Not a single point lost by Djokovic on his service games.
Ive seen an extreme amount of their 53 meetings and its very difficult for me to say I've seen a better Novak
having said that, this isn't over and I still expect to see Nadal win a set at least. Rafa has gotten bageled in sets before and stormed out the next set I've seen that many times
I wish shared your optimism. As a Nadal fan it feels like being on the opposite end of Federer-Nadal at Roland Garros.
first 5 games was epic white hot Novak. The next 4 games Nadal was "in it" so to speak and got back to neutral on most points so its getting back to normal. These first few games in the 2nd set will tell an extreme amount
Novak is fucking everywhere. It's unbelievable.
Novak is great but this is so so poor from Nadal. Literally feels like he lost before the match even started.
Brutal from Rafa.
nah I know you are Nadal's #1 fan but most of this is Novak. He is just sublime right now
Almost anyone else, Djoker wouldn't even of lost a game yet
Nadal has been absolutely horrendous off the ground. So many Unforced Errors. 17 unforced errors to 4
I will never deny Novak’s greatness but cmon. Nadal is shanking half his balls. Novak’s causing this in the sense that’s Novak is in Nadal’s head before the match even starts.
Novak’s range is absolutely absurd.
Novak really is amazing though. Now that this match is over, do we think Novak catches Roger?
Easily. I think he might have a chance at a slam this year.
It's a scary thought, but yeah, why not? And that would be 6 in a row - unheard of!
So that makes potentially 18 in total. Things would have to continue to go right and the next gen would have to continue to flounder, but again, why not?
It’s all down to health. These guys simply are not wired to manage health in the fashion we’ve seen Roger employ the last two years.
Tsitsipas must be having serious nightmares after watching this. The guy who basically obliterated him in a match struggling like this.
It’s kind of crazy how healthy Novak has been considering the way he plays defense and slides around the court. It does feel like his body is perfect for tennis.
And that's the thing - Roger winning slams at nearly 37 is a freak of nature. We won't continue to see stuff like that, there's a reason why he's the GOAT.
So Djoker has a limited amount of time to win another 5 or god forbid 6. With his high intensity game, I think 33 is absolutely it for him which means 2, maybe 2 & 1/2 years. But in this kind of form, he does it IMO.
Hopefully Stefanos is off filming a Vlog somewhere instead of watching this, because you're absolutely right.
Man, Rafa is just playing shit. Clearly both Fed and Djoker own him mentally, at least on hardcourt.
Edit: Utter shit.
Djokovic is a great spot server but there is no way Nadal should have to resort to guessing where he’s going to serve.
Match has to go another hour from this point to even match the women's final in time on court.
Yeah but he missed out for a good amount of time because he thought he was doctor and didn’t listen to anyone. I understand it’s his body but only way he surpasses everyone is if he can manage that process well. Hes literally the only one in his way.
All the credit to Novak. He’s on another level. But Rafa is definitely off tonight. Novak in Rafa's head rent free
Good god. How does that even happen?
However, nice for the men to get equal pay for doing less work in the final for once...
What a level from Novak. And the opposite of that for Rafa.
Well that was quick.
Was it that bad guys? Looking at the numbers it looks brutal. Couldn’t find it on TV here in Dubai
Yeah wasn’t even close.
Oh, it was bad. I've never seen Rafa play so dumb.
If you need a comparison, just think of any match between Serena and Sharapova in the last 10 years. That's how not-close it was.
God damn. Novak’s a machine.
Just complete domination
You’ve gotta feel for Novak a bit even after the win. The crowd wasn’t favoring him again with seeming majority rooting for Rafa.
Have thought the same thing.
That was a bloodletting
Also guys, if you haven't been to Dubai. You must go. This place is absolutely amazing. I should have stayed longer as I only got 1 full day to sight see. Rest is at the trade show.
Damn just damn.
Crowds always hate djoker
Even worse than you think
Seeing Rafa that flustered and not being able to figure out any way to combat what Novak was throwing at him was truly amazing. Injuries are always a factor these days. But it's hard to believe that Novak doesnt at least win 2 of the next 3 majors
To be fair, though, that's on him. It's been a long road back from the days when he acted like a complete tool (there's one particular US Open that comes to mind) and absolutely copped it from those in attendance.
All credit to him for improving his behaviour since then. I, for one, don't dislike the guy anywhere near as much as I used to. And not everyone can be as naturally charismatic as the likes of Fed and Rafa - look at the way Murray was seen by many fans when he really didn't do much wrong on court at all.
However - and I nearly posted about it when I saw it last night - it doesn't help with the way he celebrates sometimes. The OTT screaming and yelling when he went back on court after the win was a bit much - I'd expect that of 21 year old Novak, not the 31 year old version. In my opinion, it's a lack of respect for your beaten opponent and it's just putting on a show for the sake of it. Be a good winner, a gracious winner, and don't rub it in people's faces so much. A little less of that kind of thing and maybe crowds wouldn't 'always hate Djoker' quite so much.
Well said paulski. Just to add to what you said I agree, and he is a gigantic douche. That said, not near the same level of dislike from my brain, much like you. At this point he’s so good, he’s transcended that for me. I try to just enjoy watching him at this point.
You’re gonna love Danielle Collins then. More like the opposite.
There are gigantic douches like Tomic, Fognini and then there’s Djokovic. I’m certain you’re being quite harsh on him.
Just being honest absolutely cannot stand the guy. Like Mustafi levels. I’ve come around quite a bit.
Don't get me wrong, I like characters in sport - Connors was a big favourite of mine in the 80's. And I like seeing people caught up in the emotion of winning a massive event. I just don't like it when they go over the top and put on a show for the benefit of no one but themselves. The real legends of the game don't need to do it.
Oh definitely. In most aspects of the game, Djoker has improved massively. I'll take him anyday over the likes of Tooltime Tomic or Kyrgios - his work ethic puts those clowns to shame.
I missed this during my travel. So some people that lost Week 1 in the Aussie ended up going to Newport Beach.
Andreescu won the tournament. She beat Genie 6-2 6-0 and then beating Tatjana Maria in the Semis.
This chick could be the real deal.
