Kvitova-Kerber tonight/tomorrow morning in Sydney. That'll be fun.
Andreescu got through her first qualifier match.
FAA vs. Eubanks to open the night day of qualifying at 6pm ET
Kvitova looks skinny as shit. Kind of reminds of what Novak looked like when he came back.
Delpo to play Del Ray Beach as his first tournament of the year.
same as Svitolina, way too damn skinny
Ill be there!
Im not going to lie. Its so nice having a 250 tournament literally 5 miles from my place.
So far they have: Del Potro, Anderson, Raonic, Kyrgios, Tiafoe.
Pretty good tennis for cheap. Nice arena as well
Yeah I remember her being that skinny last year. I think Kvitova looked normal just a few months ago.
I think this is a great hire!
also, this is awesome
He's playing a doubles event with James Blake in Newport Beach or something. My brother in law got tickets but sucks that we'll be back home.
Afraid Andy is toast, unfortunately. Really sad.
Where is this happening?
Practice match in Melbourne. The Aussie changed the rules this year so fans are allowed to watch scheduled practice matches, which is pretty cool. I looked around a bit for video but didn't see anything.
Fritz, woof. Isner, woofier.
Ha ha ha... Tomic got Cilic in the first round. Good luck with that, you useless git.
R1: Tatiana Maria
Other R1 popcorn matches: Sakkari-Ostapenko, Halep-Kanepi, Wawrinka-Gulbis, Keys-Aiava, Bencic-Sinakova,
R4: Goerges/Caro Garcia
R4: Tsitsipas (!)/Basilashvili
R2: Tsonga (!)
If Rafa is healthy, this draw is pretty open.
R3: De Minaur
BTW what a fantastic match right now. Simon/Millman
Winner of that match gets Wawrinka/Gulbis winner. What a fucking brutal part of the draw
Wtf kinda draw is that!!!
Wertheim's Seed Report
First-round “Bangers,” as the kids call them. For the rest of us, first-round matches to watch:
Raonic vs. Kyrgios: For the latter, this is what happens when you don’t have a top-32 ranking.
Cilic vs. Tomic: What’s the opposite of home cooking?
Thiem vs. Paire: Over five sets, Thiem should prevail. But he’ll likely have to work for it.
Bautista Agut vs. Murray: Last week, RBA beat the current No. 1. Next week he can beat a former No. 1.
Djokovic vs. Tsonga: Not until the second round, but a likely repeat of the 2008 final (won by Novak).
Isner vs. Opelka: Almost 14 feet of tennis.
Tomas Berdych d. Kyle Edmund
Bob and Mike Bryan: the Peaches & Herb Reunited special
Semis: Djokovic d. Thiem, Federer d. Anderson
Final: Djokovic d. Federer
First-round matches to watch:
Halep vs. Kanepi: No way Halep loses in consecutive Slams to Kanepi in round one. Is there?
Venus vs. Mihaela Buzarnescu: Go by the ranking and the Romanian, the 25thseed, is the favorite.
Ostapenko vs. Maria Sakkari: Rough start for both
Donna Vekic vs. Kristina Mladenovic: Vekic now among the seeds; Mladenovic—two years removed from the top 10—is not.
Stephens vs. Taylor Townsend: If TT catches SS on an off-day, this could be interesting.
Serena v. Bouchard: A likely second-rounder.
Riske d. Kiki Bertens
Doubles winner: Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic successfully defend their title repeat
Semis: Svitolina d. Pliskova, Sabalenka d. Kerber
Finals: Sabalenka d. Svitolina
He picked Sabalenka? Wow.
Women are crazy.
Yeah, that's just stoopid.
Edit: And let me just clarify this - it's not that I don't think she's a good player. It's just that the Aust Open is not traditionally the place where a female player on the rise takes that next big step and wins a major out of nowhere. I expect the winner to come from the likes of Kerber, Serena, Svitolina, Pliskova or maybe Osaka if she hits form.
He must be reading this thread and our love for Sabalenka
Fuck fuck fuck. This sucks so much.
I'll never forget I was in UK the week he got #1 rank. Guy I was working with kept asking me if I knew who Andy Murray was.
My sister got married in Scotland in early July 2012. Was taking a taxi with my family from Glasgow to Edinboro during the Wimbledon final and driver was going crazy the whole time.
Never really liked his style but good guy and country absolutely adores him.
The whole presser sounds heartbreaking. I'm not The biggest fan of his game but he's a class guy who's quite funny, in a self deprecating way at that and a genuinely nice guy asked on my friends interaction with him
I hate seeing these guys fade into oblivion. Really hope Fed/Nadal/Djokovic retire on top. Watching the likes of Murray/Ferrer just not have it sucks.
Got to post this to remember the pinnacle of his career
Think Andy’s career and his accomplishments are going to age quite well, especially given the era he played in. 3 Slams, 11 total Slam Finals, a Davis Cup title, 14 Masters titles, 2 Olympic Gold medals, a year-end number 1.
and this for me
Damn. Didn’t think he’d be the first of the big 4 to hang it up
Andreescu gets through the qualies. Hoping she can continue making a run in the main event now
Also the girl I was talking about in November got a WC in the Aussie. Osuigwe gets a qualifier in Round 1. If it’s andreescu I’m going to blow.
Would play Sevastova in round 2
