Fuck. I’m way too tempted to buy one of these. Hard to find the motivation and availability to exercise with a five month old.
Day 2 - 5 min core strength w/ Emma (second day of the crush your core program) - 10 min bodyweight strength w/ Marty something (first time with him... dude is beautiful) - 45 min pop ride with Cody I am so weak.
I have a 2 year old, a 1 year old, and my wife is expecting our 3rd in a few months. You’re going to find yourself wanting to do it for them but also, you’re going to be so strapped for time soon enough that there is no better way to get an intense workout in than this.
I've got a 5 year old, 2 year old and 4 month old and this is the only thing right now keeping my health and sanity. I ride on the low end of the mileage here, 20min or 30 min rides as I have time but it makes a huge difference.
Yeah I understand people saying it is a lot of money, but both my wife and I use it a lot. We have had the bike for about 17 months, and have over 500 rides between the two of us. We paid the bike off in a year and now just have a $40 subscription for 2 people per month. I have two kids (5 & 3) and we both work. I have 6:30 - 8:00pm window I can work out, having the connivence of doing it at home on a flexible schedule is well worth it for me.
Marketing person here. What's funny to me about the Peloton ad (as a loyal Peloton person) is that you can easily see all of the marketing research that went into the key messaging points of the ad. 1- a lot people ask for bikes as gifts. 2- a lot of people credit Peloton with life-changing behavior (similar to any fitness product people stick with...it's worth noting something like 99% of users are retained) 3- a lot of Peloton owners are families with busy lifestyles and 4- her in-house setup is a tad more modest than last year's ad campaign showing bikes in basically $10million homes. But the creative execution was bad and you can see it in the response. They lack a lot of self-awareness too. There's a way to give the message that the gift was something the wife probably asked for. I don't know if any of us were nervous for our first ride like we were about to walk on stage to give a keynote speech to way the actress does. The compilation video at the end of the ad? I mean who does that shit? And while her setup was more modest it probably wasn't modest enough. So the messaging was actually probably well researched but the creative concept was a bad and should feel bad.
You’re spot on. Like I said my experience with the bike was extremely similar to the woman in the ad,
I agree with all this. I will add that when you look at Facebook Group you do see a lot of these stories and pictures on it all the time. So the idea of relating those stories into a commercial was probably a good one, the execution was just off. I think someone mentioned it previously, but a commercial with real testimonials would be a lot more powerful. That being said, no bad press and with the jokes comes a lot of discussion about the bike. The best selling source of the bike is referrals from current owners.... Speaking of referral... if you holiday shoppers are going to order the bike, get a referral from someone on here. It is a win win for both parties.
Exactly. People lose their f'n minds when the truck arrives as a surprise and you see those videos all of the time. But I think they could have looked at that content in the FB group and just based it off that - if not actually used that content directly. But those stories are the same ones they are trying to tell in the ad but just didn't get it across well.
And the store is basically all 50% off right now. I actually had a referral this week and got 3 things for the $100 which is a lot for the brands they sell (Lululemon and whatnot)
After months of consideration, I finally bought one using the Black Friday special. It arrives Monday and I'm itching to get started. We did a deal where they only threw in one pair of shoes and that was for the wife. Any shoe recs?
i wish peloton would actively avoid its fb group because 1. fb is a nightmare and 2. the people on the fb group seem generally strange, on the whole the ad isn't as bad as its reputation makes it out to be. it's just viral so everyone wants to take a shot. it's not a great ad but "WORST AD OF ALL TIME" or whatever? gtfo
I bought Gavin shoes on Amazon for like $65 (plus a little more for the cleats) and they have been fine. I'm not one to splurge on indoor cycling shoes and not sure it makes any difference as long as you can clip in.
If you get the bike it’s unlimited profiles so everyone can use it and you get access to the digital app. It is 38 a month if you simply do the digital price is going down to like 13 a month but that only gets you 3 profiles.
Day 3: 30 minute Alex 2000s ride. Good playlist and some good climb and interval efforts if anyone is interested. I bookmarked for future.
