Thinking of buying a condo in the near future and trying to determine between Tampa and St. Pete. Any idea or recommendations between the 2?
Depends on where in St Pete or Tampa, but can't really go wrong in either area. Downtown Tampa has come a long way in the last 5 years. Plus the surrounding areas (Hyde Park, Soho) and proximity to sports/entertainment and a great airport makes me prefer Tampa. Do an airbnb for a weekend in the areas your thinking of imo.
Honestly, if you are looking to buy I would wait. Inventory is low and everybody’s looking to buy right now. You are going to overpay.
Would def AirBnB it. Not sure how long I’m going to be in the area but I would like to keep the property regardless as an investment. And with Tampa being on the upswing, I don’t think I can go wrong. Looking at beginning of ‘22 to buy if I do.
Looks like it's gonna be a rough night ahead. All the recent rain isn't ideal and power outages are absolutely miserable.
really glad we left St. Augustine Beach yesterday instead of extending our stay to come home, as my wife was insistent she had to get home to work, at a job she has unlimited PTO from (which we one is a scam).
Getting as much work as I can done now in case we lose power. My let everyone work remotely today and I suspect the same thing will happen tomorrow.
This. Also, the ground is super soft right now due to the constant rain. I wouldn't fuck around under any large trees while the winds are up.
Tell her to charge her phone and anything else important before tonight, if she has a flashlight make sure she's got extra batteries.
Fortunately she is a planner thanks to some tornado experiences we have had here. When I called her she had already bought a flashlight and an external battery for her cell. Thanks for the info guys. Normally I don't worry about this kind of stuff but its hard for dad mode not to kick in.
Denis Phillips Quick Elsa Thoughts (Our continuous coverage starts at 3) 1. Elsa is now 10 mph stronger than it was earlier today. Recon found a small area with near hurricane-force winds, and the NHC acted accordingly and changed their advisories. This does NOT mean the storm will bring widespread hurricane conditions to the area. Here's what it DOES mean. A. The large area of tropical storm winds will affect our area this evening and overnight. B There could be a few small areas (along the coast where winds gusts could get from 70 to 75 mph. (Similar to Irma) C. Surge is still a big concern for coastal residents. Hopefully, you have already made plans to secure your home in case the water comes your way. D. We will be on air continuously starting at 3 and will be streaming out LIVE coverage at 6:30. E. Seasoned Floridians have gone through this drill. Prepare for some power outages. NEVER use a generator indoors or in the garage. The heaviest winds will probably last for about 4 or 5 hours this evening and overnight. F. Rule #7. Don't Freak out. NOW is the time to finish any preps you have. There's still a few hours. We're in for a stretch of squally, nasty weather tonight. But it's nothing we haven't seen before. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have, but I'll pretty much be on the air for 12 hours straight, so our feed will stream LIVE all night long. Hang in there. Rough night ahead (especially for the coast) but we got this.
We have a beach house Thursday-Saturday at Indian Rocks. Over/under 1% chance of getting this trip in?
Just got the first gusts of the day and rain started, I'm slightly south of Gandy. Was in the post above and probably preaching to the choir but please no one use a generator in a garage, it seemingly happens every time there's a widespread power outage and someone dies.
Backyard is still a mess due to the pool construction. Pumped as much water out of the pool as we could so that we can redirect water from the part of the yard that floods to it if we need to. Wish this thing was rolling through now versus the middle of the night.
I pumped out 6 inches or so. Hopefully that’s enough. Last big storm the water made it up to our porch. I’m 2 blocks south of Bay to Bay so hopefully we’ll be good.
First off, Denis Phillips is the best weatherman in Tampa. Second, cannonball party at Lawnole23 ’s house on Thursday to get all the Elsa wetness out of his pool.
Woah woah woah Paul Dellegatto >>>> that goofy ass suspender wearer. Phillips isn't even AMS certified
I like him because he’s not a doom and gloomer. He’s honest. Others are always trying to play it up for ratings.
Duval I’m in Sarasota for a wedding next weekend. Any recs on casual dinner spots downtown for Thursday and Friday?
Idk if anything downtown Sarasota is super classy but you have a number of good options Owen’s Fishcamp is some really good seafood, don’t do reservations so you gotta show up early Selva is a good latin cuisine spot, a bit on the fancier side Duval’s is also pretty good seafood
my favorite restaurant in Sarasota is called indigenous, but the only caveat is that they don’t serve liquor. Other good places - baker and wife, selva grill, Napule, darwins Peruvian eatery (he made the menu at selva), and Boca. happy to answer any questions you have.
owen’s is great, but the no reservation thing is annoying since that place gets packed. they made a nice outdoor area that you can order from too, which is nice.
Absolutely pouring in soho and mcdintons has some outside massive projection setup for the mcgregor fight.
It’s crazy how many more unique restaurants/bars there are in St Pete compared to Tampa. Seems like there is such an opportunity in Tampa for some new concepts to come in and catch on.
Is it that St Pete has that much more or that it's more centrally located? Downtown Tampa is pretty limited for unique restaurants, but Hyde Park, SoHo, and Seminole Heights all have good options a short drive away.
