Mondo is such a freak. Nilsen was coached by Derek Miles, who is currently coaching one of my nieces and daughters best friends who does PV at South Dakota.
Randolph Ross got popped for fucking with his drug test but for some reason we couldn’t sub Godwin in.
If someone sees a camera angle of Mondo clearing the bar please post it and get rewarded with likes. I bet he had 8-10 inches of hip height over that bar. Absolutely shameful we couldn’t get a replay of a world record.
Little juggsian research says the open 400 record is 47.6 by an East German steroid user. Switch events Sydney, for the world’s sake!
This kid is so easy to like. Luis Grijalva made Guatemala proud tonight There's an article out there in the WaPo about how we actually need another American city to step up because these crowds weren't what the athletes expected. Some thought that like 4 major events in Eugene in such a short span makes it hard to keep the enthusiasm level up https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...orld-track-field-championships-american-fans/
God that was a fun week+. Mondo is incredible. Javelin Grenadan and the semi 100 hurdle were my highlights. Some solid Hungarian sports washing by the lads to tie things up and make me feel like shit for enjoying this.
World's was so much more enjoyable than the Olympics as a whole for T&F fans. Glad we only have a year to go for the next.
i know they're trying to launch their streaming service but nbc's coverage was a disaster imo. this was the only live sports on for much of the last week and only competing with mid-summer baseball and mls otherwise. the weather was perfect, the crowd and stadium were good, and yet nbc broke up the coverage onto three channels (main nbc, cnbc, and usa) in addition to peacock? insanity. biggest non-olympic track event + in a favorable time zone + us dominates the meet and the tv execs would rather run the news and dumb gameshows. i caught episodes of shark tank and the weakest link tonight on cnbc and nbc, respectively, as i waited to watch the final night (and the fucking primary broadcast was tape delayed here out west).
Man, this was all super fucking cool. I sat in the Athletes family area today and it was great to talk to people from around the world. An amazing experience to have in little ole Eugene, Oregon. These people were from Uganda and their son was running the 5000. They are spending 2 weeks in the PNW after this.
Loved these 10 days but I’m a sicko. Looking at the womens 4x4 splits. Only five women split under 50 seconds, two Jamaicans, Steiner + Wilson were 49.99 and 49.39, and then Sydney all alone at 47.91. She is insane and should be able to get the flat 400 record back from the juiced up Europeans of the 80’s.
It’s not like she isn’t running 400s in practice every day. And it’s not like her practicing it will be any difference in a race. If she is going for the record there won’t be anyone within two seconds of her.
That damn YT algo keeps putting the womens 4x100 in my face all the time and I can't help but click and love. Might be my fav moment from worlds. What a performance.
