Fwiw we could have Harper for ~8M less this year than Hicks and Donaldson's combined salary if you really wanna kill yourself. We could have paid Urshela peanuts to be a perfectly fine 3B.
always been a cashman defender but the donaldson deal coupled with montas being trash and dealing a pefectly good monty (regardless of how good i think bader is) has me ready to see his ass gone.
exactly. urshela was just better than donaldson this year too, not to mention he's a good clubhouse guy and donaldson is a dickhead
Ehh I don't want to sound like I'm defending Hal but we had one of the highest payrolls. I think we were $10m off the Dodgers. You could say we should be at $300m bc we we were over $200m in the mid 2000's and I wouldn't disagree. But payroll isn't the issue. A higher one would make it easier but wasting $50m on Donaldson, Chapman, and Hicks, who combined contributed as much as I did, that's the issue. As for Judge, hell idk. He holds all the cards and just had the greatest season he's ever going to have. Paying him for this year when he's never going to duplicate it seems really dumb but we're kinda forced into doing it. Part of me thinks we'd be better off not doing it bc he'll be 31 early next season but on the other he's my daughter's favorite player and I don't want to have to tell her he's going to another team bc deep down I know she'd become a fan of that team and I'd die inside.
And we really need to start producing more home grown guys we can have for cheap for a while. We really really really need Cabrera, Peraza, Volpe, and Dominguez to pan out. Hell just 3 of them panning out would be great. Having 3 cheap guys makes it much easier to pay guys like Judge.
He was definitely down this year. He's been pretty good prior to that though. $32m good? Ehh probably not but he's still been a good bat in the lineup. Need better from him next year.
i really do like him, but imagine not investing in the length of that contract and how that could have changed the course of the team?
And I know a lot of people are down on Boone but idk how much a change their makes. We just don't have the roster to compete witht he Astors. How many guys do we have that would play for them? C - Trevino 1b - Rizzo 2b - Altuve SS - Pena 3b - Bregman LF - Altuve CF - Push? RF - Judge SP 1 - Verlander SP 2 - Cole SP 3 - Framber SP 4 - Nestor SP 5 - Vazquez Their pen is light years better too. So yea blaming Boone for us getting our doors blown off bc the entire lineup forgot how to hit for 2 weeks seems like an overreaction to me. Like 90% of the job for a manager these days is dealing with players and media. I think Boone is good at that. They aren't sitting in the dugout making gut decision on what RP to use in the 8th. Most of that is decided days ahead by some guy with 8 degrees from Yale. So yea, what exactly does firing Boone accomplish?
fwiw the only reason my avatar is booney is because it was available on the internet and i was too lazy to make one for cashman
Considering we spent $50m on Donaldson, Chapman, and Hicks, not sure how much faith I have that we'd have spent it better.
Wasn't singling you out, just seems like a lot of Yankees fan want him gone and I haven't seen anyone really say why or what he could have done better. Other than pulling Nestor when he was hitting 86mph, I can't really think of anything.
I'm ok with older guys for platoon and bench roles where they have a lot of time off and can produce when given a chance to play but an everyday role for a 38 yr old rarely works out.
Same. 3 weeks in AAA buys them another year. But I think the new rules may have worked here: The top two finishers in Rookie of the Year voting in each league are automatically awarded a full year of service, regardless of how much they actually accrued that year. Teams will receive extra draft picks as compensation for promoting young players to their Opening Day roster who later finish in the top 3 in the Rookie of the Year voting or in the top 5 in Most Valuable Player or Cy Young Award voting.[3]
am i reading this right that if AV started the entire year and finished top two in the AL for ROY he'll have 2.0 years of service time? that's pretty cool.
No. What it means is that if they'd kept him down for 3 weeks ot gain a year and then he came up and finished top 2, he'd still get a service year this year. So if they think he'll finish top 2, there's no point in keeping him down. Top 2 guarantees him a year of service, no matter what the team does.
Was reading an article about how Yankee hats are very popular in Brazil and it ended with this: I'm fucking shook
Yankees finally play in Atlanta this year. Gonna try to go for at least two of the games even though it’s a weekday series.
He wasn't an elite player but damn 15 years in pinstripes is a lot. Will be weird seeing someone else wear 11.
was pretty hoo hum coming into this season, but volpe being on the big club to start the year feels like a cattle prod has been shoved up my ass.
What are we doing with Peraza? Tough for that kid to go back down after playing well at the end of the season and getting regular AB's in the postseason.
idk they have Gleyber for this year and next year for cheap. I guess it depends on what they can get for him. I know there's been rumors for a while though.
Last year the Talkin’ Yanks guys asked Boone who the breakout player would be, and he said Nestor. They asked him who it would be this year and he said Donaldson. I’ll believe it when I see it.
i just don't like him. i think he's a huge asshole and i find it hard to believe many people like him. but it wouldn't be the first time i was wrong.
