This team is so deep on paper. All of the injuries the last few years have let some guys get time and show they can play.
Micheal Kay just said that Sanchez' average is uncharacteristicly low (.139) but he's hitting cleanup today so you can see just what he means to this lineup. Actually it's barely low by his standards and he fucking blows and doesn't mean much to the lineup.
By my count we have four guys in the the starting lineup today that are hitting below the Mendoza line with more than 25 ABs and another guy with zero major league ABs.
Your hatred is a bit much for Sanchez. He's not great defensively but offensively he's very solid. Obviously he's off to a very slow start so hope he gets back to 17/19 form and not 18.
I probably am and I probably wouldn't feel as strongly about him if he didn't have talent. But it's annoying to hear about how good of a hitter he is now when he just isn't. He has a 101 OPS+ in the last 3 seasons combined. And that would be fine if he were a plus defensively, but hes not.
Another reason I probably hate him more than I should is the inexplicable streaks that run for weeks where he looks like he's never seen major league pitching. Sliders outside and curves in the dirt all day and chase after chase. You hate to see him up with anyone on base half the year. On the plus side the Mets have somehow already given up 4 runs to this joke of a lineup.
Since coming up mid-2016, he has the highest wRC+ for all catchers and is 5th in WAR while playing 100-180 games less than the guys in front of him.
Most of the reason he's so frustrating is that there's no reason he should ever be in a funk like this with his talent he shows on the hot streaks. It's so maddening. I don't get mad at Tyler Wade because I don't expect anything from him.
Yeah I have serious doubts that this team minus Judge, Stanton, Torres, Paxton, Kahnle and Britton can hold off the Jays
Yea this is bad. Last year all of the injuries were masked by guys playing above their head. Now even the regulars that aren't hutlrt suck. I mean Green and Ottavino gave up 9 runs while getting 1 out last night.
Guessing this was a big Sanchez game? Been at sea but I was watching the extra inning game last night and I actually said to myself then that I'd probably find a tag from you when I got in cell range Glad he's finally showing signs of life. Having hot Sanchez for the playoff would be huge.
Haha grand slam in extras iirc. One of the few bright spots for him this year. Last night was another.
Have they said anything about why him over Tanaka? Hoping Tanaka isn't hurting or something like that.
I haven't seen an official explanation. Some has guessed it's to give Tanaka more rest but idk. Numbers suggest Tanaka is better on 6 days rest. At the top level, the idea holds up to scrutiny. On four days rest, Tanaka has allowed a .728 OPS for his career in 56 starts. He’s allowed a .716 OPS in 86 starts on five days rest, and a sterling .628 OPS in 31 starts with six days of rest or more. Tanaka’s ERA on five days rest is just a tad higher, at 3.82, than his 3.75 figure on four days rest, but he’s put together a 3.50 ERA on six-plus days. His walk rate has stayed level across levels of rest, but his strikeout rate has increased with every extra day of rest, while he allows hits at a lower rate with more rest. His lowest home-run rate has come with six-plus days rest.
Yea very happy with both signings. DJ was a must and Kluber was the upside type signing we should be using our abundant resources on.
as someone who watched bruce pass through the reds system (including seeing him play for the dayton dragons, in person) ... ... fuck jay bruce
Much like we don't need names on jerseys, we don't need gimmicky thread titles. *I reserve the right to change my mind
