Pitching system. I just had my first draft last night and it was so hard. You will find some 5 star potential SPs but then you look and they have 2 pitches. So then you are likely drafting a reliever and its harder to pick them as high.

the one thing i wish they did was after the draft the published a player list that could be imported for the draft that year. im very interested in the pitching system, if you go pitch by pitch can you decide what pitch is thrown.

You know I never played an actual game. I pretty much only play big games and trying to rebuild the Pirates doesn't give me any.

If we get enough interest I'd be down. We can host it on our server here. I'll go read the beta online forum and see how it works.

    OOTP Online League Setup Guide

    Understanding Internet Security

Thousands of websites are hacked every day due to poor server security or application misconfiguration. It is common for OOTP Online leagues to have websites as well as FTP services available for its league members. OOTPX has configuration options to help increase your site's security, but other applications on your server could also put you at risk. Third party applications such as Forums, file trackers or other web applications that your league uses could put you at potential risk if ignored. Make sure that you apply application security patches and limit the ways that your server could be exposed to threats.

    Security vs Simplicity

OOTPX allows you to determine how secure or how simple that you want your configuration to be. You can choose to configure your online options to be similar to previous versions of OOTP where one FTP account handles all of the functions. This is quick and simple if you so choose, however it also increases your risk that you would be exposing your site to attack. For very minimal added security, you could easily keep just one directory on your server for the league file and all team exports with just one account to handle all uploads and downloads.

For the health of your league's site, it is suggested to take a few extra minutes to set up your online configuration to be more secure. The online configuration only has to be performed one time on the League Commissioner's computer. For added security, you minimally will want three different directories and two distinct FTP accounts configured with the following settings on your league server:

    Server Directories:

Team Uploads Directory - Where managers in your league will upload their exports for each sim.

League File Directory - Where the commissioner uploads the league file after each sim, and from which the individual managers download from. (Optionally if you choose to have managers download the league file via HTTP this folder should allow web access to it.)

Reports Directory - Where your league webpages are uploaded to. This folder should allow web access to it.

**Note: In the instructions below, the previous three directories (Team Uploads, League File and Reports) are referred to as target path or source path destinations. When entering the paths, you need to enter them relative to the FTP account root directory and not your server's root directory. Depending on how your accounts are configure, the relative path to the same directory might need to be entered differently for each account.

    Server FTP Accounts:

Commissioner account - This account needs to have FTP Read and Write access to all three directories listed above via FTP.

Manager Account - This account needs to have FTP write access only to the Team Uploads Directory. It does not need FTP access at all to the Reports Directory. (Optionally, this account can have FTP read-only access for the League File Directory if you choose the option for managers to download the league file via FTP)

    OOTPX Online Configuration

Using one Account/Directory for everything (not recommended)

As mentioned above, if you choose to keep it simple despite added risk and use just one directory and one account for everything, use that account for all places below that list either the Manager Account or the Commissioner account. Use that one directory for all places that list either the League File Directory or the Team Uploads Directory. You still likely will want a seperate directory for your web reports to go into.

    Recommended multiple account/directory configuration

    League File Upload Options:

Host & Port - Enter your FTP server's DNS name or IP address. The port in most cases can stay as the default port 21 for FTP.
Username & Password - Use your Commissioner FTP account here for the Username and password.
League File Name - For the league file name, this is used to determine what the league file is named that OOTP downloads for individual managers. You do not have to enter any file extensions in the name here. (ie: enter "yourleague" or "yourleague.lg" here, do not enter "yourleague.tar.gz")
Target Path on Server - Enter the League File Directory that you created above.

    League File Download Options:

"Use FTP to download league file" - By default, with this box unchecked, managers will download the league file via HTTP. This is the most secure option available and requires the least configuration. As of this writing, the performance impact from using HTTP appears to be minimal. If you wish to have your managers download the league file via FTP still, check this option.

Host & Port - This will only show up if you choose "Use FTP to download league file". If you use this option, enter your FTP server's DNS name or IP address. The port in most cases can stay as the default port 21 for FTP.
Username & Password - This will only show up if you choose "Use FTP to download league file". If you use this option, enter the Manager FTP account that you created above.
League File Name - Enter the same League File Name that you entered for the League File Upload Options. Entering a different name from the League File Upload Options will result in the users not being able to download the correct file.
League File URL - This is only needed if you use the default method of HTTP download for the league file. If you checked the option "Use FTP to download league file", this can remain blank as it is unused. If you are using the default HTTP method for downloads, enter the Web path to where the league file is located on your webserver. (ie: http://yoursite.com/leaguefiledirect...ilename.tar.gz
Source Path on Server - This will only show up if you choose "Use FTP to download league file". If you use this option, enter the same path that you chose for the Target Path on Server in the League File Upload Options. Note, since different accounts are used for the upload vs the download they could have different relative paths depending on your server configuration.

