Bret started out at Michigan State. We played Mission a few times when I was in HS and they beat the fuck out of us every time. Powdrell, Robby Dubois, Jordan Palmer, Marty Tadman among others were on those teams and all played D1. On another note Brock is such a douchey name
Bret transferred to Michigan State from UCLA after he was the starter following Aikman as a RSFR. This was a pretty good walk down memory lane: http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19910512&slug=1282757
Pulling for San Marino, my cousin coached on that staff for a couple seasons a few years back. Starting to look like Central Catholic is too strong, though. 28-14 CC early in the third.
Yeah Bret left UCLA for East Lansing. Apparently big falling out with the family and UCLA, hence Rob going to SC.
I remember him saying something like he'd pay UCLA back for how his brother was treated. He never beat us.
Some of those losses were comically bad too at the end. I'll never forgive him for that pick on the goal line.
Lived in the Midwest up until 4 years ago, extreme weather never phased me. The last two mornings on my commute on the 110/105/405 I've been thinking how insane it is people are going to work in this. I've gone soft.
I remember visiting my grandparents in Glendale one year when a house slid down the mountain. loudest noise I ever heard other than a tornado or hurricane . and driving into the bowl in la . smog makes your eyes burn . still best thing about so-cal for me was the annual trip to knottsberry farms. edit add on : have relatives in palm springs - bubba kush land.
Went to get coffee this AM and saw some guy paddle boarding (not stand up) and then jumped in the water That's fucking nasty jumping in the water after a storm like we've had the last few days and all of the run off from the LA River and it subsidiaries.
so ive got like two days in san diego coming up. nights are probably taken care of so from morning until 5-6. what should i/we do?
i dont care all that much about the beach, as i spend a lot of time at the beach as is. probably check it out briefly but i dont want to make a whole day out of it.
Find a bar on the beach and watch the sun go down over the ocean. It sounds corny and touristy, but it's actually pretty cool. And it's not something you can really do on the East Coast.
Fun night last night. Got home from work around 9 pm, buddy texted me around 9:30 pm that a pretty reliable source told him Chris Rock would be testing out his Oscar material at the Comedy Store around 10:30. Got changed and left almost immediately (live close by) and we got there around 10 pm. Saw Bobby Lee from MadTV and Chris Delia do sets and then Chris Rock came on and performed for about 15-20 minutes with his writers in the back giving him queues and notes when he missed certain punchlines. Really funny overall and kind of crazy we were like 10 feet from him performing in a room that small. Stuck around for a bit and was back at my place around midnight.

Alright SoCal guys, got word from work that I may be getting placed on a project Orange County (client appears to be in Santa Ana/Tustin/Irvine area based on a google search) beginning in April and could be on it until the end of May. Looking for some recommendations. I am already thinking of staying out there for 2 or 3 weekends. I feel like there is a hell of a lot I could do or see. Thinking a weekend trip down to SD/Tijuana, another weekend of exploring the Pacific Coast Hwy, and then maybe a weekend checking out some outdoor hiking possibilities are all things I want to do at the very least. If any of you guys can lend a hand that would be awesome. Breweries/restaurants/outdoor activities suggestions all welcomed
Just say no to TJ. I live in Costa Mesa and work in Tustin. Here are some recs: Outdoor/hiking: Crystal Cove http://www.crystalcovestatepark.org/hiking/ Newport Peninsula http://www.visitnewportbeach.com/vacations/balboa-peninsula/ *There is a boardwalk along the penninsula that a lot of people bike/jog on. Also a walk around Balboa Island is nice. Breweries Beachwood (Long Beach/Seal Beach but worth the drive) Bottle Logic Bruery Noble Ale Works Restaurants Tons - depends on where you stay. Laguna Beach has great restaurants. Downtown Santa Ana has some good hipster spots.
Can't forget to grab a Balboa Bar or Banana on Balboa. Also to clarify for gator guy Beachwood's brewery is in Long Beach and they also have a sour/wild brewery next door open on the weekends. Seal Beach is a restaurant and has 4-6 Beachwood beers on tap plus a bunch of other good beers. The locations are about 15 minutes apart. I live betwee the two
So I'll definitely be in town the weekend of Apr 8-10. Current plan is something like this, but it's still way up in the air. Leave Santa Ana on Friday after work and drive to Long Beach to hit Beachwood. Currently eyeing some places to stay in Venice Beach, so that is where I'm planning to stay Friday and Saturday nights. Have a friend who lives in LA so may try to meet up with her for dinner or drinks one of those nights. Plan to just walk around Venice Beach and probably Santa Monica for some people watching and sun Saturday morning. If in Venice, this deli Gjusta looks like the bomb for lunch. Take a drive up the Pacific Coast Hwy to Malibu. Really would like to check out El Matador Beach out there. Come back into town and find somewhere for dinner. Sunday wake up and check out Griffith Park for some hiking/sightseeing. Maybe try and hit a good lunch spot and then a brewery for the afternoon day drinking either around LA or begin to head back to OC for that. Will be back in the hotel in Costa Mesa for Sunday night so I'll hit up one of the many restaurants I've already marked down there. Am I doing this right? Also if any of you bastards are around then I'd be happy to meet up for a drink.
Sounds like a good time. Also sounds like quite a bit of driving, but I assume you are prepared for that.
Yeah totally prepared for it. Kind of built that expectation in so that I can actually see a bunch of stuff. I'm banking on using my week nights in OC to check out some restaurants around there, so might as well venture out of the area when I can
Venice is awesome. Abbott Kinny is probably the coolest street in LA IMO. Where are you staying in Costa Mesa? Near South Coast plaza?
Will do. Might be Sunday afternoon instead of Friday afternoon now. Need to check in to my Airbnb place in Venice Beach by 6:30 on Friday before the guy goes to work. I'll let ya know.
Guys that are out there this week are at like Residence Inn Costa Mesa/Newport Beach off Baker St, so looks like just south of South Coast Plaza. However, they told me today the hotel itself was kind of shitty so they are trying to work with our travel booking company to get a better deal somewhere else. Think they are looking at Courtyard Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley off of Slater Ave for next week now.
Sounds good. Beachwood Blendery (their sour program) is open on the weekends and just saw that they are doing a release on Saturday, so they may have some bottles leftover that you could snag. Unfortunately there is nothing really cool over by the Courtyard. There is an Irish pub that I've been to once that's within walking distance. The good news is that you are right by the 405 or surface streets to some good spots. SoCo/The Mix has some good restaurants there and it's less than 10 mins from there. South Coast Plaza is a few mins past that and will probably have some good restaurants in that area that you would be interested in. The Beach is a straight shot down Brookhurst. I'm from Huntington, so let me know if you have any questions. What restaurants are you looking at going to?
For what it's worth, me and a couple friends tried to go to Griffith Observatory Sunday afternoon around 1-2 PM a couple weekends ago and parking was so overflooded and crazy, we circled around for a bit and just headed back home. Not sure if you want to do the Observatory or the hiking / old zoo area, but would recommend going as early as possible. Angel City Brewery is cool and downtown. I guess you could hop on the 5 to get to Costa Mesa after sobering up if that's the one you choose http://angelcitybrewery.com/
Also Runyon Canyon is now closed, so sorry Gatorguy won't be able to get the cliche LA pics that you can post to snapchat, FB, Instagram.
