Church St died in the 80s but there were a few spots there like 10 years ago. Its been 100% dead for like 3-5 years and people keep trying to bring it back. Its dead and will stay that way.
I was surprised when I saw the Chillers building died. Seems like a lot of the downtown nightlife has moved north towards 50.
Only worth a shit for a gameday. Too many people moving out of cities and shit for it to be anything more than that.
Say what you will but I rejuvenated this thread. Y'all were posting like a few times a year in here and now I've had you debating cuisine and discussing the good ole days at random bars. You're welcome!
Holy shit. Your Lake Eola location was very close to where I am staying. You closing down last week has made y'all miss out on literally $1-14 dollars worth of popsicle revenue from me. Probably enough to justify keeping it open if I had to imagine.
Only joking, of course. I was originally supposed to be here last week instead but things got changed. Might've been your last customer there by rare chance. The theMain-board.com works in mysterious ways.
we have an eta on this? Looking for a place to spend some hard earned money from operating all these motherfucking space lasers
That’s what happens when u start getting rid of bars people like and replacing them with bullshit trash ass theme bars
Headed home. Thanks for your resourcefulness, Orlando thread. Enjoyed my time in your city and had many solid meals. Most of all, I can confirm Casey's has strong pours. Very strong pours.
It's been an interesting project. If you are a contractor or something definitely let me know, always need good people there.
Sorry to interrupt your thread, but I figured you guys could point me in the right direction. We are contemplating a move to the Orlando area. Which area has the best schools? Been looking some in Oviedo, but where else should we consider?
Said it in the ucf thread but wish I could endorse lake Nona stronger. I do think it’s a good strong community with a lot of good people. Sports leagues and whatnot I have enjoyed for my kid. A LOT of young families. but it’s getting too busy for the infrastructure. 1 road. Relief schools are being built. We like our elementary school a lot (eagle creek) but the high school has like 4400 kids or something insane. And they just keep adding apartments here. real estate wise you could also get more bang for your buck elsewhere. It’s all expensive here but at Nona is just a bit on the high end of the curve there.
Nona is nice but it is getting too crowded. Too many apartment complexes going up. Maitland or Winter Park for Orange County. Longwood, Lake Mary or Oviedo for Seminole. No go on Lake County.
Seminole was one of the few places that completely rejected those nazis on the school board seats. So this doesn't track to me I mean history class is going to be dogshit at every school in Florida no matter the location. You could say that about pretty much any school located in the south.
Seminole Co is way more right wing than orange. It's also just suburban sprawl that sucks everywhere except a small part of Sanford. Delaney, Winter, or college park are all so much better options. Maitland is great too.
Schools are better, property values hold better, and less crime. It is a better long term investment save Windermere and Winter Park.
In Orange my kids attended Howard middle (magnet), Boone high (magnet) , and Edgewater high Edgewater is not good howard middle was fantastic
I love certain parts of downtown. I had a house off of Bumby for years. Family life feels more comfortable in the suburbs I guess.
some nice rolling hills that look so different from most of Florida but yeah the people suck . good place for distance running and bike training
For young kids (elementary age) windermere was nice. But for middle school and HS age kids I am happy we moved in town. My kids became less sheltered and mixed in with a much wider variety of kids esp at Howard middle. I’m a little older than the avg TMBer but since we will be empty nesters in 2.5y I would MUCH rather live in town closer to better bars and dining, much of it walkable from my house for half of the year. Also people are far more tolerant closer to drown in my experience
Highly recommend checking out Wild Fork up in Winter Park or in Dr Phillips. excellent quality at Costco prices. Outside skirt steak has been a winner every time.
I am practically a brand ambassador at this point. Best is if you catch them on one of their deals where if you spend like $100 you get free delivery all year. They only offer that deal once or twice a year. I’ve had a couple misses with salmon and something else but steaks and ribs I’ve gotten have all been great. Sea bass excellent. Desserts aren’t bad either. But the first time I went I thought I went overboard and didn’t actually spend that much money. Been a big fan ever since.
I live right down the street from one and haven’t gone. Three recs like this, may have to check it out this week.
Really hoping brightline to south Florida is good and reliable when it opens soon. Hate that I have to park at the airport and deal with that but I get how it connects things. Just wish it had its own separate facility so it’s totally detached from the airport experience. anyway. Fingers crossed. This would really open the door to more dolphins games for me.
If we had passed the sales tax increase it would have had the sunrail connection right in which would have been awesome.