"Save FTP account data for league file download in league file" - This is only needed if you choose to use FTP downloads of the league file. Without this option being set, individual managers will be unable to download the league file via FTP.

    Reports Upload Options:

Host & Port - Enter your FTP server's DNS name or IP address. The port in most cases can stay as the default port 21 for FTP.
Username & Password - Use your Commissioner FTP account here for username and password.
Target Path on Server - Enter the directory that you created for Reports above.
Reports URL - Enter the web URL that is entered in a web browser to reach your server's website and view the reports. (ie: http://www.yoursite.com/leaguename/reports/html/ You can launch this page from within the game by going to the menu: Game -> Open League Website

    Team File Export Options:

"Use FTP for team file export" - By default this box is not selected. You can leave this off if your league either transfers the team exports via some out of OOTP method such as a forum, email or third party application. If you intend to use OOTP to allow team managers to upload their exports, you should check this box.

Host & Port - This is necessary only if you choose the "Use FTP for team file export" option. Enter your FTP server's DNS name or IP address. The port in most cases can stay as the default port 21 for FTP.
Username & Password - This is only necessary if you choose the "Use FTP for team file export" option. Use the Manager FTP account that you created above.
Target Path on Server - This is only necessary if you choose the "Use FTP for team file export" option. Use the Team Uploads Directory that you created above.

"Save FTP account data for team upload in league file" - This is only necessary if you choose the "Use FTP for team file export" option. Without this checked, individual managers will be unable to export their team file.

    Team File Import Options:

"Use FTP for team file import" - By default this box is not selected. That requires the commish to use some application outside of the game to download the individual team exports. If you wish to allow OOTP to import the FTP exports directly from the FTP server, check this option.

Host & Port - This is necessary only if you choose the "Use FTP for team file import" option. Enter your FTP server's DNS name or IP address. The port in most cases can stay as the default port 21 for FTP.
Username & Password - This is necessary only if you choose the "Use FTP for team file import" option. Enter the Commissioner FTP account that you created above.
Source Path on Server - This is necessary only if you choose the "Use FTP for team file import" option. Enter the path on the FTP server that the team exports are uploaded to. If you used the Team File export option "Use FTP for team file export", you can just enter the same relative path that you ented in the Target Path on Server field for Team File exports. Take note, that in some cases the relative paths for different accounts can be different depending on your server configuration.

    Email Options:

OOTP X allows you to send out email notifications directly from the game to inform managers of hot news stories as well as how their team performed. In order to take advantage of this option, you must have access to a SMTP server that can be used to send email. Many ISPs have a SMTP server that can be used for this, if you are unsure contact your ISP for more information on SMTP services available to you. Please take notice that as of this writing, SMTP servers that require SSL (or encrypted) SMTP communication is not supported by OOTP. This includes some sites such as GMAIL that requires SSL for SMTP and thus does not work with OOTPX.

Sender Name: Enter your (the commissioner's) name here. This is who the email will be from that is sent to the individual managers.
Sender Email Address: Enter your (the commissioner's) email address here. Please note that some ISPs require the sender email address to belong from their domain in order to use their SMTP server. Some ISP mailservers might reject your emails if you use Verizon's SMTP server as an example but enter your email address as [email protected]. This is not always the case however.
SMTP Server: The DNS name or IP address of the SMTP server you will use. If you do not know this information, contact your ISP for more help.
SMTP Port: Some SMTP Servers run on a different port for security reasons, but in most cases this can remain the default port 25. Contact your SMTP server administrator if you are unsure if this should be changed.
Email Account Username: If your SMTP server requires user authentication, enter your email account username here.
Email Account Password: If your SMTP server requires user authentication, enter your email account password here.

    Other OOTPX security changes

In addition to the above changes, take note that there are other changes to how OOTPX handles things to provide better security. None of the above FTP options, unless specifically stated, are kept in the league file upload any longer. If a second person is to take over the commissioner duties of the league, the will have to re-enter the same league online options correctly. Also, when you first open your league within OOTPX and are asked to login as a manager, any manager account with commissioner access is marked with an asterisk.
