The coliseum is also on the opposite side of campus/town where the population is denser. Damage near my moms in southside from that same storm. No damage at her house, but lots of trees down and some structure damage a couple miles away.
His tone changed 100% as soon as those reports came in. Thats ~50miles from atlanta and the SPC just highlighted the area across the border from it in GA as favorable for significant tornados
I keep seeing ppl on twitter calling this event a bust. I don't get it. Maybe wait until it's all over. this storm moving into GA is a monster heading for the Atlanta metro
Sure the folks with a shitload of property damage from that monster hail, and the people in Jacksonville certainly don't think it is a bust
I'm not super confident these storms just NW of Birmingham will amount to much, but they definitely bear watching for those in that area. Spann should circle around back to them at some point I would imagine if they maintain themselves a bit.
Anyone have a suggestion for an Atlanta station to switch to? Gonna guess Spann gets booted once this clears Alabama
He said more eloquently what I tried to say earlier when I shared the 00z Birmingham weather balloon data
Right now the worst is north and east of you. There are some storms trying to go to your west, but there's no guarantee they'll go severe let alone pose a tornado threat. I'd just watch Spann/another station right now to keep up.
More storm interactions are ongoing in GA; that monster storm was cycling but appears to be turning into more of a linear mess. Still could rapidly go bonkers again though
Any early looks for the Augusta area? Thinking it may go north? T&Ps to anyone in the path. Stay safe.
The tornadic storm is gonna stay southwest of ATL. Atlanta is under a severe thunderstorm warning for 60mph winds
Ah right. If you don't have to go to bed soon, I'd stay up to make sure you get any warnings if needed.
There's your severe thunderstorm warning for ping pong ball sized hail + 60 mph winds. Big ass warning
