Sterling A was a D1 player so i'm assuming he's the best on here. There is the other poster from NJ that's a club pro so they're both in the 5.5/5.0 range.

Who's arguing anything? This is just a stupid topic and not something I've ever heard despite seeing this more times than I can count. Sorry if I don't break this down by percentages for you.

Not taking about body of work. If anything it's perfect becuase despite other polarizing g issues no one brought this up as an issue when he won the us open. Becuase it's....accepted.

Lol. Sure man. I'm just saying suddenly someone is massively overthinking something that is common to the point you are going into when it's ok to "drop to your knees when appropriate" Which I'm pretty sure you made up. But that's ok. Ill have to review the pie chart later I guess.

Junior players yell come on every point, but that doesn't change the fact it's extremely cringeworthy. This falls in the same boat.

It's not worth it for the players to say anything but you're fooling yourself if you think only Kyrgios has an opinion on the matter.

What does yelling to pump yourself up have anything to do with disrespect during a celebration? I mean we can agree that yelling after every point has a cringe level but what are we walking about now? Just emotions or disrespecting opponents or the sport in general? College players are hugely vocal too. I watched a lot this year and even if I thought to myself I wouldn't do it I also realize it's probably super common in other sports we just don't hear it as well.

And when Texas won the title the guy who got the winning point immediately dropped to the ground for a dog pile. I'd agree if this was how they (or Nadal) celebrated a first round win it'd be an issue but you're just overthinking this one when it comes to winning at your highest level.

Championship Point is its own thing.

I'm more than willing to admit I'm wrong if it'll end this argument that has gone on for too long. We're supposed to happy in here, clay season is finally over.

Then, with all due respect, don't make ridiculous blanket statements. I think you and I both know that what you said isn't remotely correct.

Yes, I think we all get that, and it's why basically no one's suggesting Rafa was disrespecting Thiem. I'd have to check but I don't think even Frank was saying that. He and I and others merely pointed out that, coming from an 18 time slam winner, and with the end result basically having been evitable for quite some time, it was a really odd reaction from Rafa.

Some of us have league matches against teams that are on har-tru courts this summer. It's fun watching people realize they can slide on it like clay

very basic definition is it's a mix of crushed clay/stone layers over a hard court that when watered down and cared for is like playing on clay. older people like it because it's softer on joints than hard court and can slide a little on it like clay. it's not too different from a hard court.

I'm a bit bummed that I've been playing over 30 years and never really had a chance to play on clay. We just don't have them down here. :embarrassed:

You still don't understand context. Are you seriously comparing the emotion of a college kid winning the greatest accomplishment of his life to a 33 year old professional that's the prohibitive favorite, won the tournament 11 times already, and dominated his opponent?

Lastly, Nadal is an example to the kids. By falling on his back in a contrived manner it makes kids think that is the way to celebrate. It really is amazing you guys find it controversial to think the winner should show good sportsmanship by shaking his opponent's hand then celebrating however he likes.

    Where are you located?

Har-Tru is nicer than hard courts, but it's still a big difference from red clay.

It's also a lot cooler to play on in the summer. I feel the heat coming off hard courts but not on har Tru. It's a nice option to have.

    Sweeping courts is annoying though.

On a side note, I suck at tennis but running around on Har-Tru is quite fun - I grew up around playgrounds that were all clay and rock so brings me back.. The place we stay on the Cape has all har-tru courts and there's a few true clay courts a short drive out in Wellfleet.

Yes I played D1 tennis at FGCU (florida gulf coast university) here in Fort Myers, and have lived here all my life. Played a ton of tennis in the Juniors growing up and would play in all the big tournaments (Orange Bowl, Kalamazoo, Atlanta, Houston, etc..). I wasn't a top 10 Junior but was top 50 in the world (as a junior) at one point which I take some pride in. I played Andy Roddick 4 months before he turned pro in 2000 in Atlanta (he was 17, I was 14) and he promptly kicked my ass 6-2, 6-3 with a howitzer for a serve of course. Then played at FGCU and it was a lot of fun. These days I play a ton of pickleball, just played in the US Open down here in naples less than 2 months ago in April, but still play some tennis

Har-tru is basically the "toned down" version of clay (lightning fast compared to the red clay). Its extremely popular here in Florida (and other southern states) because Hard Courts mess up your joints and knees easily over time. But red clay is very expensive for a club to handle and take care of. But you can still slide on it like regular clay, I grew up on the stuff and its a lot of fun to play on. In 2012 I think it was, Madrid tried to make a Blue clay for there Masters1000 and it didn't work (didn't get the formula right and was really slippery) but the players said this was the closest to Har-Tru as you can get

The WTA event in Charleston every April (Volvo Championships) is the only Pro event that uses Har-Tru if you want to get a glimpse of it

I played D1 and am the club pro in nj. Played at Rutgers but the team got cut for budget and title 9 reasons. Pretty lame.

I also played mostly pickle ball and platform tennis these days. I teach a lot of tennis but don’t play a lot.

    Interesting note on Sasha:

We talk about coaching changes, but we seldom talk about agenting changes. Given the intersection between not only sports and commerce but sports and image, I would suggest that this personnel move can be truly disrupting and destabilizing. It’s an open secret that Alexander Zverev is in a bitter legal dispute with his former agent. (As this plays out, I was told that tournaments are going to him directly to offer appearance fees.) For him to reach the quarters with this thing ongoing—and his coach taking the week off—is worthy of mention.

Boris certainly has a valid perspective on it, but meh. It's not like the kids aren't trying. An attitude or attitude adjustment isn't going to bridge the gulf.

Though I do find it a bit amusing talking about attitude when the tennis establishment hates the attitude of the "young" player that's played the best against the Big 3.
