that's a bad look. while not 100% being aware of the whole situation, I would imagine that's a pretty decent deal for the USWNT.

So I’m guessing this is one of those situations where there is so much bad blood that nobody is going to ever be happy and it’s going to continue to be shitty sniping in public?

I just wish a journalist is able to put together a doc or long form article that breaks everything down without any bias. It seems everything is slanted to one side or the other and the truth generally is somewhere in the middle.

What could be slanted if they're offering the exact same deal to both sides?

The issue is what we've always known. The women's team just doesn't generate as much revenue as the men's team. The only way to equalize that is to under pay the men's team and overpay the women's team.

That’s if you take everything USSF says at face value, which is more benefit of doubt than they deserve

That would be a bold move by the lawyers to allow them to announce it if it wasn't true.

Is it though? USSF is a joke, and I'm sure they hire lawyers than have no issue playing their stupid games.

USSF can be a joke but I don’t get the sense that Cindy Parlow of all people is going to be out there leading the charge on something to fuck over the women

My guess is that equal pay means something that doesn’t guarantee salaries in the way that the current women’s CBA does and/or doesn’t incentivize performance at World Cup/other international events to the extent their current deal does.

Also would not have any benefits package for the women like they have in their current CBA.

Women had a lot of bargaining power when the men were performing poorly and missing world cups. They may overplay their hand if they wait too long and the financials start to go in the other direction.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

They had a good negotiating angle, "We want equal" pay. But now they've backed themselves into a corner because they didn't really want equal pay.

Good thread. Just shows what makes it really hard is the vast gap between performance of the two sides. To that end I tend to lean with the ladies if they indeed to win the WC just to make as much money as a.mens team who didn't even qualify. But it's not that simple it seems

The problem with that is that doesn’t factor in the guarantees the women have that the men don’t.

As he points out, the men would’ve earned more under the women’s contract than they did under their own

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that definitively.

But that isn’t a USSF problem, that’s a WWC brings in significantly less than MWC problem. The WNT stance seems to be, that’s not our problem, you find the money and I take issue with that.

USSF sucks and I don’t trust them at all but it’s also not their fault that the women’s game just doesn’t bring in the same sponsorship money that the men’s does

Well depends on perspective and yours is a fair one. The other perspective is the USSF is one governing body and it takes in a total revenue figure of X. You can argue that once you have X, to distribute it equally.

One analogy would be at a major company and if a director of product X makes the same as director of product Y even if they bring in different revenue. Not all companies operate like that but it's a model.

If you look at tennis, grand slam purses have been equal for a long time now even if you want to argue one side brings in more than the other (which you can definitely do).

So it's a matter of perspective both understandable

Man, this guy makes it seem like the women won’t be happy unless they get the prize money given out to the winner of the men’s cup. It seems USSF did what everyone said they should, suggest putting both teams money in a pool and splitting it down the middle.

That guy has 3 or 4 videos on that topic as news comes out. Seems pretty unbiased from what I can tell. Really starting to seem that the women just want to get paid more no matter. They want equal pay but bc the Men will never win a WC so they’ll get paid more under their own deal. Which was what was happening. They got more money overall and more money per game with benefits.

I just struggle that they didn’t know of this stuff ahead of time. I’d almost guarantee that some around the league knew what he was, and just didn’t do shit about it.

Regardless, glad they made the right decision.

They absolutely either knew or should have. Everything was reported to the NWSL years ago. We are so awful to the female athletes of this country. Goddamn depressing.

Yea that’s the question at this point. The Courage didn’t hire Riley, he came with the team when it moved from NY after Malek bought them, so that’s the only possible chance it wasn’t known.

But reality says this is one of those known but not formally discussed thing that so many male dominated work spaces have.

This might not seem like a lot … but the Thorns get 15k+ fans a game and all these people will have already purchased tickets.

they will go to support the players and teams, but this is an even bigger statement than not cheering for almost the entire half.

    This is a big stand.

You say everyone but it’s pretty much just Alex Morgan, who’s been quite shit poor on the international stage in front of goal for about 3 years now.
