didn't you just recently leave console gaming?
Ive been pc gaming for years, just never played fps on there. And i wouldnt say i left console gaming, i simply added another platform for which i could buy games. i had beem without a pc that could do anything for a couple years.
But none of that really matters. you dont have to play a game to know it looks like shit, especially in the age of youtube and twitch.
I'm finding that the main appeal of PC gaming since building my rig about a year ago has been strategy games.
I've spent a lot of time in Total War - Warhammer, Civ 5 (soon to be 6), and Cities: Skylines.
I still use my XB1 console for FPS and The Witcher 3, because I can lay on my couch. Will probably buy the new Mass: Effect on console for that reason.
after playing pc fps, i honestly can't imaging trying to aim with a controller without throwing it through my tv
I have some pretty bad arthritis. controllers are better for that.
that's fair, didn't consider that
Yeah, my PC is basically a Total War and Stellaris machine.
I do really prefer aiming with a mouse. its mostly in my hands so i dont have trouble there. but i have so many problems with the other lying flat on a keyboard trying to hit 15 keys at once. i would absolutely love some form of middle ground that had a stick for movement and mouse for aim.
Blasphemy. Arma: Cold War Assault is the new name for Operation: Flashpoint. O:F to me was one of the first true sandbox PC games. The freedom you enjoy in the game is crazy for a game released in 2001.
obviously PC gaming for the most part will keep you locked to your desk and monitor. PC's are trying still to make it to the couch an share it with the Consoles. Do any of you have your PC games running to your Living room or another spot where you can play the games in more comfort?
I haven't even built my PC yet but I'd like to have it's availability more available I guess. I own a RaspPi and there is a way you can apparently sling your STEAM through that. Any suggestions?
Nope, i have consoles for that
I've thought about trying this but i've never wanted to work that hard for it.
Next PC I make may go in my theater room next to the consoles, to see how it looks/plays in that environment on a big TV.
Will probably wait until Oculus gets some more must-buy games to build a VR capable system, then go that route, VR at the desk is a non-starter.
wait how didnt i know that you are a pc gamer.. whats your steam name? Bring back the good ole days
shit yeah, been on board since about a year ago. steam name is tres, and my avatar is the same as it is on here.
I have my PC set up to run through to my TV in the living room if I want it to.
It works ok, get a decent amount of screen flicker on some games.
Honestly the reason I don't do it more is because the games I play on PC usually work better on a keyboard and mouse, and laying on the couch is just not conducive to that. You can get comfortable, but every time you get up you have to spend 2 minutes repositioning all your shit. It was/is annoying.
What rank are you on csgo? Started at gn3 in December and just got up to mge yesterday.
Silver 3 :/
At my parents for another week while my apartment is made ready, then I'll be back on acceptable enough internet to play comp again. Ready to do some climbing as I was usually top fragging.
Been playing cs since 1999 and csgo since beta. If y'all wanna play sometime I'm down. I was supreme back before they changed everything and played competitively on LAN and online for a while. Not as good as I was back in the day, but I can hold my own.
The CS series is the best multiplayer FPS ever made. The replayability coupled with tactics and gameplay is just so so good. There is the netcoding and hit box issues, but they're more than made up for by gameplay.
At one point I had like 200gb of CS highlight videos.
Eolithic, Odolinski Chapter 2, fragordie, hardclan die hard, electronic warfare, frod clairvoyant, and spawn almighty were some of my favorite highlight vids.
glad we have a few cs people on here. i only started about a year ago, and i've been working on stuff like movement/aim/counterstrafing, but i fucking love playing.
hoping the hitbox issues are fixed in the next few patches, because they've at least acknowledged them. i'm primarily an awper so it would be nice to not fuck up an early pick because of the hitreg.
It used to be pure latency but now it's coding from movement such as jumping and valve trying to standardize across all their servers.
Yeah it's nearly impossible to distinguish between registry issues and intended inaccuracy.
