Sounds about right. I burned up those Strurgill Simpson bluegrass albums for several months straight and still high in the rotation.
Kicking off my holiday vacation with Goosemas next weekend. These Orebolo (formally aGoosetic) shoes are money. Some of them are up on nugs now. Acoustic Creatures, Elmeg, and Seekers are probably my favorites. I have got to catch one of these shows and will probably do Fred Fest next year.
If you haven't watched the acoustic set from Clifford Ball and are reading this, you should probably go watch that.
Let me state that for the record, everything leading up to it is A+ and should be watched. Squirming Coil starts at about the 2 hour 5 minute mark, then they go acoustic
Easily the best jamgrass out there. I haven’t been able to catch them this year, but caught two multi-night runs pre pandemic. Billy is obviously great, but as a mandolin player I’m also constantly floored by Jarrod Walker. He is really good at this style and traditional bluegrass. There’s a lot of Billy Strings jams where I hear early 2000’s String Cheese. Kindof obvious, but that driving jamgrass beat with acoustic and mando, then layering some psychedelia over the top.
Did any of y'all catch moe. either of the past two nights? Curious how they sounded with the guest guitarists.
That was the one I really wanted to hear. A buddy of mine said Warren Haynes was solid with them as well.
Billy Strings reminds me of my early Cheese days 99-02 when I saw them a ton.. Just taking off and firing on all cylinders. Speaking of their cover of Black Clouds the other night was really good. Can’t wait to see where music goes. Have a feeling it’s going to keep growing and expanding to some great places. Also playing it in AtL was cool. Greatest Black Clouds Cheese did was November 2000 in Atlanta. Second favorite SCI show I ever made. Cover was appropriate for place and time. Tony Furtado sits in on banjo. Him and Kang blow the roof off with his banjo into the guitar solo.

Were/are any of you Yonder Mountain String Band fans? They were the first to pull me deep into jamgrass years ago. They were not the same band after Jeff Austin split away, but still very enjoyable to see and still catch them when they are close. New mandolin player is pretty good but they added a fiddle player that basically steals the show now. Jeff was one of the reasons I wanted to learn mandolin. I got to catch a night of The Grateful Ball tour a couple years ago with the Jeff Austin Band and the Traveling McCourys where they each played a set then came out together for a 3rd set of Dead tunes. Good stuff. Jeff died like 5 months later so thankful I was able to see him again.
For sure. Still dabble to them sometimes. Keep on going>legalize it> Keep on going is good stuff. Love Snow on The Pines too
Hell yeah. Besides Phish they are probably still the band I’ve seen the 2nd most, and all but 4 of them were pre split. Saw them one year at the Tabernacle in Atl with Futureman from the Flecktones of all people on a small drum kit. Had never heard them with drums before that. High on a Hilltop. Rambler’s Anthem. If There’s Still Rambling in the Rambler. Half Moon Rising. On The Run. New Horizons. A Fathers Arms. Two Hits and the Joint Turned Brown. Peace of Mind. All that old stuff is awesome. They were able to jam bluegrass using very little if any effects, etc. Just plug their instruments in and go to town.
Might as well post the keep on going legalize it sandwich too. They hit some beautiful notes in the middle and totally shut the audience up. Love it when that happens
