We're going to get smoked here in Omaha in about an hour. Welcome to the jungle CWS fans!! Opening ceremony should be interesting for them this evening. Edit: CWS opening ceremony canceled now
Seems like the CWS gets nailed every year. Fun fact: three years ago today was the Stanton/Pilger/Wakefield tornado family.
No joke that was probably the most scared I've ever been during a storm Zero visibility w/ sirens going off South of Omaha btw
lomcevak may not be your wheelhouse, but what resources should I follow for tropics updates? Probably worth following once I move to the coast. Hurricanes will be fun, never been through one when it made landfall. Had some tropical storm conditions in SC growing up but never the real deal
In your car I assume? That happened to me a couple years ago. Driving on a highway, couldn't see shit, phone starts going off with a warning for where I was. Scary stuff.
Just for the summer. Nebraska is pretty awesome, I made sure I could come back before I took the other job. Get to move to the NC coast for work, then come back to NE just in time for duck season and the fall.
In laws live between West Point and Wisner they have trees down all over. And had golf ball size hail.
Yeah, only going south because it's a job on the beach. Otherwise fuck that. I love cold winters, Nebraska climate >>>> the south.
Hmm, drawing a blank right now. I'll have to scan through who I follow when I'm on a computer and can give you some to follow. If I haven't by tomorrow, tag me again.
Quicker than I thought. Some hurricane-specific/heavy twitter ppl. I'm sure there are more, especially when you see who these ppl interact with. A few carolina-specific follows too @53d_HHA @NWSNHC @CarolinaWxGroup @MJVentrice @GregPostel @NOAA_HurrHunter @BMcNoldy (just recently wrote something for Capital weather gang on a potential tropical system in the Gulf) @MichaelRLowry @TTrogdon @HurricaneModels @TropicalTidbits (very good) @NHC_Pacific @NHC_Atlantic @HRD_AOML_NOAA @philklotzbach @DrRickKnabb (just left NWS for TWC - was the hurricane center director) @NASAHurricane @RyanMaue (can be very trumpy)
Thanks! Followed em. Also Lol @ the can be trumpy note. Kinda funny for someone in a science field to be trumpy.
lol yeah. he hasn't won himself many friends. He's not bad, but can still post things that make 0 sense.
All good but it was scary, the news said 110 mph winds at the storm's peak and that lasted at least 5-10 mins.I had water come through my bedroom and basement windows, my trash can is literally gone, I looked all up and down my street for it. Trees down everywhere. My neighborhood is one of the few in town that didn't lose power, thank god.
From the WY/NE outbreak the other day. Three ef2s http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=CYS&product=PNS&issuedby=CYS
The gfs is picking up the tropical disturbance next wk and flinging it at the pandhandle/al/ga Euro has it goin to texas Cmonnnn poppa needs some tropical moisture!!!
Tropical is something I need to spend more time learning about. I know the basics, but took 0 tropical courses.
Isn't there a hurricane thread? On mobile and lazy. I think there are a few mets on here that are more tropical oriented
Just got bumped today. https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...-love-story-between-matthew-and-nicole.93552/ cutig The Storm2k message board is a great follow for when there is a tropical system: http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/ I also like the Spaghetti Models page, even though it looks like it was made in 1998: http://spaghettimodels.com/
came to post Spaghetti Models, watched that thing almost nonstop when Matthew was around last year. .
Drove in to that shit Friday night heading up to Omaha. Stopped in rock port Missouri as that was the only civilization nearby. Grabbed some beers to ride the storm out. Got back in the car and phones all go off *tornado warning* Thoughts: oh fuck Look at nws tornado warned storm appears to be moving directly toward us in rock port. I suggest heading west to avoid it. We take off west, likely not the smartest decision in the dark. Head towards Auburn, Nebraska. Fellow mainboarder texts and says he has a cousin that just moved there, tornado warning now going straight towards Auburn. Think I've just killed myself, my wife, and in laws trying to get out of the path and it shifted. We get to mainboarders cousins' house about 10 minutes before the storm hits luckily and the path of the storm shifted back east and went directly to rock port. No idea if anything bad happened in rock port but was shitting my pants for awhile about my dumb decision that ended up working out. Just really didn't want to sit in a convenience store with 100 semis parked right around it if a tornado hit.
