Heading down tomorrow afternoon, will be in town until the 2nd. Group of 4 of us, staying with one of our buddies who lives in South Tampa. I've been to Tampa a few times, so have a general idea of the spots, but I'm a little worried about about NYE plans tbh. Not really trying to do anything formal, and I'm sure the bars are going to be packed. We're all mid-20's, so definitely wanting to go out and do something. Any thoughts?
Any/all of the bars on Howard will be packed but fun. I’ve done New Years at MacDintons and it’s a shit show, but a good time.
I've also done NYE at MacDintons and agree with Boo. When we've gone, we've tried to get there early and locked down some tables. Anywhere on Howard will get crowded fairly quickly so bar hopping can be difficult. Yard of Ale (right across the street) might be another viable option.
Saloon, Yard, and Mcdintons will all be a shitshow. Still a good time just get there realtively early to avoid awful lines.
You can come over to my house and sit on my back patio with me and my wife if you want. We’re going to drink a shitload of red wine and watch a bunch of episodes of The Office.
2 words, 1 location... Pete's Place. The hidden gym of South Tampa. If you do Howard, Yard of Ale is usually a solid option. For whatever reason, it always seems to take longer to fill up, so as long as you're not waiting till 11, you should be able to find
I will be in your town Saturday. Only plans are the Outback Bowl, gambling, and checking out the beer scene. The Dali museum in St Pete looks pretty cool as well. Can I get some beer recs other than Cigar City? Traveling with my dog, she'd appreciate any dog friendly bar recs
As someone who has taken part in not 1, but 2 New Years Eves at Pete's Place, I can confirm that there is indeed karaoke. Queen Bee was present both times.
Pretty much anywhere you go (bar/brewery wise) in Dunedin and downtown St. Pete is dog friendly. Dunedin Brewery the best wings in the area and passable beer. 7venth Sun and multiple other breweries and bars are less than a quarter mile walk. Cycle and Green Bench are my preferred breweries for St Pete. Tons of other brewery, bar, and restaurant options down there as well
Hmmm ok staying in a couple bnbs in Bayshore then near Ybor/Seminole Heights. The city is more spread out than I anticipated, but there is a Dog Bar in St Pete that I'm definitely gonna check out. It's actually a franchise from a location here in Charlotte. Will have to be mindful and not get too shitty I guess. Perhaps find a cool uber driver ...
Arkane Aleworks. Angry Chair is a good one. Maybe Hidden Springs. I'm not the biggest fan of Cigar City, Coppetail or Green Bench. Haven't been to 7venth Sun or Cycle but have heard decent-to-good things about their beer. If you like obscure German styles of beer, Rapp would be a place to check out. They have "normal" styles as well. Breweries are usually dog friendly.
Same in Charlotte. Basically if there's no kitchen (which most of our breweries don't do) dogs are welcome in the tap room
Joe Louis in St. Pete you'll want to hit up Cycle (good IPAs and BA stouts if still on tap) and Green Bench (good sours and saisons). In Tampa, Cigar City has bottles of their membership club sitting around. It's very touristy now but worth a trip because it's close to the stadium. If you have an evening go to Angry Chair in Seminole Heights and go to Chop Chop Shop for some good Korean Food afterwards. Then hit up Garagiste just south of there close to downtown. It's a meadery which won best "beer" and best "brewery" at Hunahpu's Day last year which is a pretty big deal.
One place to avoid is Franklin Manor unless they know how to deal with being crowded on a holiday. I went there for St. Patty's day to meet some friends, a few of us went inside to use the bathroom and they refused to let us or anyone else back outside because they were overcapacity. We told the guy we were getting ready to leave anyway and all of our cards were at the bar, we just wanted to pay our tabs and go. He told us tough shit and we'd have to go wait in line again(which was probably a 20 minute wait) to get back to the outside area. One of my buddies knew a promoter/manager and after about 5 minutes he found us inside and let us back out there so we could cash out. It was so fucking stupid.
Franklin major is not enjoyable ever imo. Sure the scenary is good, but place sucks Don't drink and drive. Especially this wknd Green bench is the best brewery in St Pete. Cycle is awesome as well. 3 daughters is decent but more of a hang out brewery (love bands, games, dogs etc). I'd recommend checking out locale market for some grub in DTSP. Angry chair is my favorite brewery. I may be biased because it's a 5 minute walk, but it is great. The new 7eventh Sun is solid as well I've been to pretty much every brewery on both side of the bay, and most bars so just ask and I probably can tell you about it
For our friends from Michigan and South Carolina interested in a hidden gem that the locals rave about, I’d suggest the Cheesecake Factory at International Plaza and Bay Street.
Lovely run with my dog on Bayshore Dr this AM. Down a bit on my first excursion to the casino but that's ok. Sitting down for a meal at Haven in SoHo, first course was excellent
Two dog parks and lengthy run around Tampa/Seminole Heights today. Had a couple flights at Hidden Springs Ale Works. Other than the weather good vibes in Tampa
Was in town recently and had that on tap at a Hyde Park restaurant. Delicious. Tampa’s beer scene is impressive.
If you’re in Tampa again head over to Angry Chair. Two pump chump is one of their worst beers IMO and it’s still good.
Today is my last day as a Tampa resident. Y’all have an awesome city, the best, non vacation, city in FL IMO. If anyone wants to buy a house, let me know.
Took a job in Memphis, where my wife is from and already barred. More of a family decision than anything else. 2 kids under 2, and me working 12 hour shifts with 6 months on nights just wasn’t conducive to the family life I need right now.
TY. When I was there I asked where the brewery was and they said it was in the serial killer’s neighborhood, so I passed. Loved that hazelnut flavor.
