I will be in Vegas March 10-16th for a work thing with plenty of free time. I am going to die or come home broke. The only bad part is I have to stay in the god damn Luxor, because the work thing is at Mandalay Bay. Any ideas on cheap or free things I can do while out there? I will have a rental car so I plan to hit the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon.
Til Monday. I'll be all over town visiting with old coworkers and such, so I can swing by wherever. New phone doesn't have your number, so text/call me if you have the # or PM me on here.
Grand Canyon is a little bit of a haul. But def doable in a day if you really want to. Zion is pretty much on the way to the north rim too. Heard there are some road closures though from rock slides. There is good hiking just by red rock canyon that is less crowded and no admission fee. Take the road just before the park entrance for calico basin and park on the road by one of the little farms. You'll see the access. My charleston is north 20-30 mins up the 95 but it has some avalanche warnings so be cautious.
I'll respond in multiple messages as I get time and think of things. Check out Skyfall Bar at The Delano on the Mandalay campus. Terrific view. Bellagio Conservatory is free. Right now the Cinese New Year theme is up. Get a Groupon discount for High Roller. Go at dusk if you can. Since you have a car, check out The Orleans. Some decent and free local music at a couple of the lounges. Also, try out the Fremont Street Experience for free, entertaining people watching. There might be free concerts at the 3 stages. Look on-line for happy hours. Most places have them and offer cheaper small plates for dining.
Company pays for my meals up to $35. I feel like I can get some decent meals for that. Obviously I won't be eating at the major steakhouses and famous Chef places. I will also have a friend there there that used to live in Vegas so I told him to take me out not on the strip one night.
The Sonoma area on the way to the Grand Canyon is worth taking some time. As far as Red Rock, I go hiking at Calico Basin described above. However the Red Rock Canyon Recreation area trails are marked and maintained, so I recommend that for a first time visitor. There is a $7.00 entrance fee.
Burger Bar is a must at that price range (particularly given your location). I also like Border Grill
I forget about Burger Bar but it's definitely a good spot. Really solid beer list along with the burgers too
Not bad. Chicken was fairly flavorful but not tender. Spiced mac and cheese was ok. Didn't quite hit the spot, though. Gonna need some Cane's before I leave.
Bruxie at The Park? How do you like the way The Park turned out? The Park Theater is right across the street.
It seems a little out of the way. Pretty much empty this morning. I didn't head all the way back to the arena, but I like the NYNY access on that end.
Have the same experience On my first Vegas trip, I drunkenly put $100 on last third in roulette. Lost it obviously, dealer laughed in my face.
If you go downtown and want a steak go to Vic and Anthony's. Not that expensive and very good. The plates are generous
As someone who was just there for work for 7 nights, you will want to die. Hell, I took it easy the first four nights and almost had an anxiety attack on night 5. Thankfully redbull vodkas are a great cure for anxiety.
Yep, going from Excalibur across the street to MGM is a whole different planet. However, Excalibur and Luxor will get those young 20's girls that stay there to save on room costs and they can quickly go over to Wet Republic, Hakkasan, etc. Excalibur also one of the more "family friendly" casinos on the strip. I went there a couple times when I was a teenager with my family. Back then, MGM had an amusement park.
excalibur was my go to when i was under age pops would hit me with a couple hundos and i'd pocket that and just stroll the game section looking for girls by sunday afternoon i'd have a nice stack and hit niketown at the stadium shops and ball hard
I love everything about Aria. The west side stretch of the strip from Mandarin Oriental to Bellagio is just absolutely wonderful. The Mirage will still be my favorite place for a long time, though.
We only needed one room though if you know what I mean. Actually I think stayed with someone else but did see the room.
I've got a noon local for both flights thing going on. Leave home at 12 and get to Vegas at 1 and leave Vegas at noon and get home at 5. Lovely stuff.
Leaving Thursday am for a bachelor party. Staying in a condo attached to Cosmo. Thursday topgolf, friday club & Saturday strip. Any recommendations outside of the obvious? TMB hook-ups?
Absinthe is the best show in Vegas. It's an absolute must for a bachelor party. I think most pools are closed now which stink. Make everyone in the group learn to play craps. Everyone needs to chip in $100 to make a parlay. Do a nice steak dinner.
yeah I was bummed about missing pool time. We are all experienced craps players so will be plenty of that. Few poker players in the group to who will be doing tournaments.