Yep. Playing in 128tick vs 64tick is night and day, however, it's also night and day at magnifying the coding issues.
played on a 128 tick KZ server and it felt like a different game. those KZ/bhop/surf servers can be pretty fun, though i'm total shit at bhop and surf.
Anyone played The Long Dark? Sounds like a great survival simulator.
I haven't even played on a 128 tick server yet. I'm planning on trying ESEA in a month or two which is supposed to just be better match making with better servers and 128 tick. Seen most recommendations of getting to DMG or LE before trying it, so that's what I'm aiming for.
Yeah ESEA is the cancerous of the cancer. They're the worst kinds of people and will flame you into oblivion for missing a shot. I've had ESEA since 2003 and the player bases' attitudes haven't changed much at all. They're just younger.
Comminication, positioning, and gamesense gets you just as far as aiming. Also learn all the smokes and pop flashes for a map. Game changer.
Got a really nice PC this holiday season so I will be on Steam more often, my PS4 has been relegated to Netflix and Vue only. My Steam ID is aravious26
Yet it's probably the only place to keep improving from what I can tell. I'm definitely going to have to learn utility at some point, but teams are rarely organized enough in mm to make knowing smokes useful. I should probably get the flashes down better but at this point I just want to play mm as much as possible to get to 21 and get out of the non-prime hell hole. At rank 19 now so I should be able to get prime in the next couple days.
I also question if prime will hurt the growth of csgo, how many people would put up with that shit when they first start?
Also pistol rounds piss me off so much. I can go in a pistol server and destroy with headshots, and then in the pistol rounds of mm I generally just get one tapped instantly. I've basically devolved to baiting teammates. Bought some stattrak pistols though for motivation.
Ha. Pistol rounds are really random and it's all about not just spamming fire. Aim is more important and patience. Don't wide peek 3 guys. Let them run into your crosshairs.
I love prime. I've noticed a huge improvement in teammates when I solo queue.
Watching the pros play ESEA rank S matches is a ton of fun. Especially the cloud 9 guys.
Yeah I enjoy watching Shroud and Stewie a lot. Shroud was one of the early twitch streamers. He's always been so chill and a cool dude. He used to stream other different games too and was just as good. Rank S is a great way to see positioning and especially for listening to call outs and their team communication. Unless they're joking around or getting just blown out, the calls are crisp and short and people don't yell on the mic when they die.
Very interesting article. Gives credence to something we all already knew was true but didn't want to believe.
So you haven't watched when moe is on the team?
haha, and dazed/steel
Moe is always an exception to every rule. Dude could AWP in source though.
I hate them for holding HF3 hostage like they are.
I don't like it either, but according to the article, i don't think its a conscious thing to them.
They seem like a pretty strange studio in terms of development process, so to them i think its just concentration on other things, not a conscience decision to fuck over their loyal fans.
Clearly its not hurting them monetarily.
But if they wanted to make crazy bank, they'd have half life 3 ready to go, along with another left for dead. Man, I have over 1000 hours in each l4d game.
They make crazy bank continuously from steam and in game markets of their big games. Why invest in single player games at this point? L4D I could definitely see being built into another game with a big in game market though.
Gabe had an awesome AMA on reddit today. It was hilarious.
From the interview:
Hello Mr. Newell,
I asked other users what they wanted to hear most from you (other countries included),and I compiled this list. We are going to sticky them here to prevent spam. Please answer at your own discretion.
What is the status of Half Life 3/Half Life 2 Episode 3?
Is Valve still working on any fully-fledged single player games?
An unidentified anonymous source at Valve has said that Half Life 3 has been cancelled. Is that source legitimate?
How many people are now working on CS:GO? The community is frustrated at the lack of updates and the fact that most of the bugs haven't been fixed.
How long will it be until Valve adds CS:GO servers in other parts of the world (such as Russia)
The number 3 must not be said.
I personally believe all unidentified anonymous sources on the Internet.
20-30. Same as always.
We're adding servers all the time.
I just want half life 3 and 128 tick servers pls
