Not being to bet on sports is driving me crazy here.

It also feels weird sitting at the bar and soccer and tennis are live at 6pm at night

No I Iove it. Been saying it for years.

Just wondering why it takes so long (I mean i know why.....). But damn, they've had coaching for regular tournaments over a decade now. Very frustrating

Okay the got Djokovic Nadal extended highlight. HOLY FUCK. He literally just whiffed on a forehand and missed the ball. Missing easy cross court era WTF

He was hitting his leg (near his knee) coming up for the forehand (which is why he whiffed)

I've never seen that in the 15 years I've been watching him and was stunning

I wanted to take some time to digest what happened and not get caught up in the moment, but I do think Nadal hurt himself a bit in the big3 goat discussion with that performance. He was basically humiliated in front of millions of viewers after looking unbeatable the previous two weeks (I had him in 4). Even tho mental toughness has always been his strength, he just didn’t seem like he had his mental house in order from the get-go. Looking ahead, RG is a must win. If Novak somehow wins there or Wim I think he leaps Rafa for that No.2 spot.

From a historical perspective, isn’t it nuts how much tennis history has changed in the last two years? Rafa was seemingly poised to snatch Fed’s crown in that 17 final, and now he’s basically fighting for his life to keep Novak at bay. Australia has certainly not been kind to the Spaniard...

IMO it’s obvious that Rafa is the GOAT in tennis when it comes to just 1 service. However he’s not close to to Fed or Djokovic in terms of all time

I agree with you, but whichever of the 3 finishes with the highest slam count will have bragging rights over the other two in the minds of most fans—the nuances of their careers will matter less as time goes on (same reason Serena chases #25). Not saying it’s right, but that’s the world we live in.

Had Nadal picked up #18 against a big3 rival at a non-FO and a likely #19 in June, it would’ve done two things, imo:

    1) All but eliminated Novak from the slam chase. He’d be 5 behind Nadal and 6 behind Fed. That many slams is a HOF career by itself.
    2) All but guaranteed that Nadal would’ve caught Fed after a few more RGs, giving his stans the “21>20” talking point for the next couple of decades (I’m assuming Fed is prob done, would love to be wrong).

We’ll definitely be telling our grandkids about this one day...

Yeah, when 11 of your 17 majors are on clay at the one event, it's pretty disproportionate. Just one AO and two Wimbledons in all that time which surprises me.

Meanwhile Roger is 6-1-8-5 and Djoker is 7-1-4-3. Yes, you can mention that both only have the one French Open each, but it's still one more than Murray, McEnroe, Sampras, Becker, Edberg or Connors ever won. And I still have Rafa way ahead of Djoker in 2nd place when it comes to GOAT talk, but that could well change by the end of the year or sooner.

Discrediting Rafa’s greatness because he only won 6 slams not-on-clay in the Golden Age of tennis seems a bit bold.

He had 7 runners up (plus 1 to Stan who will be remembered as not shabby himself) to Novak and Federer. Its not like he would fizzle in the R16 like a Sampras on Clay. It was the hardest era to ever win Slams in, and he has done it 17 damn times.

Saying Novak is now surging past him makes total sense. Saying Rafa is no longer worthy of being mentioned as a Big 3 is a big leap out there.

yes should of been done immediately at the 2017 French Open. Now that he did not, he wasted 2 1/2 years in his prime (and it maybe longer than that) which he can never get back. Awful

yes just silly, he is still very much in the big 3 paulski and still has a real shot to break 20 majors. Doubt he ever wins Wimbledon again, but in the past 6 months at the last 2 hard court majors he is 11-2 and only lost 4 times total when he finished a match in 2018.

    1. Fed
    2A. Rafa
    2B. Novak

Novak is extremely close to Rafa at this moment and will most likely pass him by the end of this year, but Nadal is still #2 at this moment imo for many different reasons. We will have ample time to discuss this

Novak is the best ever. He’s had the hardest road to get his 15 grand slams.

its all relative. At the beginning of his career? Absolutely and cannot be argued. But he also benefits from his age. By the time Novak won his 2nd grand slam, Federer was turning 30 years old that year. Is 30 the same as turning 30 years old in the 80s like McEnroe and Connors? No, but 30 is still 30.

2011 Novak was 23 years old so I think we can say it was easier for Novak to play Federer in 2011 and beyond than it was for Rafa to play Roger when he was in his mid 20s and Rafa was 18 and 19 years old.

Could write for days about this

Yeah Federer was older but he still had to compete with Rafa and Murray both in their primes with an older Federer that was still at the top of his game.

He’s probably benefiting now but it’s amazing what he has accomplished.

Oh my God, light show, dancing Russians (fully choreographed) with flashing rackets, Boxing announcer voice in english, large worst looking mascot dog you could ever envision, NBA style light show run into the arena. I legit think Ostapenko almost lost it as she was being rotated around (like on a platform) and introduced out of the tunnel.

Maybe 45 people in attendance for Mladenovic and Ostapenko.

Edit: I can't do it justice.

Oh yeah, in queue, I also have significant amount of work to do but that really threw me off, lol. I am a sucker for horrible European and South American ceremonial introductory spectacles.

Also, Ostapenka just absolutely steam rolling Mladenovic. She looks possessed.

Edit: Yeah, like I thought - absolutely no one was saying that. Clearly it's a good idea to actually read people's posts so that we don't look a little silly, huh?
