Follow up, did not realize Vdara was that “nice”. Might do that one considering the minimal price increase compared.
If you want stereotypical Vegas (which I enjoy), go Flamingo. Great location, fun casino (I always seem to win there) and amazing people watching. Plus they’ve recently renovated a bunch of their rooms. Never had issues with noise at night as long as I stay on the side facing the pool. You’re right by the Linq Promenade and across from Caesar’s and Bellagio. EDIT: also close to In & Out Burger
My caesarean power rankings: 1. CP 2. Paris 3. PHo 4. Flamingo 5. Harrahs 6. Bally’s l 7. Linq 8. Rio
Never stayed at Vdara. It’s way above any Caesars property except high end CP by almost all accounts. No casino and a little hike out to the main drag.
One other way to go is to Hotwire/Priceline it on a no-name deal, and look for 4+ stars with a casino. A bit of a gamble, but usually you can confidently narrow search parameters to get a big name strip place.
Big fan of Vdara. About a 5-10 minute walk to the Bellagio casino and Aria one is right across the circle drive. After staying a several different places we've decided we'll likely stick with Vdara on future trips

This is what we decided, 90% of the time I do my gambling at random places as I walk around the strip. Really close to a lot of the places we liked to eat and check out last time anyways. Ended up getting about 180ish off with my discount.
Linq feels more generic to me. Flamingo has history and feels more “Vegas” to me. Just my opinion though.
Yeah I prefer the MLife hotels. Not because I like MLife, I just tend to generally like their hotels. Factoring in everything I consider to be important (cost/value, restaurants, general energy level at the property, proximity to other casinos/restaurants), here's how I rank the places I've stayed: 1.) NYNY - Lots of great (cheap) food options. Like the vibe at their casino. Small sportsbook but there's never lines. Close to MGM Grand and fairly easy to get anywhere else without paying (walk to Park MGM and take free tram down to Bellagio). Pool is nothing special. Rooms are basic but I don't spend much time in room. 2.) Bellagio - Would be #1 but it's expensive. Everything feels luxurious and it's got a great location at center strip. 3.) Flamingo - Classic Vegas. Definitely a "cheaper" crowd there, but lots of fun. Amazing location. Newly renovated rooms are nice. Decent food options very close by (mainly at Linq area). Pool is nice but only if you're into the whole pool party scene (I'm not). 4.) MGM Grand - Great pool, like the rooms. Tons of food options but none that I really love. Casino is huge yet somehow always feels crowded. Best pool in Vegas. 5.) Planet Hollywood - Just never liked the vibe here (too dark in casino) plus I always get my ass handed to me here. Lots of great food options though. Rooms are solid, pool is crappy. It's a fine place, but it's similar to other places that are cheaper or I get comps to more and the location isn't as great as Flamingo. 6.) Luxor - Not a great location. Tower rooms are nice. Pyramid rooms feel like you have wasted space. Casino is generic. Food options are meh. If you're getting it comped, it's a decent place to stay.
Planet Hollywood's casino always kicks my ass so I know that pain. Had better luck at NY, Ceasars, and MGM
My MGM power rankings 1. Aria 2. Mirage 3. Bellagio 4. Mandalay 5. Luxor 6. MGM 7. Park 8. NYNY 9. Excalibur (Casino/Hotels only)
We hung out at NYNY a ton our last trip out and I appreciated it quite a bit more. The sports book is pretty terrible but I like the relaxed casino vibe. There’s a sandwich shop there that I never remember the name of but eat at every time that’s amazing. I also became a huge fan of the beer bar that opens up to the park space, they had a daily happy hour that was a great deal. We also ate at Eataly in Park MGM a couple times because the gf is obsessed with good Italian food
Overall strip hotel power rankings 1. Wynn/Encore 2. Aria 3. Mirage 4. Cosmo 5. Bellagio 6. Palazzo 7. CP 8. Mandalay 9. Luxor 10. Venetian 11. MGM 12. Paris 13. PHo 14. TI 15. Park 16. NYNY 17. Flamingo 18. Harrahs 19. Bally’s 20. Excalibur 21. Linq
Vdara is excellent. I can strongly recommend it. Be aware there is no smoking allowed and there is no gaming. However, it is a very, very short walk to Aria, Cosmo and Bellagio. It doesn’t have a food scene either, although the bar is pretty nice. Again, Aria, Cosmo and Bellagio have top line food programs. Vdara has pretty nice pools too.
I didn’t say the nicest in order. It’s how much I like the place overall. You can have pleasant experiences in lesser places.
Booked it yesterday. Thanks for the heads up, luckily not a smoker and as I’ve said before in here 90% of the gambling I do is at casinos away from where I stay anyways because usually I get bored walking and feel like losing money is a better alternative. This should work out nice though, my GF will be happy with the hotel itself, we’ll be close to all the places we like to eat at Cosmo. My friend has a comped room at The D so I’d imagine most of my gambling is down that way anyways.
Always love the excitement of finding out which CFB games are happening the week I go, just looked: OU vs Texas Alabama vs TAM Penn State vs Iowa MSU vs Wisconsin FSU vs Clemson LSU vs Florida USC vs ND
I have: Oregon vs Wash Tenn vs Alabama LSU vs Miss St () WV vs OU UM vs PSU Not a ton of great games but I still get to bet on all of them at least.
Got a cheap traveling offer and going to Las Vegas this September. I will play at Desert Pines Golf Club.
It’s probably the worst track in Vegas. I was especially pissed because when we played it we prepaid to save $25 a person and the night before we all went on a massive craps heater til 7am. So we would have played a way better course had we not prepaid but were stuck and it sucked
Never golfed on a Vegas trip (other than TopGolf) but I’d be interested in doing it once. Go somewhere near an off the beaten path casino and make a half day out of it. Drink a bunch on the course and carry it over to a cheap table
I wasnt a big fan of Bears Best. Also hated the sign that said if you break any glass you pay for it(almost every house on the course had floor to ceiling windows the length of the house)
