Sending in airborne like that directly into the city seems like an absurdly stupid tactic, especially with thousands of armed Ukrainians just watching and waiting for them to land to fuck them up
Yes, but their execution was hot garbage and their regulars are very new and probably envisioned heroic glory and not, like, war.
I have some iranian colleagues, from the cities and the rural parts. Chillest, fun people, loving it in the US
remember a Bourdaine episode years ago and could see this. it’s so rare to get an insight to how their people feel
I guess where I get lost is that if he's going to use a nuke bc the US/Nato step in to save Ukraine, he's going to use a nuke if we step in to help Poland, if he goes there. Maybe he doesn't go to Poland, but if he does, do we say "ahh well can't risk nuclear war so godspeed Poland"? Doubtful, right? So Poland is worth the risk but Ukraine isn't?
Yes, I understand that. That was my point and why i used Poland as an exampme. So we'll risk nuclear war bc of that but not Ukraine? Seems shitty imo.
I’m not sure that’s entirely true anymore, the same was said about Putin was never going to invade Ukraine and here we are
get what you’re saying but it gives Biden and other World leaders cover at home. A nuclear standoff bc of Ukraine probably literally ends his Presidency where w Poland you have an in writing alliance that can be sold to understand the risk
We can’t keep saying this. If that was really the case, we’d shoot every Russian plane out of the sky over Ukraine
I’m not going to break down the dynamics of NATO/Article 5 and the concepts of nuclear deterrence and mutual assured destruction. You can Google those for your answer. It sucks for Ukraine but this is the way it is. We’re helping in every way short of direct involvement.
There are downsides, dangers, and risks to getting involved in a war with a country like Russia outside of getting nuked. Hth
I've thought about this lots, actually. As I said last night, I don't want to see US soldiers but I don't want to see tens of thousands of Ukrainians die, either. We spend 103847199174 trillion dollars on our military. Now seems like a good time to use it to be the good guys, for once.
for sure, but we’re taking about an absolute crazy person. To just say “no one is going to use nukes” as a blanket answer to everything isn’t the best thing to do here
Poland is a NATO member. They get attacked NATO responds. Ukraine is not, we are helping them in every way but direct interference.
Over $1b in aid to Ukraine over the last year basically going all in on sharing intelligence in a way that will take a long time to rebuild Sanctioning russia into oblivion
Again, I know Poland is a Nato member. That's why I used then as an example. Seems shitty to let civilians die in Ukraine bc they aren't a member of Nato. "Oh well we can't risk X, Y, and Z for Ukraine. Just can't risk that!" "Oh but Poland? Oh yes we can now risk all of that!"
Here is some light reading on what treaties are and how they work https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty
Can you shut the fuck up, you're not understanding the geopolitics of the situation and just running your fatboy mouth
dbl you’re doing that thing again where your big brain starts to ruin a thread that people are using for news aggregation
