Heartbreaking is the exact right word. These people are heroes and we are not worthy of the courage and conviction they have demonstrated to the world. They have put on a clinic on the will of the human spirit. I pray for Ukraine.
Something I haven’t seen talked about in here yet is African migrants in Ukraine getting denied or completely deprioritized from crossing into Poland. Fucking sucks and hope they find the means to evacuate.
gets into the two-step of how we've done regime changes in most countries in the past and what we're doing in response to the invasion not dissimilar
you can find all ideological corners making an ass out of themselves …DSA America specifically looks really out of touch w the moment , saying to dismantle NATO
Yes exactly. But the same people who would decry these tactics in other situations are now enthusiastic supporters.
yes because there is currently an invasion happening we're not just perturbed at the leadership for not kowtowing to our business interests conflating the two is a little tough to square imo
Sure, but the delusion that we can go in and install a democratic liberal government, be greeted as saviors, blah blah blah is the same old delusion that is used to justify most regime change.
based on twitter videos the Russians are having to use an assload of troops to just secure Berdyansk idk if they will have enough to control Kharkiv, Mariupol, Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kyiv, and Lviv without some sort of conscription (which would be a political loser) or getting significant help from their axis of autocratic nations
Just came to post this, all those videos we've been seeing from the TB-2's, that column is a fucking wet dream for the dude in Kiev on the stick
Pretty sure the goal is simply remove from power the psychotic narcissist that wants to take over the world and murder thousands along the way. No more, no less.
belarus will bend to russias will but what other country would do so unless russia would give up more than theyd be willing to pay, maybe im missing something but really only china has any interest of helping russia and they would always want to keep that on the downlow
I feel it's implied when people suggest that the USA should do a regime change in Russia. Just overthrow Putin and let them sort it out? Could work I guess but the downside is pretty big there.
I mean I’m not the smartest person with war tactics but would it just be absolutely dumb to ambush the convoy? I mean you know where their fuel, Intel, everything is there. A strike into the fuel could cause a major explosion and potentially cripple them right?
Air raid alerts are on in Kyiv. Not exactly sure what this means Seems like this is just starting to escalate :(
yeah, this is a good thread. I've been thinking of that all day. I'm not hearing any serious negotiations going on right now, and there reallllly needs to be. Backchannel with China on this. Give Russia some way out here that doesn't involve the fall of the Ukrainian government. No one benefits if this further escalates or God help us goes nuclear, and no one can afford a massive 1980s style arms race in an era when the world needs every loose dollar and ducat for fighting a still ongoing pandemic and climate change.
Quite the leap to make, and make such a stink out of it when no one has explicitly argued for that in here.
A. It's a horrible idea and any regime change should be internally driven and controlled B. We would have to invade and take over Russia, which is p much impossible C. Again, WHO is saying this?
Absolutely nobody. It's some obtuse strawman nonsense. I don't understand what about the entire world coming together to take action against an insane despot makes some people itchy to play some bizarre game of bothsidesism
It seems like early on they had hopes of capturing cities along the way to Kyiv. But now they’ve abandoned that and all their forces are now on course to encircling it.
I'm talking about the notion that we can go into other countries and overthrow their leaders and that the successor will be someone who is going to play nice by the rules of liberal democracy.
Putin has looked more unhinged , ofcourse people here rather see him take a dirt nap when he leads a nuclear power
Russia is in the Collective Security Treaty Organization with: Armenia Belarus Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan They would be the only countries that would even feel motivated to send any help. There's a zero percent chance that China sends anything.
I’m just sad that liberal Covid polices drove very stable and brilliant vlad to take such serious and necessary actions.
