The F22 is 80s tech my guy.

Edit to elaborate on this rather than being snarky; most of the “cutting edge” military hardware is usually 20-25 years old at best these days, between development, testing, redesign, retesting, trials, acceptance, procurement, deployment, training everyone on the new systems, etc. Russia basically had a twenty year pause on everything after “trials”. Their new submarines are all based on designs (and in many cases the first-builds were made out of surplus parts) from the late 1980s and mothballed until the 2010s. So add in a 20 year pause on regular training and the associated organizational brain drain. The S-400 may be an incredible system, but if your enlisted people are all poorly trained conscripts and your officers have no experience and are busy doing NCO duties, the system is going to be shit because the people are shit.

Both sides lack the ability to conduct offensives - effectively a meat grinding stalemate with slight Russian gains happening

I’ve read that Ukraine has been waiting for Russia to get all of their troops and heavy artillery across the river before they blow up the last functional bridge. It sounds like they just did that along a few of Russia bases as well. Hopefully the plan of getting everything across and then cutting of their supplies/escape route works.

From the limited info that is available from reports it almost seems like Ukraine is thinking 2/3 moves ahead. And at the same time Russia is reacting even tho they are the ones who’ve initiated at almost every step. Seems like Ukraine is at the point they may go on the offensive in the south: will be interesting to see what the next few moves will be before winter season is upon them. Hoping Ukraine can start pushing them out.

Look, sources of tweets aside, if you guys truly believe that all of the sudden >50% of the weapons are now reaching Ukrainian troops in the span of two days, then you're just fully down the propaganda hole. Some general being in Kiev, sorry Kyvv or whatever, is not going to suddenly get all these weapons into the UA hands.

Is it really hard to believe that the Ukrainian lobby pushed for this retraction? They've got to keep any flow of arms coming, even if they only actually get 30% of the cut.

Don't answer that, it's rhetorical. I know you're so far down on the propaganda dick that you can't accept anything that doesn't come from Ukrainian propaganda.

excuse me, i am not putting sources of tweets aside. i made no comments on anything else other than your source. you want to argue into the wind, have at it. it seems you have the issue with being unable to discern propaganda from non-propaganda given your use of sources.

And as an aside, CBS's new article said the original article was referencing data from April, not 2 days ago. Sources matter and reading comprehension does as well.

i also find it really odd that you found it necessary to do this weird Kiev, Kyev thing. what's your deal, guy?

I have no idea what arms are making it to Ukrainians or not, I think its safe to assume not all the small arms or even medium arms have made it. However it does seem like the major deliveries such as planes, helos, artillery, mlrs systems, etc have made it since we see them being used. We also need to take into account the I dunno 2,000+ missile strikes by Russian cruise missiles, artillery strikes, helo strikes, and air force strikes on UKR arms shipments, logistics, and depots. We see so much "Russia is inept" shit by Western Media, lets be honest Russia has absolutely hit Ukr Armed Forces hard. I can't imagine how much shit was destroyed before it ever could be used. It was widely reported that Ukraine literally ran out of artillery ammunition in May since their stocks were either used up or wiped out in strikes.

The UA forces in the East have been complaining about lack of weapons for months now and that situation doesn't seem to have improved. We do not see much use of Western weapons in Donbas by Ukr, those were prominently used in defense of Kyiv and currently in the South.

The Kyev, Kiev thing? I literally don't care about Ukraine. I don't give a fuck about Russia. This war is fucking stupid, wasteful and awful in every way.

What I am concerned with is the constant slurping up of Ukrainian propaganda. If you only read this thread, you'd almost think that victory for Ukraine is immanent and Russian is being pushed back to the pre-2014 borders. That's not the case, and it probably will never be the case. This thing is probably going to drag out for a long-ass time at untold cost to the Ukrainian people. Fueled by the Western weapons manufacturers that you guys so gleefully post tweets about.

You all try to holler that I'm some pro-Russia shill but that's only because you can't believe that someone doesn't buy into all the Ukraine propaganda. Like, Ukraine is losing, man. Every day this drags out, they are losing. I don't cheer for that loss, but I don't have to care about it either. I don't cheer for Russia to win or lose, I want the people to win. I'd love for the Russian people to rise up and overthrow Putin, ending the war and Ukraine and Russia begin a beautiful friendship, but none of that is going to happen. So instead I laugh at you dorks for being war tourists. That's all

I actually think the US defense contractor groups had more to gain by pressuring CBS to retract the story.

My perspective is anything which enables Ukraine to improve its ability to defend themselves from an invading army is a good thing. I don’t expect the delivery of weapons to be perfectly executed, but any opportunity to improve the rate and auditing of those weapon deliveries would also be a good thing.

They could, you know, NOT BLOW THE BRIDGES AND GIVE THEIR PEOPLE (and yes, Russian troops) ESCAPE ROUTES.

They could do that. They could actually take they're people into account instead of just places on maps

Why would the Ukrainian army give the enemy that is trying to wipe them off of the map an escape route? If you've got a group of enemy soldiers trapped, you ask for their surrender and if they don't surrender, you kill them. That's what happens in wars; wars fucking suck.

That said, I don't think the Ukrainians are on the verge of any sort of grand victory right now. I don't think they have the ability to launch anything other than local, tactical offensive operations. They need (expensive / controversial) weapons the west is reluctant to give them, and would need months to train on them even if they were on offer.

I’ve honestly never interacted with this poster before, but he happened to have the last posts in two threads I was catching up on. I’ve gotten a lot better at not reacting instantly, but I couldn’t in this instance. It’s amazingly scary how people have just gone all in on everything is propaganda and “you just can’t see the truth” the last 10 or so years. The internet is a terrifying tool

Remember when all those pundits who were so very concerned about the Ukrainian people when Russia invaded were all banging the drum about how Ukraine should just surrender and how that would be best for them? Just a coincidence that's what Putin wanted I'm sure.

So, in your mind, to save the Ukrainian people, you should bomb the bridges. Cut the people off from escape, and trap them in a kill zone with Russian troops that you have already documented to have brutalized the population? All to just achieve a minor victory in the larger war? Blowing these bridges and trapping these Russians here does what for the overall war? Is it an actual means to end the war? Will cutting them off produce any gains on any front? The only guarantee is that the Ukrainian people of this region will suffer untold hardships. Starvation and war crimes and bombing and killing from both sides. Absolutely guaranteed.

Blowing the bridges does not seem like a good idea to me.

it’s not just an escape route, it’s how Russia has been resupplying. Those soldiers aren’t going to retreat if those bridges are open, it’s exactly how and why they took the city in the first place. If those bridges aren’t blown, ukraine isn’t going to counter attack

No, I get that. I was more responding to his post.

My second point was that even if they do manage to drop all the bridges over the Dnieper, I'm not convinced Ukraine is in a great position to launch some sort of broad counterattack that will force the Russians to the bargaining table.

Well, first off, the Russians have a fairly high % of their army, and some of their best frontline equipment on the west side of the river and the Black Sea on their left flank. If the Ukrainians cut them off and forced their surrender, it wouldn't be a minor victory. It would be a strategic one - it would take months for Russia to replace the battle groups and equipment. But see my point above about all that.

Second, yes, civilians are dying in this war. Lots of them. For those in the towns and cities nearest the fighting, it's total war - it's grim. People are going to be dying and being maimed from UXO for 100 years because of this.

But remember, this was Russia's decision to invade and go to war. And if Ukraine collapses and/or surrenders, lots of civilians will never be seen again and a ton more would end up as refugees. Ukraine doesn't really have an option to surrender, so I'm not sure what you expect them to do.
