Yep. Hope everything is back to full capacity by the time the 2021 NFL season starts. I think it will be.
I know all the people who cover and come to Super bowls and the CFP love Tampa and prefer it over Miami, but going to be hard to stay in rotation with LV and LA
Tampa won’t get another super bowl unless a new stadium is built or it’s another situation where the NFL needs a fill in.
Sadly we're maybe 10 years away from the Glazers holding the city hostage for a new stadium or something because they're fucking assholes. A sympathy Super Bowl for dealing with this shit in like 5 years would be great.
Think they settle in to a Miami, LA, Phoenix, Vegas, NOLA rotation? Also adding in any new stadiums like they've done in the past (ATL, Minnesota, Meadowlands, SF). Would Houston be in a rotation? Dallas seems too cold.
Houston is in there and that’s pretty much the rotation unless someone builds a new stadium or there’s another situation like this year.
Learned today my mom convinced your state she’s a somewhat resident(65+) and got her first covid shot a few weeks ago and 2nd next week. I’m happy, bit worried about her constant travel to St Pete to help with her grandkids
Hoping the Super Bowl isn't a superspreader event, the NFL thing downtown by the riverwalk looks fun but no thanks Did the NFL Experience thing with the drills and everything for the Ravens Giants one as a kid, great times
Yeah I did that too, went to something at Legends Field with my cousins where some no name players led some drills. It sucks hosting this year. In a normal year there'd be a ton going on, probably would've been out all weekend instead of just hanging out at home. Fuck covid.
Friend posted on Snapchat at WTR last night. A few Bucs players were there as was Lebron. Full capacity, no masks. let’s see how this plays out...
Wait what, guys who are gonna play today? I just assume Brady would legit try to kill them for going out the night before the Super Bowl. Definitely worried about covid spread with all the stuff I've seen going on
I didn’t recognize any of them (was also kinda far from them as they were in the VIP area) so maybe they are 3-4 string backups or they don’t know what they are talking about?
quick return from full time lurking . the events there had a symptom scanner and had antigen Covid tests to get in. still not 100% w no pcr but they at least attempted to be responsible
Outside of literally being cooked by the sun if you sit on the East side for a 1pm game, nothing. Wish we'd do what Miami did with their stadium. Also wish Tampa would invest heavily in transportation infrastructure to make the different entertainment/hospitality hubs easier to access without a car.
Had a random thought watching some media coverage of the upcoming Super Bowl parade today. I know we're probably nowhere near doing a new football stadium, BUT... Whenever that happens, I hope/wish we can find a way to swap locations with the Convention Center. Having the Convention Center where it is now is a complete waste of the best piece of commercial real estate in Tampa.
Really hope the Glazers don’t expect Hillsborough County to foot the bill again. Won’t be getting my vote for that.
Of course they will when the time comes for a new stadium. With LA and Vegas not available as leverage they won't have many cards to play so just hope their bluff gets called. The Convention Center in that location is absolutely nuts.
I don’t have blueprints to verify it but I can’t imagine the Convention Center and adjacent garage is a big enough footprint for a stadium.
Would probably need a creative design and more vertical seating due to the layout, but I think the space could be there. It'd be close. Car tailgating wouldn't really be an option anymore, but I'm sure more bars would open up in the area. Plus the trolley to/from Ybor.
That location isn’t good for a football stadium. There’s only 10 guaranteed home games a year. Plus football game day experience is tailgating better for a baseball stadium iyam
It's literally impossible there and it'll be more impossible after all the new stuff opens 5 minutes away.
A football stadium is far different than an arena or baseball stadium IMO. No one is building football stadiums downtown.
Thanks for raining on my parade :( I actually had the idea based on a convo I had with a developer friend recently who was telling me about a proposal a few years back to build the Rays stadium there. I guess the idea didn't get very far due to funding issues (seems to be a common theme with the Rays). I just want them to put something else there.
Speaking of the Rays, I guess I completely missed 7 proposals for redeveloping the Tropicana Field site that dropped a couple weeks back... Whoever made stadium renderings that have minimal shade coverage doesn't really seem to grasp FL weather from April-September. https://www.tampabay.com/news/busin...evelop-tropicana-field-site-in-st-petersburg/
My dads in commercial real estate financing and has ranted multiple times about the convention center being there. It can be a nice backdrop but that's about it. The main issue with the Rays is that taxpayers paid for 100% of Ray Jay's construction not too long ago (fuck the Glazers). Taxpayers aren't gonna pony up hundreds of millions to help out Sternberg who's worth almost a billion iirc.
