I'm in the market for an Xbox One or PS4 in the near future. I would like to use it to stream from the internet (Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO GO, Watch ESPN), play Blurays and general video game purposes. What is the recommendation in general for someone that will play video games casually. I was reading some reviews and looks like at least early on specs and games people liked more for the PS4 but Xbox was sold as an all you need kind of media system. Not sure what they really entails or how useful it actually is. I enjoy pretty much any video games outside of racing and sports games. Want something good to chill out at night after the kid is in bed and zone out. TIA.
the large majority of answers in this thread will be for ps4. I'd have a hard time arguing against that, even as a fan of the xbox exclusive series (Halo and Gears). The ps4 does everything the xbox does slightly better and now is going to have the largest playerbase for multiplayer content since its winning the sales race.
Care to expand on that a bit? I've only the Xbone at this point in time but I was always under the assumption that what you said went in reverse especially since a lot of folk who weren't already on Psn plus didn't want to pay monthly/yearly online fee like one would on XBL.
the ps4 has slightly better hardware and you can see some slight differences in resolution and frame rate a la the difference seen between the superior 360 and ps3 last gen. psn is a whole other matter, especially on days like today when it's fucking down again.
I think youre also gonna get more third parties developing on ps4 and porting to xbone. Which is a big reason why 360>ps3
Ah. I don't get too deep into that whole bench mark tech spec shite, but I know the ps3 beat the Xbox360 in terms of using online apps such as Hulu and Netflix because at the time you never had to pay to use the Ps3's online functions so you bore no extra cost outside of just paying for said Streaming app. That was a turning point back then for alot of folk looking for a system to choose that also had multimedia functions and the like And while it's been years since I've used my ps3 for anything multiplayer, not having the whole party/group chat function along with having to buy dongles and shite to use the microphones really hampered the social aspect of playing in medium sized groups online and such compared to how easy it was on the 360. I take it isn't the same for the ps4 anymore, in terms of chatting with friends and forming parties and such? Duly noted. I've always been the type of bloke to own both consoles so I never miss out on exclusives and such but If I had to choose between the two, the shoddiness of the PSN store and how many times it's been affected by internal and external mischief would prompt me to just crack on with an Xbox, but that's me.
Word? Then that's a plus. To be honest I think any above average casual gamer should pay for membership on the psn since they offer you some really decent free games each month and some fair to great discounts too. Comes in handy if you're not the type to buy games full on when they are released. I was always of the notion that if you're factoring in the cost of Online Membership in regards to using streaming apps in an argument against or for either system, then you've a bigger problem on your hands other than that added cost, like not having a smartphone, telly with a usb for Chromecast devices or a computer for that matter. Cheers for the knowledge, eh?
The Interface on the Xbox one grew on me after I got familiar with it. It still pales to the 360 version which in my opinion was more precise in showing you what you needed to see as opposed to bombarding you with extra bullshite you couldn't care for but they've made some pretty decent tweaks with updates and such. Background downloads are back, You can send voice messages again and I haven't had a problem installing or buying any games at all this year. Things are on the upswing. I can only hope the same goes for the Psn Interface on the ps4 because if the 3's any indication as to the direction that they think they should go, it's another anti-clockwise muddle to find simple shit whilst praying it doesn't get sick and toss you off it. Will draw my own opinions on it when I own the console by the end of the year, though. Lookin' forward to it actually.
That's why I asked lazy Bum them following questions in regards to what the 4 is capable of now compared to the experience I had with the 3. My only experience with it was tryin' to get it work on holiday last year when it refused to fully install a mate's NBA 2k15 with some widespread error it was having around that time. I'm not badmouthing it, mind you, especially since I'm keen on getting one at the end of the year.
Probably won't be playing a lot of multiplayer. Will likely be playing Fallout type games grinding it out for a few hours a week to relax. If one is slightly more powerful than the other it won't make much a difference to me. Sounds like they're pretty even though?
Pretty even. Ps4 has a slight noticeable edge graphically and an easier interface to pickup on. If you're not sweating multiplayer and fallout 4 is the game that excites you, id say xbone based on the fact pc mods are already confirmed there
The differences between consoles really are exclusives, features, and hardware. Exclusives are all about what you prefer. No Man's Sky for ps4 looks about impressive a concept as I've ever seen. The xbone allows you to switch easily between TV and gaming, but in my opinion is more of a novelty. PS4 has better hardware and therefore better performance and graphics. The dual shock for the ps4 is drastically improved over previous generations and is more comparable to the Xbox controllers. Also hackers like to target Sony and therefore the playstation network so that can be a huge pain in the ass.
People mod Bethesda games like mad. They basically restructure the entire game to make it a completely new experience. Look up skyrim mods on YouTube. Fallout will be ridiculous
If you're interested in single player games get a PS4. Make sure you get The Last of Us bundle. Thank me later
