It really kills my viewing experience that I can't pause/rewind. I maintain that's the worst part of Peacock
Not having anything pre match is up there too. I tried to turn it on at 11:20 when it showed coverage had started like 20-30 minutes earlier but then it just tells me coverage will begin shortly
NBC still has the rights for one more year I believe but I don’t think that the premier league is happy how all of this has been handled. Growth in the US market is important. Having Manchester United v Liverpool behind a paywall is not good for the game. Add in the fact that NBC apparently didn’t tell the premier league that they were shutting down NBCSN and I don’t think they retain the rights unless they really outbid everyone. ESPN makes a lot of sense but Amazon wouldn’t shock me either. At least Amazon is available in a heck of a lot more homes than peacock.
sad reality in America where a company will shutter a sports cable network to stream men pretend wrestling each other for Incels and the like.
EPL supposedly will need a lot of convincing to move away from NBC. They love the production quality and treatment. But yea, I think this gives them something to consider. Real issue is that both Fox and ESPN have the college football on saturdays. CBS with Paramount could be in play now that they are all in on UCL.
could be a negotiation tactic but this article seems to imply that the premier league has not been happy with the high profile games on peacock and that they want to move on.
It’s a farce. We all know it. Putting the whole league behind a paywall makes it impossible for the game to gain new viewers and continue to grow the product in this country.
I think the situations are a bit different though. UEFA has no competition. Lets say the premier league fully goes behind a paywall and serie A and the bundesliga are on ESPN, do they not chip into the premier league popularity at some point? The premier league is clearly the top dog in the US but the popularity is small enough that it could change if the league gets moved to a steaming service that people aren’t buying for other reasons. Amazon prime is probably the only full time paywall that wouldn’t stunt growth. ESPN and CBS streaming at least gives the ability to put it on Bigger stations for big games. CBS could put the 1230 Saturday game on the main CBS leading into the SEC pregame show during football season. ESPN can show a lot of the morning games if they want to. It’s one thing to put extra games behind the paywall. To put big time games behind the paywall and then have auto auctions on instead is not what the league wants
Fair enough, No doubt the EPL is more concerned with audience size due to competition but I get the impression from the UK podcasts that the UEFA viewership is small and shrinking. At some point your broadcast rights are gonna stagnant. I mean there’s a reason it’s gone from ESPN to Fox to TNT to CBS stream subscription only.
Peacock needs to add a Samsung app. Discovery+ had it at launch. Peacock is the only semi-major streaming service without one. You either want business or don’t. they also need to add pause and fast forward for games. I don’t care that it’s on peacock as much as the fact that peacock isn’t widely available and it sucks. It’s been out for 8 months now. No excuse.
this plus Brexit plus COVID concerns plus FFP ramifications of relegation are the reasons we're being told as to why Fulham will most likely not get the scorer that gives us a chance of avoiding relegation
Possibly, but while either him or King could be an improvement, I doubt either of them is the difference maker we need. Terrible finishing has cost us 8-10 crucial points so far, and we really need a proven striker. Adam Armstrong from Blackburn was mentioned in some discussions but that's nothing but a pipe dream as Blackburn are obviously pushing hard for playoffs/promotion.
Anyone else bummed that nbcsn is shutting down? NBC started off with such great coverage and it's going to end miserably.
I think after Peacock this season that many people would’ve been rooting for them to lose the rights on the next go round
Eh. If it won’t work for NBC it’s not going to work on regular tv in general. We’ll be stuck streaming on xyz platform for the foreseeable future.
It's not that it "doesn't work" it's that Comcast has different priorities. Their entire objective now is to add subscribers. They know this is a bad long term idea but they don't care
ESPN+ would be amazing. That’s where everyone should hope it goes. 100% on stream with reliable streams rather than split on tv and stream
My prediction is pretty upsetting, you've been warned: Spoiler NBC and FOX each agree to pay about 60-65% of what they would for full rights to each get half rights. Games are split evenly between FS1 and Peacock (except things like Boxing Day and the final day) to fulfill their respective objectives. PL gets 20% more money so they don't care
This is the new name of CBS All Access, so if you’re doing that already for UCL/UEL this is actually less
If you are in this thread, you should be pulling for all soccer to go to one platform rather than multiple. I would welcome this as long as they do a better job than cbs is doing now. NBCs failure to keep the product on live cable tv is a glimpse into the future for the sport in this tv climate.
ESPN+ is the best case scenario for me. Imagining doing a multicast on my tv of the best matches from EPL, Bundesliga and Serie A
agreed but their coverage shows are just as bad as cbs. I care about being able to watch multiple games at the same time when it comes down to it.
just give me the ESPN+ functions. Multiview, pause/rewind, and if we are extra lucky on demand replays.
cbs is so hit or miss with when they archive stuff. wasnt able to watch live and tried to watch city at 6 but it wasnt archived. real/atalanta was tho. they finally added it at 7 better than peacock waiting until 9 or whatever
