i finally have started using my bike after ordering it over thanksgiving. my original plan was to lose about 20 pounds before riding but i failed at that, in part because i still haven't been able to kick my achilles injury from this summer (despite a bunch of physical therapy sessions and seeing a foot doctor). anyways, i rode the beginner ride last night and the advanced beginner ride today. i found yesterday's ride fairly easy and today's ride somewhat challenging. i need to work on my endurance because once i get out of breath, i have trouble catching it again. should i stick with advanced beginner classes for a while until it's much easier or explore some of the other options, like shorter normal rides or low intensity rides? i was in the ~80th percentile for the original beginner ride and the ~50th percentile for the advanced one.
This is going to sound like a cop out answer but do what makes you feel best. I’d challenge myself the most I could but honestly that might not be the right thing for you. Continue with both beginner and advanced beginner rides and throw in some short “normal “ rides keeping in mind that the numbers they call out are only guidelines not set in stone. There are short 5-10 hiit, climb, tabata rides you can wet your toes with. Try those to see how you feel and remember to (as dumb as it sounds) to breathe and stay calm. Practice taking long breaths holding them and letting out through your mouth. Do that when you’re not out breath. Doing so will help you by getting you accustomed to do so when you lose your breath. Everything comes with time and practice. Don’t rush yourself.
I know it’d be hard with time zones , but we should start trying to do like a monthly TMB ride. Pick a class and all ride it live or on demand at the same time.
I never get to take live rides, but it worked with my schedule tonight. Even though I’m not a fan of Cody’s rides, I PRd his 45-minute pop ride with 656 kJ output. Getting closer and closer to you, Tony Wonder. I’ll tell you like I told Daniel Ocean’s mom: Bitch, I’m coming!
Did my first 20 minute beginner ride this morning. It felt great. I wish my gay man had selected music that's more of my style but I suppose once I get better I can be pickier about which classes I choose. I'm going to try to do 20 minutes on days my body feels up to it. I can already tell i'll be sore tomorrow.
So many choices of teachers for your maiden voyage... and you went with Cody. I kid. He's a fine teacher but surprised that a male would choose anyone but one of the many attractive female teachers. For your first 10-20 rides, I would recommend alternating teachers and try every teacher out twice to see who works/doesn't work for you. I remember my first Cody ride. I decided I would never quit a class once I started it. After the warm-up, I was informed that it was gonna be solely a Britney Spears ride. Yeah, that was a long ride.
I like the attractive women but Denis and Matt are two of the top three (Robin the baddest of all bitches)
Alex>>>> Matt and Dennis imo I have a thing for Emma she honestly the only one who I don’t forget their attractiveness. Everyone else I get into the class too much to even notice.
Matt is dog shit. He and Christine are the worst instructors at Peloton. Dennis is a little too crunchy for me. Robin, Alex and Jess King are the GOATs.
More like #PowerZonePussies. Don’t @ me about this either. Respect my decision to hate Wilpers. I’ll be granting no interviews on this topic as only God (and Robin Arzon) can judge me.
The only instructor I won’t ride with anymore is Christine. She just doesn’t have the type of energy I need and her playlists are generally shit.
i don't have anywhere near the experience all of you do on the bike but Emma is my fav so far. she literally stares into my soul and wills me to ride faster/further. big fan of her so far. and Robin and Hannah.
I think certain instructors are better for beginners and some really should be for experienced riders. For example, don't take any of Robin's non-beginner classes if you're first trying out the bike. She is a killer. Emma, Ally and Hannah are good for beginner rides. Same can be said for the men, I think Cody and Alex are good for beginners, Matt and Denis for more experienced riders. But if I looked at my personal bests, all of them are with the instructors who I'd consider the best or most difficult. For example, I don't think you'd ever hit a PR with Hannah - she is too nice and isn't as power focused.
So many things go into output and PRs. Instructor, time of day, energy level, your diet that day, type of class. I hate Cody’s classes, but my current 45-minute PR was in one of his recent pop classes.
Pretty guilty, mine is in the living room facing a bay window that looks over the Rocky Mountains. I do lose some points for having it in the corner.
I used to do mellower rides with her due to music I prefer, but she won't shut up about her racing exploits. Can't take anymore.
I wish Jennifer Jacobs’ classes were as great as her tits. I just took a punk rock ride with her, and I’m 90% sure she hadn’t heard a single song played before.
My bike is in the corner of my office overlooking my desk and my neighbor’s roof. Pretty smug about it.
I always thought they curated their own playlists, but there’s no way with some of hers. The others all seem pretty natural.
Did not ride last night because my legs were unusually sore. Thought it was from a hard day of work maybe. Woke up today sick as a dog. Damnit...
Ally love 88 cadence standing up.... Am I just incredibly fat or is this kind of hard to do when you're a large human being?
its pretty difficult especially when starting out. took me a solid month to get my legs under me out of the saddle. Though to be fair i still had some strength difference in my legs post knee surgery
sorry to bump old posts but i'm going through the thread to try and learn more it's not a perfect solution because you'd still have to pay attention to the screen they enabled closed captioning right around when y'all posted this. so you can turn the volume down/off, turn the tv or your own music on, and just read the instructions if you'd prefer that.
