I'll be out there the September 10-18. I'll be at a work conference at the Venetian. Staying an extra day so I can do the tourist thing.

I assumed that would be implied with going to vegas. Actually do want to do the tourist thing and see some of the things around vegas. I assure you, I'll report back with all my winnings from the poker table.

Any recommendations on poker rooms, daily tournaments? I'd prefer no smoking so I've looked at a few of those - we're staying at Planet Hollywood. I used to play a lot of 3/6 limit, and small tournaments so I'd prefer to stick to what I know. Any advice on where to go/what to avoid?

Should have added I'm trying to lose as little as possible while getting to play for a while

All poker rooms are non smoking. Aria, Bellagio, and Venetian have the best rooms. As far as tourneys go. Aria and Venetian run the better daily tournaments.

Haven't been in a little over a year, but over the past few trips, it has been increasingly difficult to find 3/6. MGM used to be great for 2/4 or 3/6 but unless something has changed, they rarely run limit games now, same with Aria. Never played at Bellagio, but I'm certain they won't run anything south of 4/8, think that's the case at Venetian as well. Mirage usually has a 3/6 game, but it's been the toughest room for low limit poker that I've played in, and there are a lot of regulars. If Ballys gets a game going, that's typically a much more target-rich environment. Flamingo has 2/4 almost all day and that's generally a high-variance, low-skill game.

I had a lot of fun at the Golden Knights game - not sure if by booked you meant bought tickets, but I waited until a few hours before the puck dropped and got a great seat on stubhub for below face value.

Oh hey I’m back from Vegas, dudes.

Here’s the rundown on my trip:

Flew in Saturday before Thanksgiving, checked in to the Trop (holy shit this place is trashy and the decor is laughably bad but the location is excellent in my opinion). Ate at Nine Fine Irishmen at the NYNY and proceeded to get drunk walking around because of the novelty.

Sunday, hit up Eggslut for brunch. Walked way too fucking much. Went to see Michael Jackson One Cirque du Soleil show (highly recommend). Got drunk again.

Monday morning, went to rent a car and drove straight to a dispensary in North Vegas (Canopi... this was like an AT&T store to me and that was fucking wild). Cornish Pasty (recommend) for brunch. Drove 2.5 hours to Zion, took some edibles, and went to a brewery. I become weirdly enamored with the consistency of salsa.

Tuesday, hike a bunch of trails and bitch that they chose not to run the shuttles that week, rendering parts of the park inaccessible to us commoners. A Mormon family picks us up and drives us to where we want to get (we do some soaking to pay tribute to them later). More edibles and I discover a sriracha-glazed chicken breast that is instantly the greatest thing I’ve ever had.

Wednesday, more hiking in the morning and we head back to Vegas to drop off the car. We wander around aimlessly looking for Topgolf. I would be the worst at driving if not for my wife. I do manage to bank one ball in the furthest target and fix her swing to essentially a chip but she becomes much more accurate (read: doesn’t somehow hit her ball into adjacent bays by the end).

Thursday, we drop edibles and attend Big Dog Brewing’s Thanksgiving feast. :nomnom:
Lyft driver seems like he could be a serial killer.

Friday, we go to the Sharks v. Golden Knights game which was fucking great. VGK go up 4-1. Sharks claw back to 4-4. Goes to OT and VGK wins it. I settle for the 1 point for OTL. I discover sushi burritos later that night and I still have a boner thinking about them.

Saturday, we get the fuck out of there, up $230. Yay us.

Somewhere in there, the missus got her first experience with In N Out and Shake Shack. Fucking swoon.

Broke even on sports betting (real Mayweather here).

Wife’s grandma gave us an odd amount ($115) and told us to put it on red. Just stopped for a few minutes while walking through one of the casinos. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I’m not a big gambler.

Whenever I go I set aside $50 for my parents.

Tell them to pick between red or black for their 3 spins.
That's their gift. I let it ride. It's worked 2/3 times for $400.

Edit: the hottest tables I've ever seen is at the LVH. I won 5 grand one time ...started with like $100. Got to like $2k in craps. Put half of that on red twice.

Yup. Rooms are a bit small, but nice enough. I definitely prefer the rooms to Flamingo or Harrahs (which are usually around the same price). I usually stay loyal to the CET properties and tend to spend more time in Linq than the rest.

Fantastic. Thanks. Had the Cosmo at similar prices 2 days ago, but now they are 5x that. Oh well.

The only choices were Bally's, Polo Tower (whatever that is), Mandalay Bay, Flamingo, Vdara (though it was probably a little too much), New York, Excalibur :blech:, Circus Circus, Luxor, and Paris.

i've gone on probably 10 vegas trips that included one of my buddies. we usually stay at cosmo, mirage, PH. he went w/ his wife to linq and he enjoyed it.

said it wasn't anything out of this world but the rooms were updated, clean, and the location is in the middle of the action.

    underrated casino imo

Yeah, of those, Linq is the right choice. I actually like Bally's quite a bit as well, it's a bit dated but for some reason I like the vibe. I'll never stay at Flamingo ever again. Paris is meh, and the rest are in awful locations (or lack casinos). I will say, the higher end rooms at CC aren't bad for the money... I usually end up in one of those when I go for March Madness due to price and proximity to Westgate.

I have never stayed at Bally's or Flamingo, but would have considered if y'all said LINQ was shit. I'd been planning on Cosmo until the price literally jumped 400% in 2 days to $800/night, which was certainly wayyyyy out of my price range.

Don't do that. You'd be better off sleeping at a random slot machine. My first time in Vegas, I took a timeshare tour there for free Cirque tickets. It's an outdated days inn .

There's a free rail on that side between Excalibur and Mandalay, then you can cross the street and either get the paid monorail at MGM or stay on the same side and take the free one, albeit with stops/having to get off and walk a little between stops. I believe it goes from Monte Carlo/Park MGM down to Bellagio

Also, team Vdara. If you can bear the 10 minute walk to either the Bellagio casino or even less to get to Aria, the basic rooms are much better there

I don’t mind the linq if you get a legit room but the front desk is a bunch of bozos. I stayed there in September and poked a king room that was the upgraded from standard model. Check in and get the smallest room ever, legit must have been an old janatorial closet they turned into a room, with a full bed in it. I called the front desk and explained this isn’t the room I booked and the bed is a full bed, at best the smallest queen in the world. Lady says “no that is our king size bed.” I said what do you mean your king size bed? A king size bed is not up for interpretation, I lay across this bed and the diameter is from my feet to my shoulders. The lady insisted this was their king size bed room. After walking down to the front desk I finally talked to someone else and got put in a room I enjoyed that was spacious but you can definitely get a shitty room.

golden nugget is on fremont street (old downtown). cheaper table minimums if you're a gambler. older crowd downtown. lots of history. our group makes a stop to fremont street every trip.

if you are single i'd stay on the strip
