was the cocktail list still good at SOCIAL? I heard they got rid of their Head Bartender and Chef. We went there about a year ago and it was really good. I like the style of that place. Going to see live music tonight at a place called the Constellation Room.....My neighbor has been bugging me to go out with him to see some music so we are seeing a band called "Wild Nothing."
Cool. I'll be heading there Saturday for the noon release, so if you are around and up there let me know.
The tequila drink I had was solid. A couple of the other guys each got a smoky old fashion (think it was called the gunslinger or gunshow or something) and they thought it was great. Definitely enjoyed the style of the place. The brussels side dish was fantastic. They had a lamb agnolotti special, which I thought was great, but holy shit it was so tiny and I imagine they had to be charging $22-25 for it. Came out and the four of us were like, da fuq is this. Overall everything we ordered was good to great.
Digging Pono Burger. Waiting for food to confirm deliciousness. Just really like Santa Monica in general. Nice little drive down the PCH this afternoon. Saw a bunch of whales that must be migrating. Pretty fucking cool.
Do I need to rent a car or can I just Uber/Lyft around LA? Staying on Venice Beach, but not sure where I'll be venturing out (suggestions welcome).
Based on my experience from staying in Venice a couple weekends ago, traffic sucks on the 10 going to and from Venice and LA, depending on time of day, so factor that into Uber/Lyft costs. If in Venice, go to Gjusta. You will be pleased.
I hate it and I don't even live here. Not a fan of the general type of music they promote there. Not saying that I don't enjoy some of the bands/musicians they have slated there this year, but overall it's not really my scene.
I'm too old for it and have only been once. Was enough for me. Although, if I could go back 10 years to see daft punk, I'd sacrifice Daniel Ocean to do it
Sometimes, I just walk in to use the bathroom and scope the women. Not creeper or anything, I just like to look
I've grown to hate it. I've been offered to go many times and never took up the offer. Im sure its a fun experience. But the people here get so fucking gungho about it. Im just getting too old for that kind of shit.
went to ARC last night at SOCO GatorGuy822 - highly recommend it. They changed their pricing to include tip which is a little weird. Drinks and food were 5 stars.
A step ahead of you. Team went there maybe a couple weeks ago. It was really good. We ended up getting the tomahawk steak ($175) to split amongst the 5 of us, plus a ton of other food. One of the best wedge salads I think I have ever eaten in my life. It was absurdly good.
Not yet, but it is right up there as a place I want to hit. We've just had some odd work hours some days. Literally staying at the client until like 9 so by then I don't even want to try and find anywhere. I just want to get back to sleep. The next chance I have I am suggesting that or just going solo if I can dip out before 8.
Nice. I definitely enjoyed the food, we had the queso fundido, a sous vide egg dish, a pepper dip that was amazing and a few others.
Any recommendations for Encinitas? My wife, dog and I are driving there Thursday morning for a long weekend. I have the beer covered, mostly looking for any go-to restaurants.
Lofty coffee is really good and I think I went to a restaurant that was pretty good. I'll look around....might have been Oceanside.
Heard there was a Great White attack in Newport at Big Corona beach I'm in Balboa and saw a bunch of helicopters and wouldn't have guessed it was for a shark attack.
So this happened by my work, building blew up in Maywood. Saw some big ass flames driving in to work this am. I pretty much drive by that building every day as it's my usual route to and from the freeway, obviously not today. Here's the explosion https://amp.twimg.com/v/c06ebfdb-b4e3-40d3-b570-f5d94938e79c http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/06/14/maywood-explosions-fire/
Flying into LA in a few weeks for a short vacation/visit with friends and was looking for some recommendations for sightseeing/food/drinks. We'll actually be staying out in Pasadena and we'll be relying on either uber/lyft or the person we're staying with for rides anywhere so I'd like to try and find some things that are relatively close to Pasadena. I couldn't care less about the real touristy places like the walk of fame, rodeo drive, and the movie studios but would rather spend my time checking out cool/creepy historical site and maybe some nature/hiking trails or a nice beach. As far as food/drinks I'm just looking for some chill spots with good food and atmosphere but nothing too fancy. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
Johnny Utah, Pasadena's got some really great food/ hiking spots. Food wise I would suggest King's Row Pub, one of those rare places that serves great food and drinks for relatively cheap. On the nicer end of the spectrum there's Cafe Bizou, it's more like a restaurant, but it's got $2 corkage fee so bring some wine and get drunk. Hiking wise you could hit up the Arroyo Seco trail, it goes right past JPL and into the mountains. There's not a lot of elevation change, but there's a nice waterfall at the end of it. If whoever is driving you is willing, I would also go up into Angeles National Forest and fuck around. It's not too far from Pasadena. Oh and hit up Lucky Boy for the breakfast burrito.
The Fish Fire. Appropriately named, I guess. My girl's father lives in the foothills of Monrovia so he's nervous.
I haven't watched any news but I saw the big cloud of smoke when I was leaving work today. I was up in a big parking structure so I had a pretty good view.
Grew up on the peninsula, and it always amazed me the stupidity of people every time the wedge had a big swell.
It would suck to live in the war zone with no parking. Impossible to find a spot. Farther down toward the wedge, traffic is bad.
My works sending me to San Diego with a friend for four days in July. I'm staying at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Any recommendations on stuff to do would be greatly appreciated.
