Obviously hyperbole I thought I thought it was clear I meant the people who will like this song (not Nas, clearly like obviously) are probably the same low key racist undiscerning chodes that often like music that is close to rap but supposed to be country. The type of dudes that buy a cheap cowboy hat and go to a Sam Hunt concert and yell racist shit at the tv during a football game.
I find the song entertaining because people bitched to get it off the country charts (for obvi reasons) and then Billy Ray said Nah fuck that and now it's back on the charts. Its a big middle finger to the POS in this country, and I think its great, even tho I dont really care for the song or the genre.
I have no doubt shitty racist people will play it, but it's been very widely embraced by the black community. there's never really been a black artist who made a trap/country song before so I don't see the parallels to the shitty colt ford-esque shit that is out there. either way some of y'all don't like it, some of us do, and that's ok.
Thug did a little on a Beautiful Thugger Girls, but that’s about it. But also he didn’t lean into the country as much as this song does. Also, in my experience, racists (especially young ones) have no problem liking black artist while being racist. Not sure I see the difference between this song and any other trap song with that frat angle.

I mean, fucking cowboy hat from Gucci and Wrangler on my booty? Jesus
TC, hand in your badge and gun. You are off the fun police force. Take a few days off to clear your head. YOU ARE A LOOSE CANNON.
"Cowboy hat from Gucci and Wrangler on my booty" is the single best country lyric ive heard in the past 5 years. And honestly the fact it's the first country lyric Ive heard in the last 5 years is pretty irrelevant.
While this part is partially true, that's not the whole story. There are definitely some racists out there doing this, but that isn't the reason billboard took this song off the charts. Labeling this song country, when it isn't, is what caused the issue. Now, a lot of other songs on the country billboard shouldnt be listed as country either. That's a whole other battle getting into what billboard and the general public consider country these days, though.
I’m honestly surprised it took so long for someone to use the racism card. Has more to do with this not going through Nashville. Country music is notorius for having their artist go through the Nashville pipeline. This went viral on instagram. More pushback for not going through the “approved” channels than anything else. Also, by pulling the racism card are you insinuating the billboard charts are racist or racist white people are calling to have it removed from the billboard charts? Edit: Either way it shouldn’t have been pulled and ultimately is probably better for this guys career that it was pulled. Definitely got additional coverag.
This is the article about its removal: https://www.google.com/amp/s/hypebeast.com/2019/3/billboard-lil-nas-xs-old-town-road-from-country-music-chart-removal?amp=1 “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.” Would love to see the full list of those factors spelled out.
because it has nothing to do with billboard's decision to keep it off the country charts after originally putting it on there.
No references to cold beer, Friday nights, or picket fences? No rapey innuendo either? Not country IMO
You can make fun of it. But just know that if we are ever riding on a tractor I’m not giving you any lean for your bladder.
The person least happy about the remix: my wife. She’s already pretty annoyed by me singing it around the house. Now there’s a whole new ridiculous verse.
I’m happy for him. I also hope this breaks a number of streaming records for the country music genre. Lil Nas X going to the CMT Awards y’all.
Git those blacks out of my country music!1!! Love that he said, “Fuck that, I’m getting back to the top of that damn country billboard chart with Hannah Montana’s dad.”
Financial incentives are strong for sure but I doubt Billy Ray ever reaches out on twitter if not for the controversy of him being kicked off the charts.
The ironic part is I'm a songwriter and grew up driving tractors myself And if a songwriter friend of mine showed me this song, I'd roast him
Could someone link the original version? Just finding out about all this and the controversy today and I can't find the original song.
