I wandered DT Tampa last night after the show. Stopped in at Hattricks. Damn shame you can go so many blocks without seeing a good restaurant/bar.
Hopefully that will change over the next decade. They are trying to develope the area into a more walkable true downtown
It really is a shame. It's pretty much just Hattricks and now Fergs I guess, and then nothing up until you get down to the Curtis Hixon/Sky point area
I'm back for my annual trip down to Tampa in a month for a meeting at CAMLS. Last time, we did Berns Steakhouse and it was glorious. this time I booked dinner at Mise En Place the night before our meeting. Did I do it right?
Jackson's if you want cheap but quality isn't great. Datz has a good one. What's the one by the hotel right before the bridge going over to Clearwater? Theres is great but $50 a person.
Just cruising around in Hyde Park last time, there appeared to be tons of places. Also, tell me of Hyde Park Cafe. Looks really trashy and slutty. I mean I'm down for a whole week this time, guys. I fully plan on testing that patio to see if I can take a girl back to my hotel, unless there are better options.
I used to go there every week in my younger days. It's $10 all you can drink between 8 and 10 on Friday nights. Sluts everywhere. They also do a Latin night on Wednesdays iirc.
I haven't been because I literally don't leave my neighborhood unless it's to go to work, but I hear Pinky's is a good brunch.
Whenever we went to the beach in FL as a kid it was always Vero Beach, Destin or St George Island Aside from the aforementioned ones, yall have any beaches to recommend that might be off the radar a bit but within a couple hours of Tally?
Mis en Place is a great restaurant. One of the best in Tampa. Datz brunch is what I would recommend. South Howard has a ton of bars that you can bar hop. Macdintons, World of Beer, Cheap, Drynk, etc.
So im going to have like 5 free days in between meetings. What's the best beach to go to? Any other activity suggestions?
Some museums, Busch gardens amusement park. Baseball fan? Not that it's worth a damn, but I guess you could check out where the Rays play, I.e. St. Petersburg. Great downtown. Some good beach bars. Bias: Further drive for a nice beach and an old Florida vibe would be Anna Maria Island. I can set you up on a fishing charter here.
Anna Maria is definitely more of a Florida beach if that makes any sense. It's about an hour drive from downtown Tampa though.
Do you wanna go for booze and all the whores? Then go to St Pete beach and start at Post Card Inn and go from there. As for bars, best chances to snag something will be macdintons, yard of ale, and dubliner. Lodge and Cheap are a bit more club type and Drynk is 100% club. Soho tavern is a dive bar and then there is my personal favorite, Soho Saloon. All these places are within walking distance of each other. With the Stanley Cup this week, Fergs Live downtown and channelside will be packed on game nights.
Don't know if you still need an answer, but The Refinery, Ella's, Oxford exchange, pinkys, and datz are all good.
brutal loss last night sitting back and trying to protect a 1-0 lead vs the hawks is just an awful idea. the triplets looked off all night outside those first 10 minutes. oh well, we were never leaving tampa with a 2-0 series lead so just need to respond to the game 1 loss like we did vs detriot and NYR. anyone going to the game on saturday?
I made it. Picked my kid up on Swann then went Macdill to Bay to Bay and avoided all the flooding. Manhattan and Dale Mabry were a disaster.
If the public schools in Carrolwood weren't steaming piles of shit, I'd consider moving there. Parts of it are really great.
My gf's first comment when I got home was, "if we lived in Carolwood, we wouldn't have to deal with these flooded streets". Id rather deal with the flooded streets and spend 10 minutes a day in my car versus 80, thank you.
Agree but Carrollwood Elementary is pretty good. The junior high's are dicey but we would likely then either go private at Carrollwood Day School or use in-laws address in South Tampa.
Took me an hour and fifty minutes to get over the Howard Frankland to south Tampa yesterday. Just my commute. Curtis Hixon was pretty fun for the game on Monday. Surprised they put on a firework show after the win. Wonder how the new place they are renovating on Howard is going to be. On the right side just a little south of Kennedy. Believe it's going to be called Cask. That location has already changed twice since my 2+ years here. Also wonder what's going to happen with the BBQ place, Ribbits, on the corner of Howard and Azeele. Looks like they still own the property as it has a lease sign in the window. Originally heard Taco Bus was coming in, then rumors the CRG guys were coming in. That would be their 6th restaurant on Howard so please no.
What did Cask used to be? Kinda sad Ribbits closed, that was my BBQ spot when we lived in Hyde Park. Taco Bus going there would make sense.
