Bob Diaco is legitimately insane. Like he is a crazy person. HTH.
And super handsome.
I'm not sure how much say he'll actually have over defensive schemes this season. I would imagine he's a glorified GA
I would take a handsome, insane person over Kish as LB coach though
thats why i wanted him at texas tech. just build a coaching staff all on looks
This is not like an endearing football warning, like oh man that workout was crazy or it’s insane we tackle to the ground in practice.
More of a Stillwater bail bond type of crazy.
Diaco does not have a revolutionary approach to defense. He's very textbook. His defenses are simple and fundamentally sound. This means that hardly anyone ever misses an assignment or is out of position. They tackle well. He's an emotional and energetic coach so players like playing for him.
The problem is that those simple defensive schemes only consistently work when you can out-talent the opposition. ND had Te'o, Stephon Tuitt, and Louis Nix playing in the front seven so we were able to dominate the line of scrimmage against every team we played (until Bama).
And as others have said, he's also a crazy person. The only time I can remember this paying dividends in recruiting is when he showed up in Ishaq Williams's driveway at 5:30 am to stop Ishaq from getting in the car to go on a visit to Penn State. Very entertaining press conferences though.
This alone would improve our defense leaps and bounds.
Not only do we line up improperly, we miss tackles if we get near the ball.
Our DL coaches have been doing well accumulating DL talent, so I am hopeful that can be the basis of our improving D, but it doesn't help anyone if the 7 guys behind them can't find their assignments and miss tackles.
As for recruiting, our current LB coach plays the nice guy, offers any talented kid that wants to come to OU so late that he doesn't commit to us, and resorts to finding small 3 star LBs and hoping they will become a monster in college for no apparent reason.
hey I'm happy for you guys, think Scott Frost will do good things. But I will scoff at anyone who thought Mike Riley was ever going to do shit there. Can't wait for our matchup in '21/'22, hopefully Scott and Lincoln have it rolling and it will be a great throwback of the big games
Don't ever hire Brian Van Gorder then.
Don't worry, we have the epic duo of Mike Stoops and Tim Kish
Diaco was an utter disaster. Responsible for probably the worst defense in our program history. Guy literally stayed in 3-4 base against spread teams and got gashed.
Shall we get this going for this weekend?
5* Arjei Henderson just committed
Expecting 5* Theo Wease any moment.
Many projecting 1-2 more top guys committing over the weekend. The visit list is outrageous
Frigg off Mr. Leahy.
This is going to be a great time
Wease just committed
Jamal Morris on board
4th commit coming soon :)
No idea who this one will be. Maybe Jarrian Jones? The other three were all expected, to some degree or another
I have no idea either. If I could pick one, the obvious choice is Chris Steele.
Sounds like it's 2020 RB Jaylan Knighton
She laid there a long time. I thought she got knocked out.
Quite the little weekend, gents
Is there a Lubbock thread? Going for the week for work. What bars do I hit?
think you're in the wrong neighborhood, friend
Jarrian Jones committed last night. Last of the seven from the weekend.
Sounds like Stacey Wilkins will be committing after his Bama visit this weekend
and we may have all but sealed the deal with 5 star CB Chris Steele and 4 star CB Jaden Davis. Both announcing in July and we may have hinted to Erick Young that we are full at CB (he's leaning A&M anyways, but Josh hinted at it yesterday)
I don't really follow recruiting anymore since I ditched my rivals sub years ago but this sounds better than OU has done in a while. Knock on wood, I hope I didnt jinx us.
Kyler Murray just went #9. You don’t draft a guy in that slot without a guarantee
What a gamble by the A’s
Most think he'll play one season then leave. Signing now won't stop him from being able to do that
1 season of Kyler -> straight into Spencer Rattler taking the reigns for the next 3 years
(BTW, Rattler was the best QB at the Elite 11 last weekend if you didn't see)
Going to be hard for Rattler to win the job as a true freshman if he's still planning on being a summer enrollee
the Scoop guys mentioned in the last thread, with the way things are moving they wouldn't be surprised if things "suddenly changed" and he was on pace to be a spring enrollee
I'd be cool with that. He'd still have to beat RS junior in Kendall but that'd make it more likely
a) he's good enough
b) I think AK is still a flight risk with all the press about how good Rattler is.
but I agree, I think AK is more likely to stay now that we know Kyler legit is only playing 1 year and not 2
If Kendall transfers because of an incoming true freshman he's never competed against, then no way is he cut out to be a D1 QB anyways
agreed, but we can't act like it hasn't happened before. Quarterbacks are bigger flight risks than ever before. It's crazy
They better already be talking to Alex Grinch
I feel reborn, fellas
Texas might have done OU a long-term favor if that game was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back.
I have no real expectations for Ruffin this season. Any improvement would be nice. This is just a stop gap until Lincoln gets his guy later on.
Just attack. Who gives a shit at this point
Hasn't that been the MO for a while now?
Not the attacking part. We've played cloud coverage/contain+react for years now
Recruits 4 and 5 star CB's. Plays 8 yards off the ball for half a decade.
The fact we stayed in 2 high safeties and refused to make ARMY beat our CB's 1v1 outside should tell you all you need to know.
