Bad looks from a couple days ago
That is scary as shit. That engineering firm is going out of business.
I was gonna make a Kiffin joke but then I realized that is FAU
Barnhart Crane and their insurance personnel are not having a great day.
Neither are all those people trapped under a bridge
Man. South Florida has had an awful month or so.
Tweet deleted already.
deleting tweets is so fucking stupid.
Thought I was gonna come in here and see an old bridge, didn't expect it to be a newly constructed one. Then again, it is FIU
Somebody check on Butch
In the end, the only thing that got suspended was the engineer’s license.
Got my MBA there. Crazy.
"Instant bridge? Not quite, but in a single morning Florida International University dropped a new elevated pedestrian span into place over the Tamiami Trail to provide students a safe route over the perilous roadway for the first time."
Nice humble brag about having an MBA
This is my nightmare.
You design bridges?
It’s like $50k for a mba from a non ranked state school. That’s certainly nothing to brag about.
However, every time I am under a bridge the thought of it collapsing or a car driving off of it and onto my car terrifies me.
Looks like several drivers had their lives unexpectedly abridged.
uh yeah, there are some dead people in those cars.
Holy shit how lucky is the person driving that black car?
I hope no one was in the back.
I got my undergrad degree at FIU. I grew up right around that area as well - just about 10 minutes further south.
I guess it was too early to call it a smashing success.
this shit is sad as fuck. cops called doctors and nurses from the medical and nursing schools for immediate assistance
Ts & Ps to the injured
I have a few friends that are structural engineers. Man this shit would give me anxiety the first days of a new project opening.
One of my friends designed the columns for the new Braves Stadium. He always jokes that if it ever collapsed he will disappear and never heard from again.
Jesus, it looks like the liability of this is on the construction company and who ever decided to open up traffic under the bridge when it did not have its cable-stay yet complete. There was nothing supporting it in the middle.
Jesus Christ that’s sad. Hope everyone scraps this “accelerated building” method after this. Seems like common sense that bridge installation is one of those things that shouldn’t be rushed.
Things to not brag about doing quickly: sex, building bridges, and eating Brooklyn bbq.
especially when a bridge is built over one of the city’s busiest streets
I mean, done correctly its very safe. Its just amazing to me that they thought that they could have it installed with no support from above or below.
It would be like opening the Golden Gate Bridge and deciding to add the suspension cables later.
I have to imagine it had temporary supports while they did the cable work? I mean, from first glance and knowing nothing about the project, there was a major fuck up somewhere. Projects like these usually have so much extra safety built in that it's hard to mess up.
If the firm I worked for fucked this up, i'd be so bitter right now.
bet you know a lot about burning bridges. dick.
We need a couple more of these on our campus. Not built by this firm though
Looking at the pictures there doesn't appear to be anything supporting it unlike when it was being transported.
I bet there's a lot of shared liability here.
Sounds like the answer here is clearly more deregulation.
Shouldn't have been driving there
