has a similar setup.
Was mid stream at the urinal in my office in Del Mar. Got the phone notification as it was happening. Realized idk what to do during an earthquake. Biggest one I’ve felt in my six years here. Everyone in my office stayed but I looked outside my window and saw most of the other office tenants were outside so I followed them.
I don’t believe so. I’m 30 miles from the epicenter and no damage here. Although I’m in a new building. One positive is the epicenter is in a sparsely populated area.
Looking forward to it, Weho needs outside money/chefs with national acclaim to stop the backslide: https://la.eater.com/2025/6/5/24443824/chef-sean-brock-opening-west-hollywood-restaurant-darling
I bought tickets for that night, I'll be on the floor. If you are there, shoot me a DM. Me and a buddy will be drinking in Old Town Pasadena for a while then going to the show
im not normal and I will definitely try to put it in your butt after a few beers so I’ll be sliding into your DMs
lets link up for sure, had the same plan. Going Saturday with wife and british ppl, but she understandably bailed on Sunday so figuring out alternative plans. I will have my Bully with me (not at the show)
Going to tell my buddy that I need an internet friend to possibly slide in my butt / DMs and looking forward to his reaction
My plan is to drink a lot of beers before the show then find some miracle way home from the Rose Bowl that doesn't involve driving with 0.2 BAC or walking 3 miles to Uber
I'll be at the Rose Bowl and Saturday night. Taking my brother and planning to meet up with a few other friends, but always down for a beer with a TMBer if it works out.
MLS or Eathan Edwards (if he still posts) tell me about Bacari and/or their group as they are taking over the space for Michael’s on Naples in Long Beach.
Good not great Mediterranean fusion. Good menu layout for groups and all of the locations I've been to have really active outdoor areas with some of them having live music nights. This is the Silverlake location (used to be Cliff's Edge)
The reporting is all over the place, but they've arrested a suspect who allegedly, deliberately started the Palisades fire https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-10-08/palisades-fire-arrest
So many damn mosquitos biting my ankles in the yard for the last 2 months. Seems to be letting up in last week or two but never remember this being an issue like this in the past.
