Did Alex's 30 minute hip hop ride yesterday. It felt half-assed on his part. The music quality was below average and overall the energy was just low. But, I did like the longer intervals and "jogs" because those are different than what I am accustom to doing which is HIIT etc. I'm going to do Jess's 10 minute climb ride today to reward myself.
To be fair to all the instructors, the whole music licensing issue has created some challenges. I think some instructors are only as good as their music choices and Alex is probably one.
Have enjoyed updating profile pic to an animated gif. It looks like a plain image on bike, but on the web and mobile apps it is animated.
I think the music thing is a stupid thing to complain about but do find myself thinking “meh” when scrolling through the playlists for On Demand rides. So, I get it.
It's just a personal thing for me. I have a better time in classes where the music is great. I totally crushed my PR in Robin's 20 minute 80s ride a few weeks ago. I understand the instructors have no control over the music litigation but I am annoyed as a consumer.
I hear and agree with you. I feel like I see a lot of 80s classes. That’s not my cup of tea, but there’s quite a few of those, no?
There are, and even the Jen classic rock rides are well represented with guns n roses more often than not.
I don't understand it. If they're paying for Spotify, how are they required to pay additional licensing fees? I'd get it if they were making money off of their music directly, but they aren't. Do places like Soul Cycle or public gyms have to pay to play music? Or is this just a greedy ploy to get more money by the lawyers and artists?
Also, set PR's on back to back nights for a 45m and 30m ride. Wasn't shooting for one on either, until I was about halfway in and realized I was definitely in shouting distance. Up to 673 on the 45m ride, which my goal was to hit 700 by my birthday in July. Should be attainable if I don't hit a wall.
It’s my understanding it’s the streaming of content that muddies the licensing. Your local gym isn’t doing that.
Agreed the music is total trash. Seems like there license is all for old music so there are a ton of 90s rides and old jams. Also seeing a bunch of remixes and covers of songs. Pretty pathetic and it 100% has impacted my experience.
Ok, so what kind of rates are we talking? Do they negotiate a flat fee for each artist/label, or is it a by song type thing? Also, what the fuck is taking so long? Peloton makes a fucking killing off of us, get this shit done and stop pissing of your customers. Although we all know that once resolved the monthly fee is going up.
It's not a flat fee which is the problem. The licensing companies are probably asking for the moon and Peloton is having to work it down. It'll probably take a while.
Totally agree. Playlists have been terrible and I've had to really scroll through searching for one I can tolerate. It's incredibly disappointing that a company that aims for such a high level of product(and charges accordingly) is dragging through this.
I also feel like it’s impacted the instructors. Think they have a hard time not laughing at some of the shitty remixes from mid 90s they are playing.
This story goes into more detail about the licensing and touches on a lot of the frustration we’re all feeling. https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/24/...-fitness-studios-gym-on-demand-media-strategy
Noticed the feed lagging tonight. First time that's ever happened. Both for live and a prerecordedlive post ride stretch.
Playlists suck now, though I'm pretty oblivious most the time. Gagged a big when I joined a ride with Bieber on the playlist yesterday or day before, and then never noticed the song when it played. Saw this in a Verge article about it - https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/24/...-fitness-studios-gym-on-demand-media-strategy (article is pretty useless though).
I know this isn’t the bowflex thread...but do any of you have a max Trainer? Just looking for a little feedback before/if I buy one.
haha was that a parody ride or something? thats embarrassing. the 90s/00s hip hop/pop stuff still does me well but the playlists for the new tracks/current rides look bad, yes.
Robin's ride featured comments about how long it's been since she heard these songs. Felt like a tour de force of copyright expired, public domain old hip hop. She is a true pro though, didn't seem to bother her at all. More weird than bothersome to me at this point though.
i just did robin's 30 minute hamilton ride (officially called "best of broadway '16 ride") i set my 30 min pr by 50 kj and finished right in the 10th percentile of the class (officially 11th percentile), which is pretty damn good for me. i think that's easily my best of a class this size/age: over 12k riders have taken it. the ride is over three years old now (published february 2016) and it's hilarious how shoddy the production was back then. there's no warmup, no cooldown, the class finishes late based on the schedule, etc. half the audio is hearing robin exhale. it's really just not refined at all - the last five minutes are "freestyle" to do whatever we want to close strong. pretty hilarious. but it's awesome because robin is dope and hamilton is great. i wonder if i should be browsing these older rides because i'd do better with a less refined structure.
texasraider, Tony Wonder or any of our newer riders, any interest in joining me for another 30 day ride challlenge?
I’m starting tomorrow since I like starting on Monday, but feel free to start on Wednesday with the first of the month. Same rules as last time. At least one 30-minute ride each day for 30 straight days.
Going to my in-laws next weekend. I’ll get a guess pass to their gym and use the bikes there with the app.
I did this at my in-laws over Easter. Couple questions: How does that accurately track for purposes of your comp? Does the heart rate monitor pair with the phone app?
Funny you should say that. I’m going to Europe for two weeks on May 15 so I guess I’m out. But I’ll go at it until then.
I’m not usually an app rider (did the same thing at their gym over Thanksgiving). But I don’t think all riders get any of the metrics bike owners do. It’s supposed to be the value-add and why the service is more as a bike owner. The bikes at their gym are garbage...they’re the usual Schwinn spin bikes with no data at all. Can’t even see how fast you’re going.
Right. I just did whatever shitty 30 minute hill program their bike had. Was curious if you could somehow integrate with app. It actually works great for their jogging classes on pretty much any decent treadmill. Just haven't tried pairing with heart monitor yet.
If you are doing everything via app, like on vacation or whatever, can you link the heart rate monitor to your iPhone?
Looks like we are in luck. https://blog.onepeloton.com/new-heart-rate-zone-training-now-available-app/
It's a no for me. I have been taking it easy because my ankle has been really tight day after rides. So I am trying not to push it. I have also been working more on strength training during that time. I am probably going to start alternating days of riding and lifting more. I think I was pushing it to hard on the bike, need to be smarter.
