Different river. Guadalupe is the river in Kerrville. But yes. Water has the potential to roar out of the hills when it rains, as it did. The area of great damage is west of Kerrville and is basically hill on one side of valley, river and bluff on another with houses and buildings sandwiched in between. Much like you would find in mountain areas just on a smaller scale. The llano river running through Llano has a huge expanse the water can spread too. In Hunt and Ingram where most of the carnage start and occurred is a squeeze chute. Once you get to the east end of Ingram and west end of Kerrville the valley widens out i to somewhat of a plain.
The highway runs absolutely parallel with the river west of Kerrville with multiple low water crossings and places where the is highway, house, and river all squeezed into 75’ and elevation rises on each side. Not too far west of Kerrville. The river actually starts in western Kerr County so all that water that came/comes through starts in higher elevation and just crashes down.
And now the New Braunfels area is getting it. The Guadelupe River runs through there too but it is downstream and on the other side of Canyon Lake from Kerrville. Canyon Lake is not expected to fill from this event but 4-6” of rain has fallen in the past couple hours there.
Absolutely wild how much the water rose and how fast the current got in 10 minutes. And the Llano is in much less of a “chute” there than the Guadalupe is around Hunt. Really puts perspective to how these camps and RV parks had no chance of preparedness
This is like a cruel joke. Another cell is parked over the headwaters of the Guadalupe right now. The cell(s) in north Texas are stationary as well. A mesoscale discussion again from Kerr county all the way up into north Texas. Looks like another day of flooding for some people.
On one of the Texas sites they are saying a damn broke and helicopters are flying around telling people over loudspeakers to evacuate. A 2 foot wall of water is headed there. For fuck sake
I am hearing that this is happening along the river in Kerrville & Hunt area. Not a damn break, just more flash flooding from the rain upstream and they are trying to get all the searchers away from the river.
Apparantly this was false. A guy on OB said he got a text from someone on scene that they found 6 alive. Take that with a grain of salt. Another poster on there said he had to go identify his daughters body. I cant even imagine. Fucking terrible man.
Of the 3 model runs I saw this morning, 1 of them had us getting it pretty bad. Other 2 weren't quite as aggressive. The 1 that looked the worst for us focused more on the storms dropping out of South Dakota than the ones from the panhandle. Got an inch on the 4th. Mosquitoes are the size of schnauzers. Could be worse.
The atmosphere around Cairo/Wood River is just dumping big cells out right now. Missed it on my way home
Just added ENH for today. Got about 2 hours of sleep total last night because my dog was losing his mind at the storms, now I’ll probably be awake stressing out tonight.
I feel like the humidity went from normal amounts of fuck you to an extreme level of FUCK YOU in the last 2 hours
What are you doing Oklahoma Militia fueled by bizarre conspiracy theory brings down weather radars A militia known as the "Veterans on Patrol" aims to dismantle weather radars, and KWTV News 9 has discovered that it's part of a larger conspiracy theory surrounding weather manipulation. Amid false conspiracies about the floods in Texas being part of a kind of cloud seeding attack, organization founder Michael Lewis Arthur Meyer confirmed to News 9 that they were "absolutely" working to target Oklahoma radars. The comments come "days after an individual vandalized News 9’s weather radar," the report said. A sign they found posted near one Oklahoma weather radar claims that Doppler radars are being targeted "by victims of U.S. military weather experimentation." The militia calls it "Operation Leaning Tower." Spoiler The Southern Poverty Law Center classified VoP as an “anti-government militia,” which also promotes "anti-immigrant ideas," as well as "anti-Indigenous, antisemitic, anti-Catholic and anti-Mormon falsehoods." "They can embed their technology and civilian infrastructure in every home and every household utilizing the phones and their network towers to not only control the weather, modify the weather, but they can [target] individuals,” Meyer, a Christian Nationalist, told News9. Last year, Meyer was part of an effort in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene for posing as an aid worker to encourage locals to tear down cell towers and attack the military. "When the military plays God with the weather, they're mocking our Heavenly Father by calling one of his most favorite instruments a 'weather weapon,'" Meyer added. When asked whether VoP is responsible for bringing down the News 9 weather radar, Meyer responded, "Veterans On Patrol is responsible for a lot more than that." News 9’s Chief Meteorologist David Payne fact-checked the claims, explaining that weather radars have no weaponry. “We have one of the most powerful live radars in Oklahoma, and one of the most powerful live radars in the country, but we cannot do any weather modification at all,” he said. When those radars are damaged, “We cannot track severe weather. We cannot track tornadoes, and it basically becomes instantly obsolete," he added. Payne said he wished that he could use radars like that to help save lives. “I wish we could turn it on and say, 'oh, let's make that tornado go away,' but our weather radar and all of the weather radars in the U.S. are built strictly to inform and warn the public, and to keep the public safe -- and that's exactly why we have our live radar," Payne said. Oklahoma is no stranger to domestic terrorism. In 1995, anti-government terrorist Timothy McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. It killed 168 people and injured 680 others.
If this model I’m looking at is correct it has a 94mph wind gust popping up between Lincoln and Omaha (Ashland-ish) at 9pm. Wish I didn’t see that. Let’s hope these anxiety pills work lol
The local news in Omaha made it sound like the storms would move in from the NW but now it’s looking like whatever is in GI/York is coming this way now. Now I’m starting to believe that 90+ mph model I saw.
As I typed that it looked like they replaced the Tornado watch with the T-Storm watch for around Omaha.
Winds flowing into the storm - textbook stuff. A person can't grow up in Nebraska and not be fascinated with the weather.