I’ve been having some serious leg fatigue after I took my days off. Even had a few Charlie horse cramps/spasms that hurt like a motherfucker. So my day 3 was a 20 minute yoga session with Aditi. But that stretched me out so good that I took this: And got a new PR with a 470. Couldn’t help but notice that tiny little 382 of yours, Tony Wonder.
Day 4 5 min core with Ally love. Damn thing was all planks. Fuck me. 45 min arms and shoulders bootcamp with Jess Sims. Of course she adds in more core. Wasn't all that great for biceps but still a good overall workout.
Day 3, 5 hours in an airport and on a plane, with 12 hours of work in between. Plane made sickness regress. We will count my sympathy bourbon curls tonight as my workout as they lull me to sleep.
Smashed my 30 minute record tonight by 81 kj. Only took me 45 min to do that. Fucking radiation is just one slow, steady decline. Holding an average output that is 80% of my former output absolutely wrecks me. Next week is my 100th consecutive week riding, which is pretty fun.
wife balked a bit at the price but seemed intersted. may make a move on this. need to see what my bonus will be.
the bike is paid for within a year if you pay for a gym or go to spin or other workout classes with any frequency. and now is the best time to buy because they only do the sale once/year with the free accessories. i don't have kids like many others itt but there's no better purchase, honestly.
Day 3 - 10 min glutes/legs w/ Marty - 10 min arms/shoulders w/ Marty - 30 min low impact ride w/ Olivia (but it's Olivia so it's not really low impact... i was riding 50 resistance at 90-100) Too exhausted to do Emma's core strength today. Also have the ketoruns (started Monday) and struggling adjusting to the diet + hardcore intermittent fasting (one meal a day). I did this all summer and was in exceptional shape so I just need to give my body time to adjust again.
Day 4 - 10 min core strength w/ Emma (third day of the crush your core program) - 20 min pop ride w/ Robin - 10 min cooldown ride w/ Leanna or whatever (the UK girl... generally can't stand her but it's a cooldown) it's still early here but i'm almost certain i'm done for the day. i feel awful physically and i think i might break my diet. i already have eaten a bunch of pecan nuts at ~3 pm. this is a tough adjustment.
Day 5 60 min Jess Smith full body bootcamp She kicks your ass because there are virtually no breaks but I really don't like the lifts she chooses. Matty and Oliver strength workouts kick the most ass.
Do you own the thread? How do you do the boot camp? Day 5: meditation with Aditi and 20 min run with Oliver. I’ll probably do recovery yoga and meditation tomorrow. I am running a “15k” on Saturday. It’s not actually a 15k I am doing a 5k at 730 and a 10k right afterwards at 830 same event just doing both runs.
I own the bike. Have the app as well. For bootcamps I go to my gym. It doesn't have the tread but it has nice treadmills with the wheels to adjust speed and slope. I just put my phone in the holder and use earbuds. So far it's been great. Fortunately, I go to a gym that isn't huge and commercial so I can set up my mat and weights and go back and forth without issue.
I’ve been thinking of doing them (boot camps) but subbing out the thread with the bike. I just put a bootcamp on the iPad ride when it tells me to run and lift when appropriate. Do you think that’s doable?
Just bought my wife one for Christmas. Should be here in a week. Looking forward to using it myself days I work from home.
Only problem would likely be the shoes. Some classes have the run/ride all at once up front and then move to weights. For those you'd be fine. You can also pause the app if need be to transition. The one I did today had three runs and three weight sessions that alternated. That one would be a major pain in the ass with bike shoes and clipping in.
Day 4 done with Cody’s recent 60 minute groove ride. New PR with 915, finished 28th out of 5257 riders. If anyone wants their ass kicked, take this one. I forgot how much I like Cody’s rides because all the jumps and figure eights remind me of my old spin studio.
lol she’s wanted one for a few months once three of her friends got them. She thought the outrage to the commercial was typical internet outrage and over blown.
