Happy 25th anniversary to what I think is the most underrated Ghost of all time. I don’t see it mentioned with the goats nearly as much as it should be. https://phish.in/1999-09-12
Back at The Outpost at New River Gorge. For Daniel Donato this time. Place is incredible. Various levels of cabin, rv, and tent sites all around the venue. Last time we were front and center of the venue in a tent site, but this time a little to the left with an electric tent site. 4 of our group of 6 have chickened out on rafting the big boy river and are doing zip lining instead. Down to me and my friend Josh.
Man I love Cosmic Country. They’ve gone from sometimes timid and harsh vocals to passing lead around between all 4 of them and holding white boy country church. That Sugarlegg tune Edge of The Mountain is great. That followed by Down By The Riverside was nice.
I slept through 7a, 7:15a, and 7:30a alarms somehow and calls from my friend. Woke up at 7:45 hearing his voice outside the tent saying are you awake?. Rafting was 10 min away with 8:05 start. I got up from where I passed out fully dressed on my cot, put on my keens, took a shit, and got in the truck with the same clothes on. We made it after the safety meeting with barely a minute to spare. The rapids were wild. https://adventuresonthegorge.com/whitewater-rafting-overview/upper-gauley-river-whitewater-rafting/ I got thrown out in the middle of a Class V called Pillow Rock. It was like a whirlpool that kept swirling me all around, nearly surfaced me and then pulled me back under for another ride. Was maybe 20-25 sec but it felt like eternity. Then there’s a rock in another V called Postage Due that little rafts were getting on top of and stacking them up to party and watch the carnage. Well we inadvertently stamped our 16 foot raft to the side rock completely sideways. Two got thrown right away, the other 5 of us were hanging on the boat. I was on the bottom hanging on for life and the last one in the boat. The boat almost got corrected with me riding off alone but it was pushed back into the rock and I finally climbed/was pulled onto the rock and the boat got up after me. Fucking ready to do that again.
Seems like a good way to contribute to the cause. Get 10 hours of music from lots of bands. That show is already out there on Live Phish, would have been cool to see an unreleased song from the archives but oh well.
No deff go, they are solid. I've been to 3 shows and went to Goosemas last year in Hampton w/ Bruce Hornsby sit in. All 3 solid, good jams. But crowd is very Gen Z “Juul bros” and like later-gen Phish fans who like being in early on a new band and are obnoxious about it
PrinceWimbley did you ever get the Sonos headphones? Countdown to Arc Ultra and Sub 4 burning a hole into my pocket. Time to start saving those cash back perks again. https://en.community.sonos.com/product-updates/sonos-reveals-arc-ultra-sub-4-6905696
They’re very jam band new money and think Goose has the most mind blowing improv every night (they don’t) I like goose though and will continue to go see em when they come to town
I did! Really enjoy them. They are very comfortable and sound is good to my ears. Noise cancelling is excellent. Functionality with the Arc is very useful for me watching tv late at night. Seem to hold a great charge as well.
Anyone fuck with Little Stranger? Not jam music but melodic hip hop. They opened for Frasco around here before and were pretty fun. Might make it to their show tonight for something different.
You report on the fans was correct. I know very few songs like probably less than 5 of theirs but still had a blast. Light show was nice too. They formed out some symbols has they did extra smoke machine that was real nice touch. They seem to play real tight together.
Late (and probably in the Dead thread but not sure) but RIP Phil 1. That is a funny exchange, especially when you see the judge giggling like "what are we doing here?" 2. How can someone's spoken voice be so soothing and singing voice be so... not? 3. Good thread from Mike and if you want more of this he talks Phil on the Under the Scales pod that was re-release pod from about a month ago (originally from 2019 with Marshall)
haven’t listened to goose since the switched drummers. Not any particular reason, just been liking other stuff better. Still jamming a lot of Eggy, loving some Houseplant too
I could be completely off base here, but Rick just seems so far ahead of everyone else in the band that they rely on him to drive everything forward Just results in the same jam with every song
Certainly grew stale to me. Rick is supremely talented for sure, but just lacks the creative jam after awhile. Eggy is trying all kinds of things and lots of works well. Really been enjoying Houseplant
Again, if you like type 2, you need to check Sqeaky Feet Umphrey’s in their prime-level guitar work. Best type 2 out there right now IMO. They get OUT there
What’s everyone doing for NYE? Thinking we will just stay in and watch a few streams. Have some Goose tickets I’m probably getting rid of. I’m sure I would have fun but saving that travel money and putting it towards an overland trailer I’m building.
can we talk about how crowd that shows up at a jamband show these days is like 80% dudes? Didn't use to be that way. Also, saw Goose last night in DC. Good show, had a great time.
Infamous Stringdusters are playing 30th and NYE in Richmond. I'd consider going b/c it's local, but they deff aren't like a must see for me
This and tonight is what I got rid of. Love The Anthem, not sure why I thought I would be driving to DC for Tues/Wed though
Thought about it but did that last year and wanted to do the Nashville run next year. If you rideshare to UNO walk far down the road to call your return ride. It’s impossible for them to get to the main pickup spot out front for a while post show.
that’s a dope lineup. I still enjoy Goose, but damn their fans have become insufferable. Would love to see all those others in one spot for sure though
My takeaway from the handful of Goose shows I’ve been too is an insanely pro-chomping bro crowd who don’t know how to handle their party favors plus of smattering of absurdly hot girls who are just there to dress up (or down) for the party.
I try not to let that stuff affect me, but it’s hard with them. The rail riders did it for me. Terrible for any act, but there’s a very vocal one I see around here at other shows. He was on a ton of their streams front and center and posting from venue lines at like 7:00am all the time before I muted him. Never fails he has on a Goose hat with 100 pins on it. They’re fun to see and throw on now and then, but they can’t keep my attention that long any more like they used to. I would probably have never gotten back into that type jam music and then eventually camped with Owsley at Mondegreen had I not randomly discovered them while being dragged to a Domefest though. So thanks Goose.
Yup. There was a post in a Goose FB page or some forum where the dude essentially was shouting out Goose for having the first fan created newspaper/setlist database website/etc. Just clueless that literally every other jam band also does those things
