Money shouldn't be an issue. Good read: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-yankees-have-a-lot-of-payroll-to-use/
I assume Frazier will probably have every opportunity to start in LF if we don't more him this off-season.
I can't imagine we look to move Frazier unless someone makes an insane offer. His value will never be lower.
Looks like for our 2 game series in AZ we have a 12:40 PM MST start for the get away day game. I'll be there but man the algorithm needs some work.
Pretty meh on this offseason. We were told they wanted to get under the cap to go hard in the paint this offseason and they just didn't. Spread some money around but never even pursued Harper or Machado. That's pretty fucking weak. I posted about this in the MLB thread, but I was watching the Reggie Jackson YAnkeeography last week. He told the story of how he met with George in his hotel one morning when he was a FA. George left and several other teams came in throughout the day. That night he walked down to go to dinner and George was sitting in the lobby, a full 7 hours after they had met. George said he wanted to have the last word/pitch to Reggie. Reggie knew then where he was going. Hal won't even write a fucking check. I mean I get it. It's a business to him. It's always been the family business to him and he treats it as such. But fuck man George didn't. He ran the team like a fan, money be damned. He just wanted to win and would do anything to do so. Hal is a kid that grew up with money and took over the family business and treats it as business. It just happens to be a baseball team. I mean we're going into 2019 with Troy Tulowitzki a SS when Manny Machado was available for just money.
DJ and Torres can both play short if Troy falls on his dick. I for one am glad we didn't go after Harper (and especially Machado). Outside of a perceived hole at short, do we really have any glaring weaknesses?
Machado wouldn’t have survived in NY. Happy the Yanks didn’t pursue him. And Harper is just not someone they were interested in.
If Torres slides to short, there's a hole at 2b. 1b blows. 3b defense is a massive issue. Gardner doesn't have much left. We don't have a true ace unless Sevy shows he's back to his old self. Why are you glad we didn't go after them? Do you not think Machado is better than Tulo or Andujar? Harper isn't better than Brett? We're the fucking Yankees and we're worried about a few million in tax fees. That's pathetic. Players I'm confident in this season in no order: Torres Hicks Stanton Judge Tanaka Happ Bullpen Sanchez was bad offensively and defensively last year. Andujar can't play defense. Neither 1b makes me comfortable. Brett is old af and was bad last year. Frazier can't stay healthy. Sevy was awful in the 2h. Paxton gave up a lot of HR's last year and is now in a HR ballpark. CC is 82 years old. Didi is coming off a huge surgery and will miss half a season at minimum. So yea I'm not all warm and fuzzy across the board. We have a good team and should be a playoff team but there's definitely some spots to be concerned about.
And no, I was not at all interested in a 10+ year deal with either of them. Do we not remember how ARod turned out?
Arod was 31. Machado and Harper are 26. That's a huge difference. Go look at Arod's 10 years following his deal with the Rangers. They were amazing. The 2nd 10 year deal at 31 was the problem, not the one at 25.
We're not even getting into the fact that neither one is half the player ARod was when he got his huge deal.
I don't give a damn about value. It's the Yankees. Go get the best player. Glove is arguable. Machado at 3b is all-world defensively.
Just a hard pass from me. I'd have much preferred Harper to be honest. I can't stand Machado, and nothing you say is ever going to change my mind.
Ok? You're just ignoring they are 26 and saying "Well Arod's deal was bad!" while ignoring his age when he signed it. There's nothing to suggest Machado and Harper won't remain very good players for the next 10 years. Most elite players remain very good through about 35. Arod was signed through 41. That was the issue.
That's fine. Just say you don't like him. That's a personal bias and that's fine. Suggesting we wouldn't be a much better team with him makes you look silly though.
The issue is you're arguing attempting to change my mind, it's ever going to happen. I've made my disdain for Machado pretty evident.
Again, that's fine. Just say "I don't like Machado" and leave it at that. Bringing up the 10 year deal and comparing it to Arod and not mentioning the age factor was just dumb.
Do you always put words into other peoples mouth in an effort to craft some type of narrative? Because you suck at this.
Sorry for not being a massive homer that sees no weaknesses and acting like a women scorned saying I'm glad we didn't go after the 2 best players available.
Just pointing out how silly your statements were. We have some glaring weaknesses. We'd be better with Harper and/or Machado. Suggesting otherwise is just dumb.
I have better things to do than argue with Dblplay from the internet over baseball. If you wanted to have a conversation about the Yankees, cool. But you're being a fucking douchebag, so do you really expect me to converse with you further?
How exactly am I being a douchebag? By pointing out how absurd your take was? Sorry man, but it was dumb. We have weaknesses. A lot of them. And you're letting your Machado boner make you look dumb on that front too. We have weaknesses. Machado and Harper would have both improved our team. Those are facts. Don't get mad at me for pointing them out.
You - WE HAVE NO WEAKNESS! Me - Actually... You - WE SIGNED LEMAHIEU! AROD! Me - Arod's first deal was great. You - Mad
